How StuGo’s Reaction Reveals A BIGGER Problem

At this point this is a cycle with the animation community a new original cartoon comes out, nobody talks about it, it gets cancelled, everyone complains, a new revival comes out everyone talks about it and everyone forgets about the original cartoon being cancelled rinse and repeat. It’s really astounding how animation fans have refused to change even after time and time again when they say how much they care about original animation but then talk about the new Adventure Time show, or a potential Steven Universe or Gravity Falls revival, it reeks of hypocrisy. A big reason why these original cartoons fail is because people don’t talk about them and don’t get the viewership needed to continue that’s why there are so many revivals cause companies know they will get the viewership, wether people like it or not Hollywood is a business and if something is not making money or at worst is making them lose money they are going to can it. So if you want StuGo to succeed make videos about it, tell friends or family members to watch it, support the show officially on Disney+ show Disney there’s an audience for these shows. But that’s just wishful thinking I bet you when the Phineas and Ferb revival comes out this year everyone will be talking about that and forget about StuGo until it gets cancelled.

Like CN released Invincible Fight Girl with a distinct art style and good fight choreography, but no one talks about that show. Ironically enough, I hear more people complaining about this show's art style and how wanting something different than talking a new show that is genuinely distinct. Then there's the ever great Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur that is spectacular in every way, but I don't see many people talking about this show despite being the very show everyone yearned for. Then there's HITMONKEY which is an adult action cartoon akin to Primal but have the dialogue of Archer. It's also a pretty good show with a distinct art style, but no one talks about it despite many wishing for more adult cartoons with pleasant art style and not being a sitcom. Despite what everyone complained about, a new art style won't save a show because no one is overall supporting said show both the company and the community.

Dude, thank you for that ending. Seriously, thank you. I've checked out just about every cartoon you showed at the end when they premiered. I am so sick of people complaining about these companies cancelling shows like this, yet in the same breathe depriving themselves of good cartoons just because they don't meet the standards of someone whose been embracing nothing but story driven shows. This doesn't go for everyone, obviously there are tons of cartoon fans who do still check out these shows, but there are too many people out there who complain about this sort of thing yet don't take the time to give these smaller shows a fair chance. If you wanna complain about then go ahead, I encourage you to speak out about it. But don't act like these companies don't make these shows if you aren't even gonna attempt to watch them. If you haven't even done that, then your stance on the subject is invalid and not worth hearing out.

If you actually watch the show and support it then there's no reason to criticize you. It's just those who complain about this sort of deal and act like the company hasn't put out any new cartoons period. Sometimes, it's on the people who complain about this sort of deal and they need to hear that. If you wanna complain about how bad the industry is now and how every show gets cancelled right away, you better be ready to practice what you preach and actually watch these cartoons. Actually look at that show and compare it to this one maybe. I don't understand what happened with TMNT, but I can tell you that show has actual shading and style, and doesn't look like every corporate animation style ever. It seems like this show is actually entertaining, but just... why this style? It's SO bland. As he brought up Owl House and Gravity Falls, I paid close attention to the clips and compared the styles... while they're a bit flat with shading as well, they feel like they actually *have* something where this show just... doesn't. Some detail, some style is really important to make a show actually stand out or just... look appealing at all! People want to see things that look cool, stylish, pretty. I don't know why this lesson is so hard to learn, this concept so hard to understand. I hope western animation actually does learn it soon.

Sorry... I gave Rise of the TMNT a chance, like I did with TMNT 2012 with the whole CGI look. I fall in love with TMNT 2012 immediately from the first episode. RotTMNT I watched the first couple of episodes... and I hated it. The Turtles were too similar in personality at times and they were so different from the original source material they might as well as been a different series with Turtle characters. Animation was amazing, but I just DID. NOT. LOVE. IT. I hated it. What they did to Master Splinter, the tone, how the Turtles look, the way the story presented itself. I just couldn't. See, I did mind doing something a little different but if you deviate too much from the source material I'm not going to get it the time of day. Even the classic 80/90's Turtles cartoon, while goofy, still had the turtles have distinct personalities and wasn't overly quirky. Even if the story plots revealing why the characters are the way they are explained this, Rise was just not my Turtles. Sorry for the fans for that loved it, but not for me. And I LIKE Next Mutation despite how often that's regarded.

StuGo is really good and it's pretty funny. The premise even sounds funny. A mad scientist tricks a bunch of children to come to her island full of mutants. It's really a scam so that she can use them for experiments and to do her bidding. It's Giligans Island meets Rick and Morty.

I watched the pilot for this show back when it was still in rough form. I can't remember everything, but I remember Larry, Pliny and Sara. Also, I'm pretty sure I remember Pliny's name originally being Merian, but that might just be false memory. I was one of the kids who technically greenlit the show, but I told them I wouldn't personally watch it. Wow the nostalgia. My mom called me from my room and told me to sit and watch the pilot, then tell the survey my feedback. Ok let’s start. I never really post two comments in a video but I really want to talk about this. Adventure time didn’t get a story until the second or third season, and TAWOG is still working on its story. And both of these shows came out great. I hope people talk about StuGo. I really do. I feel like there’s so much mystery to it. I don’t think the cast is that big and it’s similiar in size to gravity falls in my option. I feel like this show is different. Most shows are “kids and family in a town” like Kiff and primos, but this show is different. I immediately got a Steven universe vibe when I first saw this video. People don’t pay attention to shows that could actually work and it’s super frustrating. I could see this being “the gravity falls of the 2020’s” if they invest in this enough. I see the love in cartoons back in the 2000s in this show. The characters are great, the premise is awesome, I just hope Disney and the animation community see the light like I do. All we can do is wait and see.

It doesn't matter how good the writing is, if it looks like garbage, it'll be ignored. In short, studios should pick better art styles. And as far as "bashing" goes, that's always been a thing, even when Spongebob came out in the 90s. The difference is, Spongebob offered something new in terms of humor (zany, random, rapid-fire jokes) and art(paintings, highly-detailed close-ups, digital inking, cgi, and live action). It stood out.

I think the art style of STUGO looks pretty unique next to the other cartoons. It doesn't have the "Cal Arts Style" Every generation is grumpy about the new generation and says "my shows were better." Its better to give stuff a chance before judging it.

why are people so hateful nowadays??? I'm not big into animation, but from what I see, a lot of people give almost no opportunity to new ideas, yet they want them; like- I get, you might not like the art style (personally I don't find it interesting) but that doesn't mean you should trash it! I think StuGo could be one of those chill shows that as the episodes go on it may get more lore, but nothing too crazy, perhaps a few emotional moments here and there, it looks adorable.

Whoa... I didn't even know this show came out and I'm definitely giving it a watch, I love everything I'm seeing! I want to give as many new cartoons that cross my path a chance, especially to help get more eyes on them. Another I've been seeing not get much discussion is Max and the Midknights and the animation is absolutely STUNNING. I really don't want such hard work to get buried, so I've also been reading the books the show is based on.

Honestly, it might not even necessarily interest me, but I do think "Calarts style" arguments dumb. It's like if you wanted to homogenize anime styling by Moe when Moe isn't all anime. (The Seinen genre of anime is peak imo) The show looks fine imo and I hope people enjoy it and it lasts 3 seasons.

Yes, canceling a series after a season or two can be really annoying bc it never gets finished. We need to give things more of a chance and not say things aren’t as good as they were in our day just because of nostalgia bias. Some new series are actually pretty good if watched without a preconceived notion and if given the chance. Every series has its good parts and bad parts. This is something I can personally learn from too.

You guys need to understand that the people bashing on these cartoons are *not* the same people complaining that there are absolutely no new shows. We don't just want new cartoons; we want new, *good* cartoons. If the art style itself isn't good enough to hook people in, then that's the fault of the cartoon, not the audience. This wouldn't be an issue if cartoons these days weren't so artistically derivative of each other. (P.S. What's the point in having a simple art style if the cartoon itself isn't cartoony?)

I watched 2 episodes of StuGo qnd I don't mind it. Admittedly the art style is... exhausting? In that it looks like too many recent shows I've seen. I just wish shows were more unique to their designs. I mean it'd be so easy to do a crossover from any DTVA show in the past decade and it would be difficult to tell that they're from different shows. In contrast, look at the infamous Lilo & Stitch crossovers from the 2000s. They all look and feel so different to the point that it looks wrong when they're on the same screen together. So with that said, I entirely understand the criticism of the look of StuGo. I'll still watch it just because I love original animated shows but artistic variety would be nice.

I agree with your arguments at the end of the video people needs to give more attention to original ideas instead of the same shows or shows that are similar to the popular shows I like the popular cartoons but see a big part of the comunity talking about the same things over and over again is kinda boring for me people needs to get out of the comfort zone even a little bit But that's just my opinion I haven't seen the series yet but I'll give it a chance when I can, I won't know if I like it or not until I see it.

My thoughts of what I think not just on the video but also on the new original shows. Mainly the reason I feel these shows aren't becoming as popular for example Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, or The Owl House. Is because some Shows have some characters that lack investment and a hook. What gets so many people to watch Adventure Time is how so many people identify with Finn at an early age. Acting like a kid living in a fantasy power world. A lot of people can identify with that, and get people hooked to commit to the show in the long run. A struggle between the reality and the fantasy. From what I saw in your video of Stugo the main focus characters seem to have a lack of investment and a hook. For example, Pliny as you said the leader type looking for validation ( Which is not a bad Character) But what gets me invested in this character? That I will stick with them in the long run. (the show just started so there could be more chance of investment) my point is that this character might interest some people but not everyone. (again not a bad thing) the thing is people want characters that speak to them and resonate with them. Whether it is a certain goal or a struggle. To warp up what new shows need are characters that will resonate with them and everyone or the majority to get people to talk more about it and make it popular. ( I will also state that sometimes new shows do these things and still get canceled. The problem is popular trends and the environment are always changing. Which can sometimes make it hard for newer stuff to get out there) But this just my thoughts please be kind.

I watched the first episode of this show on the Disney Channel KZbin channel and I thought it was very mid, but I'll give more of this show a chance someday. It's just that I don't have Disney+ so I am forced to pirate it, but I don't have time to watch the show now since I am busy and I am binge-watching a lot of shows even into 2026 or 2027 I will still be binging other shows because there is a lot of shows better. I will probably continue watching this show later this year or in 2026 but I won't have time to watch the whole series around 2027 or 2028. I heard that Disney Channel will be making more cartoons in the future other than this, so it gives a lot of potential in terms of the channel's quality of cartoons. Also StuGo kinda reminds me of Total Drama Island. Edit: oh never mind the sneak peek of the show was actually the second episode why wasn't Disney Channel KZbin specify this, they literally confused me. Why upload the second episode, they should have uploaded the first episode instead. Sometimes they just bore me out. Like we need another intriguing story-driven show from Disney Channel. It's been 5 years since the last one, and that show ended almost 2 years ago, so now is the time for them to make a new story-driven cartoon.

Humans are one of the easiest creatures to animate. This can lead to lazy art styles. If something is robotic, or animalistic, or anthro, you have to put extra time and care not only into their appearance, but their personality, to make them memorable. How many video games have you seen with covers that boil down to: "Grissly organic human guy with gun" by now?
