For #5, being 20 lbs underweight is more dangerous than being 20 overweight. Although I've never been overweight, I can tell you that being underweight has caused many health concerns.
@roxannemoser5 күн бұрын
I've had exponentially more health problems since being overweight than when I was under weight.
@SeauxNOLALady4 күн бұрын
I’m someone who’s had to watch my weight and I gain it quite easily. My mother however has the opposite problem. She is very tall and has always been slim, but not emaciated looking. She was picked on for her height and thin frame most of her life. She told me that being called skinny is just as bad as being called fat to her. She’s a total OG though and I remember she made some random lady look like a fool when I was a kid. She’s a nurse and I was with her at work. We were in the elevator and this lady looked her up and down and blurted out “Oh my god you’re SO skinny!” People don’t realize that commenting on a stranger’s weight is never appropriate and rude. Especially when they are clearly not giving you a compliment and saying it with obvious condescension. My mom didn’t miss a beat though. She looked down at that lady and said “The thing about weight is that it’s not permanent but there isn’t much you can do to fix ugly.” And the doors open and she walked away with her head high like a total boss. My mom’s wit is above reproach. Anyway, I got your point. Sometimes people struggle to gain weight or maintain a healthy weight due to multiple reasons and people think being overweight is unacceptable but it’s somehow a blessing to be underweight for the sake of social norms. Nobody should comment on anyone’s weight period. You don’t know that person’s struggles or medical conditions or any other factor that affects their weight. So keep your mouth shut and mind your own business.

I have done 25yrs of surgery and can attest to most of these. You’d be pretty amazed at what goes on “behind the scenes”
@lennydetloff10319 күн бұрын
I have 35+ hospital years and you're correct. There's so many mistakes that are hidden and I'm sure you know, nobody dies in surgery, LMAO 😅
@GothyMorm9 күн бұрын
I’m going to ask a sincere question - but please know I am not specifically attacking you as I value your input and thank you for saving lives through the means of surgery. Why are doctors intentionally withholding important and even dangerous information, such as the use of SSRIs/other anti-depressants that can cause diabetes and other serious life-long effects from people? Isn’t the intent to do no harm?
@jasonvegas35939 күн бұрын
@ no idea. That has zero to do with surgery. Probably has something to do with weight gain. People don’t exercise. We are lazy people in this country who eat horribly
@jasonvegas35939 күн бұрын
@ 😂 I will say in 25yrs I’ve only had 3 people die on me unexpectedly. Out of tens of thousands. Most people who are sick enough to pass away on the table, don’t get cleared for surgery.

I developed diabetes in my mid/late 50's. (I'm 58 so this is recent). I have a family history of diabetes on my mother's side of my family. There's also a family history, and I am one, of depression. I was prescribed SSRIs on and off for years. When I talked to my endocrinologist he told me to stop beating up on myself that my developing diabetes was invadable because of 1) my family history & 2) my personal history of taking SSRIs. I was completely shocked when he told me this. I had no idea. It's more likely a patient will develop diabetes not solely because of taking SSRIs but that if there's also a family history of diabetes as well. My family history is what caused my taking SSRIs that then lead to my diabetes. Sucks, this "could" have potentially been avoided had doctors ASKED if there was a family history of diabetes AND depression. This could have been mitigated had I also been prescribed Metformin ALONG with the Antidepressants.

8:42 The correlation between those taking antidepressants and type two diabetes is not a causal relationship. The medication is not directly related to the increased rate of diabetes. It may be related to the fact that depression can lead to weight gain which in turn can cause diabetes. Causation and correlation are not the same thing! You need to clarify that. This could frighten people who need antidepressants and make them hesitant to take medication that they need for fear of becoming diabetic…

There are any number of odd things in both science and medicine.The fact that Billions of people are obese from the foods they choose to eat while 7 million around the world don't have enough food. I wish the world could all get along. I am happy splitting my American restaurant with my sister, so no food goes to waste. If only the food I didn't eat could be given to someone hungry. It's shameful to see the waste of food in our country. But this is only one area of inequality. I had gastric bypass and eventually had about 20 lbs of shrunken fat removed. Where does all that healthy skin go, with its layers of fat intact? Right into a crematorium to become ash. I asked my surgeon whether he was donating all the skin he removed to hospitals with burn units. He said he'd never even thought about that.

i’ve discussed this with my therapist many many times. several therapists as a matter of fact. based on what they’ve heard from me, his brother, my family, his fathers family who had limited contact with him and even a few school friends, and looked back over his facebook posts before the problems started, i have very little to do with the issue. i’m not perfect by any means. but save your judgement until you go through it.
@MayAndCats9 күн бұрын
@nostalgiaprincess Listen, I really don't care much about your life story, but as someone who has been in therapy for a long time, I can sure as hell say that no therapist would ever be okay and agree with you saying that you literally regret having your child. I’ll say this about obesity and hunger….healthy food is more expensive in the US at least and junk like Ramen, Pizza, fries, etc is cheaper and/or goes further than the healthy food. I’ve seen people who are obese and poor, and healthy and rich. It’s crazy how that works. I spent many years only able to eat junk because of money issues.

Try 5 HTP (5, hydroxy tryptophan)...the immediate precursor to serotonin... possibly the shorter HTT gene is having bad effect on the ability to convert...may also answer one previous question you asked....5HTP and many other OTC are brain neurotransmitter precursors or enablers (pyridoxine enables good guys to get past brain blood barrier...B-6) But all of these are cheap and available anywhere. I've taken 5HTP since it came on the market in the '80's... interesting big pharma story on this...too much for here...u are looking at the tip of an iceberg you can't believe... follow the money... My last Dr. visit/physical was the week I existed the USMC in 1981... I do get a blood profile every other yr... this does involve a Dr...they see my age & blood profile and comment I must be eating my salads...when I explain an omnivore diet plus my supplements they argue...so sad...
