You are wrong about India :In the national flag of India the top band is of Saffron colour, indicating the strength and courage of the country. The white middle band indicates peace and truth with Ashoka Chakra. The last band is green in colour shows the fertility, growth and auspiciousness of the land.

CYFHD the United Kingdom formed when the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland united: hence the name "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" (previously United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, until Southern Ireland became independent). The flag of Great Britain and the flag of Ireland were joined. The flag of Great Britain was the same as today's Union Jack, but without the diagonal red bars. the blue background had come from Scotland's flag, and the red cross from England's flag. The flag of Ireland was originally a pair of diagonal red bars on a white background, hence the diagonal red bars on today's Union Jack. The original flag of Ireland is now unofficially used to represent Northern Ireland. Since Wales had been under English rule when the Kingdom of Great Britain was founded, its flag was never used in the Union Jack.

Italy did not get its flag from Mexico. The colors come from the uniforms of militiamen in Milan. There is also the theory that Napoleon, upon conquering the area, gave it the French flag a replaced the blue with green because he really liked that color. I have yet to find a single source that mentions Mexico other than passing comments about the resemblance between the two flags.

Wrong on the very first one. The red diagonal stripes are the cross of St Patrick and were added to the Union Flag in 1801 following the Act of Union which abolished the Irish parliament in Dublin and united the kingdom of four countries under a common parliament in Westminster. Prior to that, the Union Jack didn't have the red diagonal stripes. As you can verify by checking any paintings/illustrations of the American revolutionary war of the 1780s and 1790s.

Robert Mühling that depends on how you define colonization. Ofcourse Italy occupied Ethiopia for five years during WW2. History, for some reason, accounts it as "attempted colonization". The current Canadian flag, The Maple leaf, or l'Unifolié (the one you showed), was not our National flag during WWII, nor any variation thereof. Though, technically, Canada did not have an official flag at that time. It wasn't until 1945 that we officially started using the Canadian Red Ensign, up until then we used it unofficially. The Red Ensign consists of a Union Jack in the top, left-hand, corner, on a Red field. On the right-hand side there's a crest depicting 5 items, Three Lions(Britain), Scots Dragon(Scotland), Three Fleurs-de-lis(French), a Harp(Ireland), and three, united Maple leaves(Canada). Prior to 1921 the crest on the Canadian Red Ensign contained many more items. The one that you showed wasn't our national Flag until 1965. It was designed by two Canadians, George Stanley and John Matheson, who based it on the flag of the Royal Military College of Canada.

That video isnt a good one. For example the Greek flag has a meaning in its stripes. The stripes are 9 in total, like the syllabes of the phrase "liberty or death", in Greek that phrase has 9 syllabes. The White and Blue symbolise the Sea, the Sky, and the Light, known also as the colors of Freedom. And the Cross symbolise the Christ of course. I did some research and i noticed that other flags as well have more meanings than this video says. So do your research to find more, it is really interesting for humanity to know the historic symbols of its nations.

The Canadian Maple Leaf flag was introduced in 1965. Before then it consisted of a red field with a British Union Jack in the top left hand corner (red ensign) with a Canadian coat of arms at the centre of the red field.

In the Union Flag, the Crosses are actually the crosses of: The Patron Saint of England, St. George (the Red Cross and the slightly larger white cross in the middle); Scotland, St. Andrew (the dark blue areas and the white saltire); and Ireland, St. Patrick (the red saltire). The reason why Wales isn't there is because it was only seen as a separate country (within the United Kingdom) comparatively recently.

Actually, Ethiopia has been an independent state for millennia (excepting a brief Italian occupation in the World War II era). In a sense it was the first African state to gain its independence, from ancient Egypt! As for the Canadian flag, the Pearson story is accurate but the maple leaf was not added to the flag. The current Maple Leaf flag was an entirely new design, replacing the Red Ensign, so called because it was red and bore a Union Jack in the canton as well as shield with a coat of arms (which varied over time). From 1921 until the Maple Leaf flag was adopted in 1965, this coat of arms included three maple leaves as well as the lions of England and Scotland, the harp of Ireland and the fleur-de-lis of France (and Québec). The earlier versions from 1868 to 1921 also had maple leaves. The Red Ensign is still in limited use, for instance at the Vimy Ridge cemetery, and both Ontario and Manitoba use variations of the Red Ensign as their provincial flags.

Yeah. It's quite simple really. Our flag hasn't changed much at all since 1818, other than to add more stars as our country grows. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies, and each star represents a state. There are 50 states now, but there will be 51 if Puerto Rico becomes a state. Blue represents hope, white represents peace, and red represents the blood shed to make this country free.

Although the flag as it is now exists from 1801, its origins are in 1607, when King James I/VI ordered a flag to be made for all English and Scottish ships, as he was king of both countries, which is also notable as these countries didn't form Great Britain until 1707. I also think you are mixed up in the Canadian flag. The current flag wasn't adopted until 1965. The maple leaf story you talk about, is probably to do with the Canadian Red Ensign of 1921-57.
