I love the look of this, both colors look Great, but I think I'm slightly more drawn to the silver dial. I have a hard time passing up blue hands. The size does sound like it might wear too large, but it doesn't look bad on the model in those wrist shots.

I love the implementation of the steps on the case. No lume, no center seconds, no date, and I am more than happy with it!! It looks right for the genre. I like a see through case back. It's fun!

It's lovely and I wish the public were drawn to this stile. But they won't be, so Alpina will no doubt drop it by next year and we'll see it on the usual watch sale sites for 8000 euros within a week of that.

That strap looks massive for sure. the Alpina font is also too thick imo. Apart from these two points I quite like it. Let's wait 6 month or so to find it half price on the grey market, or even better try to find a vintage alternative for those who like smaller sizes. Vintage small square watches are quite inexpensive. I own for example a 33mm Alpina with the great 598 movement that I bought for 30€, and it has a lot more presence than its 33mm would suggest.

This is really rather attractive. I suppose almost literally reproducing a back catalogue piece, but tasteful. I do completely agree though that 39mm is pushing it and 22mm is basically too much, so they should have decided on the best lug width to set the size. 20mm would likely have made a decent difference and 19 or 18mm may well have been the sweet spot. As for variant, my preference is certainly the cream. This cream appears creamier than the more usual off-white cream. It's quite warm in tone and that works well with the ostrich strap, too. I also appreciate ostrich leather, especially these cuts with pimples. I did not realise Alpina is FC (and yes, then it would be Citizen). FC itself is a slightly underappreciated brand among enthusiasts. I have the impression that it caters more to a non-enthusiast market, while actually offering good and some interesting pieces, not forgetting women, too.

Both watches are beautiful, and I tend to lean towards the grey and cream dial as it projects a more Art Deco look popular during the 1930s. However, seeing the black dial version on the model's wrist, it really looks quite nice. I suspect I could be happy with either one.

I think it looks great. Very classy, and the lug width is perfect, in my opinion. The cream dial is my favorite.

They should have not enlarged this watch. It's very big, especially for this style of watch. Other than this, pretty damn nice! That square NoS movement version sounds very delicious!

I've been looking for a rectangular watch for my 8 1/2" wrist and all so far have been far to small so this looks perfect. I don't like Roman Numerals so this looks right up my street. Both nice but I think I prefer the light face. Thanks for bringing it to my attention 😊 👍

22 mm makes it more compatible with my collection and I have a 185 mm wrist and am quite a stocky chap so this could be the tank for me.

I really like the grey dial version but they’re a bit large and fat like you said. I don’t understand why so many watchmakers supersize ‘heritage’ models when surely it’s vintage watch lovers who are likely to buy these sorts of watches.

There's also a hand-wound mechanical version of the lighter colour dial limited to 14 pieces, i'd love it but the price is 5k which is too high for me, but the automatic one definitely ends up on my list now!

I honestly much prefer the look of the Longines Dolce Vita in this price segment. Similar looks, much better proportions, and you get a "ladies" size if you want a smaller size.

Nice watch design, and I have no problem with them making it bigger for today's large-wristed crowd. However, this shows just how out of touch modern watchmakers are in terms of classic watch sizing and proportions. This watch would benefit greatly from a much smaller case size (e.g. 32-34 mm diameter) and a manually wound movement to make it as slim as possible. Square/rectangular watches do indeed wear MUCH bigger on the wrist, hence the reason for making the case much smaller.

This watch is beautiful and I would immediately buy it had they not enlarged the size of the original by 3 millimetres. I have thin wrist and I hate all the oversized monstrosities watchmakers produce nowadays. Another issue with Alpina is that their watches are not available anywhere in London. They don't even have a customer service email address on their website. I'm not quite sure how one can conduct business with them...and NO, I am not going to buy a watch online. For me the whole in-store experience matters. I only buy commodities online but no luxury items.
