The Alpine A424 is a racing car designed by Alpine and Oreca. It complies with the new LMDh (Le Mans Daytona h) regulations shared by the ACO and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA). Two examples will be entered in the 2024 World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Just saw this machine at COTA 6 Hours. Would stand in the bridge and could hear it one or two curves away. What a distinctive sound from all the pack of Hypercars. The best sounding. Sounds like the current F1s but really really loud. Fantastic. Such a distinctive sound when passing through. The other one that sounded distinctive was the Cadillac that sounds like freedom V8 noise.

I was very surprised by its sound, I had seen a few videos made by Alpine but it was difficult to realise, I was afraid that it sounded like an F2 (the engine of the Alpine is derived from that of the F2) but it has a very good sound and it is quite noisy!

It's never loud enough! 😂 For me, it's a pleasant surprise. I was afraid that the sound would be similar to that of the Ginetta G60-LT-P1 Mecachrome, which was very quiet

It's a very nice sound I agree, turbocharged engines rarely make very nice sounds! It reaches around 8800/9000 rpm.

@@worldracingofficialF2 engines are rev limited to 8750 rpm I believe, so the Alpine should rev to 8750 at the most, maybe down to 8500 for reliability.

Absolutely gorgeous sound, awesome turbo chirp live. In having said that, the Alpine's have really annoying head-lights from a spectator standpoint and it doesn't help that the Alpine drivers flash their lights more than the rest of the class combined.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound, I thought it would be less noisy, personally I wasn't annoyed by the headlights

"Reliability is lacking" we haven't seen Sao Paulo as I'm writing this, but both Alpine went to the finish line in the first 3 races, made it to the top 10 2 times, and one of those top 10 was made after 10 hours of racing... Just look who's P4 in the championship 😊

​@@worldracingofficialThe closest obvious comparison is F2 since those are also Mechachrome engines. It sounds slightly different based on my own interpretation of hearing this and then immediately going and listen to some crowd shots of the 2023 F2 cars but it's still overall very similar IMO.

It sounds fabulous, but the motor itself just isn't reliable. Both Alpine's turbo V6 engines went bang at Le Mans within moments of each other.

@@worldracingofficial It does. It is a hard thing to modify an engine originally designed for sprint racing (Formula 2 open wheel cars, I believe), and adapt it for an endurance racing application.

@@cliffordbruber2791 Yes, that's right, it's basically a Formula 2 engine designed by Mecachrome, and in F2 it develops 620 bhp, whereas in WEC it reaches almost 700 bhp
