You DO NOT have to wire to OBD2 harness guys. FIRST huge credit given to Brock. Much deserved dude. Honestly never could've done it without your discovery of the HU requiring a switched signal. That said, I installed mine today. I watched this video then I experimented around myself. I asked myself, if it does not require a live current but only a open/closed signal, why not just wire to same chassis of vehicle with a toggle switch in the circuit? Voila, your welcome guys. Ground to chassis with a simple toggle on/off switch. Thanks again Brock.

There's such a thing as a momentary off switch. The circuit is normally closed, but it opens while the switch is held. This is the best way to do this.

If this works for me I'll be so happy after installing this thing for a week I wanna be done. Lol. (Didn't hook speakers up at first, didn't realize it till afterwards, plus got snow storms that delayed the project in progress.) That's why it took a week for those wondering. Now I just have this issue left to fix. Edit: update, it worked for me by attaching the wire shown in the video to any bare metal or screw head that connects directly to the body of my car. So seems like as long as it's a ground point it'll work.

I seen that video but it didn't work on my 07 jeep. Maybe I did something wrong I don't know. I haven't installed car audio since the late 90s.. The hardest part back then was finding the ignition on wire to power the deck. Now these new decks are rightly fked with this bypass crap. What a headache. But you're right, that is the absolute easiest method without mucking around with switches and bypass crap.I've never really owned dodge and its true what they say about the electrical.. When I first hooked it all up, the wipers and lights all came on as soon as I hooked up battery and turned to ignition on position. Had to track down a stray wire and disconnect battery to reset it all. Had me worried because of these dodge wiring nightmares I hear about.

And black to alpine black ground wire. Green only hook up if your alpine has it. Your ilx w650 doesn't so leve green unhooked. I have the newer model of yorh stereo the ilx w670 and it works great. No need for a switch. Just turn radio on and every time you have all controls and can passenger can watch video while driving. Don't watch while driving of course. But this works. Complete bypass parking break

I would be really careful grabbing ground at the OBD2 connector. Especially if it's a data ground. Because those grounds don't go directly to the Battery. They go through the computer first. So that could very easily fry your computer.

It would depend on whether the momentary switch had a resting set of open or closed, most would require you to hold it in place. To keep it simple and easy for the viewers trying it at home I recommended not using it, since the majority of switches wouldn't work.

Thanks for the video. Very helpful, I installed my Alpine screen about a week ago now, and come to find out, the parking brake wire isn't working, so therefore when I pull the ebrake itself, it's not kicking the signal back to the stereo that ebrake Is engaged. So I've been locked out since I installed it. I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, is it pin 4&5 in the jeep as well? I'm asking only for educational purposes only, really tho lol, bc I am still leaning towards getting the bottom line problem fixed. But just for educational purposes I'm asking is it the same pins for obd2 with your vehicle as for 2003 JGC?

@@Juggalotus253 thanks for the reply, I was talking about this with someone and they said I can just take my wire that was meant for the OBD2 and just tie it down to a good ground inside my Jeep. For one is that true? And for two, where inside a 2003 JGC can I bolt down this wire? Without having to remove the stereo again? Like is there any good ground on the seats, or under the center console, or anywhere that doesn't require ripping half the Jeep apart? I'll probably just use the OBD2, but I'm still wondering where other possibilities of a good ground connection can be made? Bc it seems like everything is separated by plastic, so I can't really imagine where there's a good ground connection possibility.

All I want is to play my mp3 music and nothing but the radio works.. Im in a small northern ontario city, covid destroyed the local shops etc.. There is one car audio installer left surviving and his price for install is outrageous, like all other service industries or contractors. Never use the OBD for such stuff. That is a totally wrong advice. Why so complicated? The Radio already has ground!!! Just splice it into the ground of the radio itself or even more easy, ground it to the chassis itself! These are the vids which teach the wrong things to people!!! And by the way, older cars like this use a simple ground switch anyways for the parking brake or emergency brake signal. Just splice it into the parking brake and get rid of such hack solutions in the first place! NEVER ever use your OBD to mess around with such things. Its a direct line to your ECU and if you short something out it could potentially kill your ECU which will let you have a dead car and a very costly repair bill for a new ECU. The CAN Bus is a delicate system which does not like such things. Your last sentence is just ridiculous. If no one should replicate what you did and you are not responsible for possible damage why are you showing this then which such a wrong advice? The feature blocking with parking brake applied is not new folks. It is there since more than 20years already and as said above the parking brake signal switch is on 99% of the cars a ground switch hence if you ground this cable from the radio to ground it will do the same as the one from the parking brake. Don't forget that Alpine and others in the last years introduced the double set parking brake requirement. So you have to apply your parking brake, release it and apply it again to unlock the settings! This means it will not show you the settings on the first ground signal! You have to double activate it! If you dont want to press the button twice there are bypass modules available which do this for your automatically! They are cheap on Amazon and work.
