just upgraded from my 2008 cde 9886 to this one, using the alpine 5 channel amp with JL audio 6.5" mit/tweets X 4, And a JL 10" sub in my ranger........i;m not into the boom, but into the really clean sound, and the old deck is no slouch but i needed bluetooth/hands free/and XM. I would not go with anything but a alpine head unit, this one is the best.....if using the alpine 5 channel, you will need 3 outputs for it.... or you will not have Bass/treble/sub controls.

KTP-445A; is this a decent upgrade to the 50 watt built in amp? I am about to install my 164BT but I might wait and get the amp and do both at the same time. I can add a sub later pretty easily.

No after market amp just the one in the radio, I installed this unit last year and put all four new speakers. When I turn the radio on I here a pop in my left rear speaker I was playing with the setting yesterday and if I go to audio set up and I turn off power ic I can here a little sound but it has a very crackly sound to it.

wayne2160 disconnect the speaker that you hear the pop from. That speaker should be the problem. Cut the wire behind the radio. See if the problem goes away

It does not have 50 watts per ch? That's is the peak power per ch.

You know one of the biggest problems I usually run into with some of these single din decks is scrolling thru large music folders when you use a usb flashdrive, I wish that you guys would include a clip showing how that would look like, the main reason why its hard is because most of mp3's I listed to start off with a date then the track name so most units don't even scroll through enough to even show you the track title, also most units will only show you on track on the screen which makes it hard to know if you passed the track you were looking for

Yes it is no fun using a drive for a big library. Most of the time we use Pandora or Spotify and skip the headache.

All I ever use is my 16gb flash drive and higher, it is so easy to cycle through with the push of the rotary button... you can then search and scroll EVERYTHING and have any song playing in just mere seconds, you just need to learn how all the buttons work

Should the subwoofer level be on 15 when setting your gains? Should it be on any particular subwoofer system when settings the gains? System 1 vs System 2?

FlatlandWulf it does not do Flac, it can out before Flac was popular. This was updated on the later release of the CDE- 163BT.

Ok it start to work after I unplugged it does that mean the speaker is no good or my wiring is backwards?

wayne2160 it means the speaker is shorting out the radio. If you have a meter check the ohm of the speaker. The speaker may also have an internal short to the frame and when screwed in it shorts out. Check the wires in the door and make sure you did not screw into one. Try plugging it in while holding it and see if the radio cuts out. If so you need a new speaker.

Hi there. You will need a Bestkits BKGMK351 dash kit, a baa20 antenna adapter, and a Pac-Audio C2R-gm11 radio replacement harness.

It does come with a cage and a trim ring. It does not come with a dash kit. What type of car is it?

I had this radio installed by a local to me stereo shop, when the features were being talked about, I thought he said it has the ability to set the clock from FM radio station. Was he mistaken and thinking of a different radio? I have search google and can't find any info that says that the clock can be set from FM radio stations. Thanks. Also thanks for explaining the MX Setting, I noticed when I finally found it, to my 67 year old ears, it made a big difference.

No that isn't it either, because you, the user is doing the setting, I already read that. It does sound close but not an automatic thing, which I was lead to believe. "To synchronize the clock to another clock/watch or radio time announcement," To the the key word is "announcement", to me that means that some on air personality has said the time, then you push the enter button. Thanks but I am of the opinion that he was getting radios mixed up when we were discussing radios.

They are both going to sound amazing, the 149 has a better display screen and HD radio. If you are using radio power the 164 has a better amp. Good luck, enjoy.

JN Mackall it is more powerful sounding. You can always just add a real amp to the Kenwood. That would sound better then any deck power

just bought that deck today it's amazing blows anything pioneer makes away, reason I got it i just couldn't stand how my pioneer sounds way cleaner deck the eq is perfect I just don't like pioneers sound muddy bumpy flat bkahhhhh, system spec fronts 2 cadence pro audio 8's, jl zr xovers 2, jl zr tweets per door powered by powerbass 1200.1 class ab amp 600/2 @2ohms killer setup sub channels 2 twistedsounds 3.5ks on 4 soundqubed hdc3 15"s pulls 150s at 30hz sealed up #ftw

This radio is awesome but has a few major issues... for one its geared as an SQ deck that can do 3way active but cannot play any time of lossless audio over USB not even WAV like the Pioneer 80prs can. On the 3 way active the mid/high slope only goes up to 12db not 24db like the rest of the speakers. What the hell? All the old Alpines could do 24db for ALL!!!! The other issue is the garbage Alpine Tune IT app which I looked forward to as it's so much easier to adjust settings and time alignment this way but it wont work.. it just disconnects every time I try to use it. If it wasn't for these things it would be an amazing radio. Im sticking it in my daily it will not go in my SQ car. I guess ill get the Sony that does DSD... damn you Alpine...

Should have went with the CDE-HD149BT. My ipod plugged in directly through usb sounds amazing. Not to mention the built in Parametric EQ and Crossover functions. I upgraded from an old CDA-9825 lol

The deck I mentioned does lossless audio on my ipod when you convert Flac to Alac. The speaker slope goes up to 24db and the Tune IT app works perfectly. I found a few tunings that sound amazing from other peoples cars. Just saayyyinn there's still really good Alpines
