Wow! This was a terrible episode. This was poor and lazy writing. Unbelievable, juvenile plot. The part about getting locked in the Kingsfield’s office was lifted from the movie, so not even that was an original idea by the writers. The hypothetical question that is assigned, which is what drives the plot, has nothing to do with contract law. If anything it would be used in criminal law. This is a plot for a (not very good) 30 minute high school comedy sitcom episode, like “Saved by the Bell.” It is impossible to conceive of graduate students - at least sober ones - thinking and behaving so ridiculously. It’s equally inconceivable how something like this got made as an episode for a network “prestige show” for broadcast during prime time on CBS, the most successful and prestigious American television network at the time. I’d never seen this episode before, and I’m glad I’ll never have to see it again.
