ALTARAGE has introduced me to the concept of dissonant death metal. A genre which I could never enjoy. But now, it's bands like this along with Ulcerate and Portal that I find a strange sense of calmness to. Initially it's a ruthless storm. And the music hits you like a tidal wave. But once you succumb to it and become submerged, that's where everything becomes clear. And it keeps becoming clearer. One layer at a time.

Ion Flavius, looks like you don't know what a dissonance in music is. Look for it, it's not hard to understand. Basically all western music, even metal (except for many avant garde bands) is *consonant* So, doing the opposite (augmented and diminished chords all over the place, instead of minors, 5ths, majors, etc) is what creates this weird static, dark noise.

I think this is boring and I listen to all kinds of dissonant music. It's monotonous and annoying. Gorguts, Portal, Ulcerate, Antediluvian, Aevangelist...all great bands. But man, what the hell was this band thinking? There's almost no textural variety or flavor until RIFT, which actually uses a scale of extended sharps to create an almost pizzicato-style dissonant formation...but I had to listen through 17 minutes of pure nonsense to get to it. The album took until Orb Terrax for me to actually find something I felt was interesting from a chordal standpoint, the mixture of drum blasts and guitar grooves felt proper in that part. But to take 25 minutes to wow me on a 36 minute album? It's a real kick in the teeth for dissonant or "blackened" death metal because rather than getting down to business to create something atmospherically or conceptually rich, it only manages to create the barest contrivance of experimentation. I'm disappointed to say the least

I enjoy every second of this album and find it trippy as a musical representation of a dark miasmal flux. I think it's great that there are not that much focus in it on headbang parts and regular osdm. it's full of dark ambience and beyond-wrath melodies!

This is not good. Dissonance when applied correctly works. When applied to everything it turns into pure nonsense. This is the heavyetal equivalent of mumble trap music. Shit disguised as abstract experimentation.

Luis Barrera did you even listen to the album? There is no dissonance covering anything up. I can clearly hear everything these talented musicians are playing. Your statement seems to be directed at a different band...one thing is if you dont like this band or genre. But again your statement is just not applicable here. Also comparing it to mumble trap rappers? Really? Im curious as to how many "good" trap albums you own.

Gagstab Bodybag it's fine if you like them dude. It just sounds like atmospheric nonsense to me. I can decipher whats being played, and they have a good melody here and there but as a whole, this kind of music is not sustainable or marketable. Independently, its not good.

Dysonances will not turn anyone in artist. Composition is important even with consonances "music" like this is simply amateurish.
