Now we look at playing altered chords. I'll show you a little theory trick that should help you remember them and make up your own grips and then I'll go through and show you the common ways to play them.

Man ive got to tell you ...you are a brilliant wise man ..the most significant thing in all those lessons is the quit easily built way of teaching which provides the student fully understanting in every little aspect of the theory in the lesson. Subbed your channel few years back ago and still following up every video and try to pick up every little piece of information in every video. Great job Justion ..great job.

This was actually really well described (as was the previous video on altered scales). Great lesson! I was able to experiment and apply it immediately. The whiteboard run-through is what clarified everything.

your white board of doom.....is fantastic....and you take pride in your teacher chops! sir. 'grips' means chord shapes...duh? thank you tons for the easy to follow lessons, Im a bass player venturing into the 6 string realm....you make the extra strings make sense.

@SemiTall Ya it is confusing if you look at it like that. I see what you're saying and it would make more sense if he had an extra fret in there (making the G on the third fret), but it's not really important. The important thing is that you understand the shape, as it can be moved anywhere (not just G). I'm sure you know this, but ya don't worry too much about which fret it's on. Justin's diagram isn't accurate with the frets, but the shapes are all he really wants us to focus on.

Justin the only notes that can be altered on a Dom chord is the 5 sharp or flat and the 9 sharp or flat correct ? Only 4 notes

Is G7 in the key of C or key of G? just want to make sure...cuz i thought G7 is in the key of C and D7 is in key of G, but you said in the video that you are in the key of G

IbanezjemJSX​ Yep, G7 is something you would encounter in the key of C major. The idea behind the altered scale is that because dominant seventh chords have tension that resolves when the I chord is played after them, using the altered scale simply adds to that tension.

Music theory. C major scale: c d e f g a b c. But C7 chord is actually: C E Bb. We have flattened the B from major scale, and hence flat 7
