THIS is the perfect ending, it connects with the opening scene where we see old John Connor as a war veteran, scarred, in a dark future. Now, we see an alternate future where things are much much better now. John is a family man, Sarah has a grandchild, and the world is safe. This is the true ending to the Terminator franchise

This ending could have been too sweet from some people, but taking into account how bad were the rest of the movies who tried to do a "realistc, dark, deep, complex" ending like t3, t4, t5 and t6. Yeah as Patric H Wellmes said: Is better having a good sequel rather a problematic trilogy. This ending Is the best, no need for more. In my head canon John Is married with one of those red hair girl (the ones who the t1000 asked about John). Also his mullet ginger friend Is still his beat friend. John Is also close friend with the childs of Dyson because they shared the same Fate of his father being killed by the machine war. The kids of Dyson followed his father step and worked ok Cyberdine and created a good version of Skynet so Humanitie and Machinnes are in peace. John could figure out what Is the Man who served as model for the T800. But most important John Is working at the senate with the help of his friend a Young talented man called Kyle Reese.

@Xylarxcode
@Xylarxcode 2 жыл бұрын
@Jan It's neither 1997 when this scene was shot nor in the future it's supposed to take place in. It was shot in 1991. But in the context of the movie, Sarah clearly states that 30 years have passed since the time Judgment Day was supposed to happen in 1997, which means this scene takes place in 2027. Real scene: Shot in 1991. Fake movie reality: Set in 2027.
@jaymum23
@jaymum23 2 жыл бұрын
@@Xylarxcode This is a lot better-looking than our real 2027 will be, loud early 90s clothes and all. Love those glass skyscrapers and lots of trees. No homeless, no smog, no shootings, people appear to be intelligent- this really isn’t culturally possible in America. Nice fantasy though. What I love about this scene- the subtle continuity errors regarding the setting. 😁 The opening pan reveals a clear future Washington DC, with the monument and Capitol (sans fascist insurrectionists) visible in a nice matte painting. But then at 0:40 you can see a palm tree in the background vegetation. At 1:25 John lifts his daughter up and the camera rises with him, to reveal the San Gabriel Mountains in the background. Whoops! 🤣

@raynekraven
@raynekraven 10 ай бұрын
@@pogtuber5146 at an era where male characters a reduced to stupid sidekicks, this movie isn't an exception. The only male character that could have been useful,(aside from the Terminator), was Dani Ramos' brother, but he (conveniently killed off almost at the beginning. When Grace arrives, instead of taking the girl's clothes, she takes the guy's clothes, making him look stupid. Because for her butchy character, women's clothes are a huge NO-NO. They masculinized Sarah Connor who was strong and feminine in T-1 and T-2. Because Feminity and strength doesnt go hand to hand in feminists minds. Then the killing of John Connor, who ALWAYS was depicted as the legendary Leader of the resistance, to replace him with a Latina Woman (because God forbid choosing a white girl, coz you know, diversity, and also another guy had to die, just because...) and the replacement of Skynet by Legion... That movie is utter non-sense. And The Terminator is named Carl now? and owns a drapery business? James Cameron RARELY misses the mark, but when he does, it is Epic.

But another AI named Legion emerged later in the future, and they they got a T101 and sent it back in time to kill John Connor shortly after the events of T2, and actually succeeded. After that T101 completed its sole objective, it had nothing else to do. It couldn't go back in time, so it just adapted in the world and lived like a human. How Legion got hands on a t101.. who knows.. T101 model in T2 did leave an arm IIRC

The sad part the war isn't going much better. The skynet party holds 59 seats in the sentate, 1 short of a veto proof majority. Terminators occupy only 3 supreme court seats, but once sworn in, immediately terminated 3 of the other justices. They were asked specifically during confirmation about this , but wouldn't answer as they felt answering whether they would or would not murder the other justices gives an impression of how they might decide in a given circumstance of whether to murder justices.

I like this ending and there's nothing inherently wrong with it, but sometimes, subtlety works best. The shot of the road going by says so much more with so little. Just a "life goes on" vibe. Sarah doesn't get complete closure, but she does have her faith in humanity restored. Sadly, it also opened the door for terrible sequels.

I agree, the open-ended ending is much more satisfying from a human perspective. It's a lot more immersive cause you're left to guess what happens next, so it encourages imaginative thinking. But somehow a bunch of execs interpreted the positive response to the ending as us wanting to be told what comes next rather than imagine for ourselves

This is a nice scene, but they made the right call leaving it more open-ended in the theatrical release, it allowed everyone to decide for themselves, or debate with each other whether they'd actually changed the future or not. She was the sole surviving adult that was involved in the attack on a company that caused millions in damage and left several police officers wounded after a violent escape from a state psychiatric facility, all for a cause that she could never prove because any exculpatory evidence was destroyed. She'd still have to spend the rest of her life living in exile in a country with no extradition treaty with the US or face life in prison.

A bullshit line that contradicts all the rules of time travel set in T1 and an inevitable future that T1 laid out and the biggest mistake they did in T2, yet so many fans who don't know better buy it up as if it's gold. It's bullshit in every way (Kyle never told it to Sarah as John in T2 said and if it was true then John would've had a different father in a timeline that would've passed prior to the time travel where he sent Kyle back to 1984 but that didn't happen). The future in the series was always written (we didn't need a shitty 3rd film to remind that to us). It was not a mistake how they ended up in the Cyberdyne factory at the end of T1. That was always destined to happen. It happened in the 2020's that Kyle was from before he ever time traveled because there was always a Kyle Reese in 1984 to have gone back to protect Sarah and ultimately lead the terminator to that factory. Instead of getting the shitty 3rd film we got, what we truly deserved was a 3rd film that brought things full circle & ending with Kyle time traveling back to 1984 to close the loop after Skynet was blown to hell. Another interesting thing they could've done in the version of T3 we deserved is to have Arnold play a human character who is a high ranking officer in John's resistance force that the machines would've captured and cloned much like Solid Snake in the Metal Gear series. I always thought they should've shown a reason why so many terminators had Arnold's form and explaining it as the machines cloning a genetically superior human (i.e. the character Arnold would play) would've cleared that up and perhaps even made him infamous and taint his reputation (to perhaps make John not trust him when it came time to pick who would be in the upper ranks of his resistance) as a result of the evil terminator's actions in 1984. It would've been amazing & very badass if Terminator and Predator were owned by the same group so that the person cloned and used as a mold for so many terminators could be Dutch, though that would probably not make sense since Dutch was from 1987, not the 2020s. To make it work, it would require him being frozen in some stasis like state where he didn't age, but since Dutch was a different franchise anyway, might as well have made it a Terminator-specific character.

Um, if you say so. This was the ending that should've been in the theatrical release even when I saw it in the Ultimate Edition (yes, decades ago). It made sense and provided closure - Humans won, Sarah can live the rest of her life knowing she saved humanity, end of story. Hollywood was too greedy. Everyone knows most sequels suck. Look at Highlander, it should've ended at the first movie. Alien and Aliens and that's it, but they had to push their luck and trot out the steaming pile called Alien^3.

With respect, you need to see more "old" movies. I'm assuming you mean films from the 70's, 80's and 90's, the vast majority of which portray the future as DYStopic, with GRIM futures. And even the very few "utopian" examples during those three decades turn out to be run by corrupt, fascist lunatics or governments. The *majority* of science fiction films have portrayed dystopic futures, unless you're talking about sci-fi from the 50's and 60's, which was more positive. From the 70's onward, sci-fi has been mostly dystopic and showing nightmare futures. In fact, the only *positive* sci-fi future world I can think of after the 50's would be "Star Trek" and even that involves war and conflict. The only reason *THIS* scene is "positive" is because she stopped the nightmare future that was already coming - and it was deleted from the film.

What I really love about this ending is that it ties up the running theme with the children's playground very nicely. It's shown several times thoughout the film, the very beginning, both the flashback with John on the swing and in the ruins of L.A. 2029. The opening title crawl shows the playground on fire, and of course the amazingly horrifying atomic blast dream sequence. It goes to show that the future is secured, that the next generation of humanity is spared from Judgment Day.

No, the ending we deserved was a 3rd movie set in the future war against the machines that ended with Kyle traveling to 1984, thus bringing the series full circle, along with a 2nd film that didn't shit all over the time travel rules laid out in the first film. There was no changing the future, yet they just decided to ditch that rule because it was inconvenient for what they wanted to end T2 with. The whole "No fate but what we make" is bullshit. Kyle never said that to Sarah. The only time we ever hear that in T1 is in a non-canon deleted scene and Sarah is the one saying it, not Kyle and it makes no sense for someone like her to have said it when she doesn't understand things from the future point of view. That's why they left it out of T1----because it didn't fit her character nor did it fit the predestiny style time travel they were doing where the future is unavoidable. Despite everything they did in T1, they ended up leading the Terminator to the Cyberdyne factory where remnants of the terminator from T1 were obtained by Cyberdyne. There was a non-canon deleted scene showing the processor being found by a Cyberdyne manager, but T2 stuck with that as well, so we saw early on in T2 how they only sped up the inevitable by their actions in T1. Even if you ignore that though and only consider the scenes we got in the theatrical version, when you watch the ending of T1 when the gas station guy tells Sarah that there's a storm coming, she replies "I know" meaning not the weather but the nuclear storm that is the war started by the machines and the movie ends on that doomed future note. T2 should've done the same thing but instead chose to retcon and break the very rules they laid out, which is a prime example of bad writing.

What is better? Sarah being a grandma peacefully with his son John, a good father playing with his daughter. or John killed by the t800, and a depressive Sarah with nothing to lose

I will never waste my 2 hours of my life again on Dark Fart when i can watch this incredible 2 minute video on the true ending to the Terminator story. John Conner lives, Sarah Connor celebrates and cherishes motherhood, lives a peaceful life. No more stupid and repetitive sequels. Terminator salvation is the only sequel that deserves respect for trying to do something different.

You totally should watch dark fate. It's a great movie. The action scenes were actually better than T2, and the characters were equally good, but it is positively riddled with plot holes.

No, Terminator shouldn't have a happy ending, otherwise it just shats all over the first two movies.

@@Supasmartguy What is the purpose by continuing to watch when the main character to why this story, why this franchise even exists in the first place, has been axed off? What is the point of watching a movie for only mindless action scenes? Its no different from eating a beef sandwich with no beef in it.

I think they should build off this deleted scene, and make a sequel to Part 2 (again), with Linda Hamilton beginning the movie with this scene but with something leading to a new threat. This can bring back Linda Hamilton and Arnold at the current age. The tones of part 1 and 2 need to be felt in order to move forward. James Cameron needs to come back to direct.
