Suddenly regions have twice as many people which effects resources, leaders of nations come back and find they are no longer in charge, wars could erupt over power struggles. People that had jobs would not have them as they are listed as dead or those businesses went under when half their employees disappeared. @新思维新思考新境界3 жыл бұрын
I'm not a biologist but I thought about what would happen to the ecosystem and symbiosis of the very smallest life. If half of all life is gone, then ALL large multi-cellular life would die. Half of life gone means half of microbes dies. It would upset the ecological symbiosis between unicellular life and multicellular life to collapse. There is a saying that bacteria don't need us to survive but we need bacteria to survive. If half of the bacteria in our bodies are gone, my guess is that we would all be dead in a matter of hours or even minutes. Those who survive would have to be so lucky that the probability of most of his inner bacteria were not snapped away to a point below the critical threshold. What are the odds? 50% to the power of millions and billions would give a percentage so low that if multiplied by the sum total population of all humans, or even all big multicellular organisms, would still be less than 1. So mathematically speaking, we would are be doomed.

But I believe he truly did only kill half of all sentient/intelligent life, we saw this throughout the movie when he went planet to planet killing half of the dominant population before leaving. He didn't stop and begin burning down half of all crops, killing half of all livestock, followed by half of all wildlife; his intent was only to kill those that mattered to leave an abundance for the remaining population. As a modern day farmer you know that farming today doesn't require much manpower as it used to aka a single farmer with the right equipment can grow and harvest as many crops in a season as thousands of farmers back in the day would, meaning if half of all farmers disappeared but all their crops stayed intact the remaining farmers would be able to give the world just as much food as we had before the snap while having half the amount of mouths to feed. A culling isn't a solution, it's a stopgap. He's not mad, he's just stupid. And if we listen to Kevin Feige, Thanos is *even stupider.* If the Avengers wanted to stop him, all they had to do was get him in front of a mirror and he'd have eventually picked a fight with "that purple guy over there." They could have put a ring of twigs on the ground around him and he'd have thought he was trapped. If they threw a blanket over his head he'd have assumed it was night time and fallen asleep. Play a never-ending loop of The Big Bang Theory's theme song on their phone and he'd sit there waiting for the episode to start until he starved to death. No, it would have be great if he was mad. Say, insane enough to murder half of existence to try and impress the abstract concept of death--just spitballing here. But no. They gave him a rationale, and I spend the entire film wondering why the hell anyone follows him, because they made a lot of noise about him being powerful and a threat, but just like calling him "the mad titan", all it seemed to be was lip service. "Purple man stronk--he punch good" is about all we got, and this does not a vast army gather, let alone hold. That's even assuming he was able to string enough words together into a believable coherent imitation of speech to get people to follow him in the first place.

Same for all the infrastructure and stuff in the cities, hell Scott Lang probably might remain stuck where he was because in all the chaos who would give half a fuck about locking up a van? In reality, after 5 years that lock up was probably abandoned as part of the mass exodus the video mentions, so even if that rat does manage to free him, he's going to die locked in as there wouldn't be any security to notice him there. Sure, Tony gets to live a life of luxury, but that's because he's part of the 0.0000001% and he cares more about securing his own legacy than saving a world that he helped destroy.

Feige is wrong on this one because in the scene in wakanda and on Hawkeyes farm you never see trees or grass get snapped. Thanos mostly likely meant sentient life and more specifically the dominant life that has higher reasoning on planets. The stones can interpret the users wishes and if Thanos was worried about supply problems why would he remove supply from planets.
@mistersniffers59222 жыл бұрын
Yes. Feige was talking out of his ass, the story was about political control and sentient races competing for resources. Feige may have been imagining that the plants & animals died but he failed to show it in other ways too, as humanity (almost all the sentients shown in the film are human) didn't all immediately get extremely sick as all the gut biome and other living creatures in their bodies immediately dies. The necrotic shock will most likely kill many normal humans.

Let's also consider it would not be literally half of everything. In the film all 6 Avengers are saved but nearly all the Gaurdians get snaped. Therefore the groups dont die by 50%. Based on the movie math......90% of plant life might exist but 90% of fish might die. . This video is great but it also assumes 50% of farmers would die when that might not be the case. Randomly only 30% might die and scientist might have the higher death rate. 50% of all life in the universe doesnt mean every microcosm will be divided by 50%. You could have more spiders die while most snakes live
@Chance572 жыл бұрын
@@Jellofreeze law of averages pretty much makes all of that a moot point. On such a massive scale, you'd expect the trend to hold wherever you look. He didn't snap for a 50-50 chance a living thing would die, he snapped to eliminate 50%. The difference is small but meaningful as the first option allows for exceedingly rare scenarios where the snap kills all life or none and also allows for situations like you mention.

Rey Nemaattori which is why the idea makes absolutely no sense. Because with his wording, he would have taken out half of all living things, not just the people. @@alansmithee419 universe is expanding faster than light why would universe run out of space
@alansmithee4192 жыл бұрын
@@giantcrack8079 Ok, true, but that only serves to complicate the problem rather than fix it. There are populations all over the universe in the MCU, if we assume the universe is homogenous we can say that the whole universe contains a spread of civilisations all across it. Each of these will expand outward in a sphere centred on their planet of origin (or at least we can make that assumption). Eventually these spheres will meet, and the whole universe will be filled, no matter its size (could even be infinite - there would just be an infinite number of civilisations) or expansion rate. There are some more practical problems. Even assuming there's only one civilisation in the universe you still find it to be near impossible: Populations grow exponentially; the volume of a sphere grows polynomially. This means that without cutting off the population growth (by killing people or enforcing birth control laws - two things most first world societies are incredibly averse to) a civilisation will need to start expanding its borders at an exponential rate (an exponential divided by a polynomial is still exponential). So essentially you would need some kind of warp technology developing fast enough to allow its maximum velocity to outpace the space requirements for continued existence of life. This will likely require exponentially more energy to keep warp vessels running at these higher speeds. To prevent this energy from forming gravitational fields that will collapse into a black hole you'll need to start building exponentially bigger and bigger vessels, and after that also less and less dense vessels (large black holes have less effective density than small ones - the largest are less dense than air), eventually becoming so sparse that no-one can stand in them. Even if you somehow avoid all those problems you still have to hope that the required expansion of your civilisation is slower than the expansion of the universe - which is itself an exponential - the limit is doubling in size (eight times the volume) every 12.2 billion years. So, if your civilisation grows faster than eight times every 12.2billion years (incredibly slowly - we've done that over the past 200 years or so) you're completely screwed. Tl;dr: you're right, but it doesn't help.

I think the biggest issue behind Thanos's idea of purging half of all life in the universe is that, while in the comics he was only interested in doing so because he was in love with Death, who was for some reason a person, this was adapted out into this "From my perspective..." sort of ideology for the movie, one to give his character more depth than an erection, and because the writers didn't want to have to go through explaining Death and her existence/mechanics into an already crammed movie. While it certainly made sense for Thanos not to give a damn about the ramifications of eliminating half of life everywhere, It does become a problem when it suddenly becomes a question of morals. Despite them not having explained or adapted the logic of Thanos properly, the fact that no plant-life having vanished from the scenes in Wakanda as half of the heroes vanished into dust, may have pointed at the idea that maybe when Thanos meant to eliminate 'half of all life' in the universe, he meant to eliminate Sentient life, capable of thought and industrialization, which was the main reason all these starving planets, according to him, where all being pushed out of balance.

Late to the party, only seeing this video now. With the benefit of having watched Endgame, I think that Thanos was NEVER really out to save the universe by destroying half of its life. No, he was just throwing a big, fat tantrum because his solution to "save" Titan was rejected. He wanted to be vindicted and validated; he wanted for someone to not only approve of his plans, but to admit to its brilliance and eventually to worship Thanos for coming up with it. That's why he harps on about "a grateful universe" in both movie; he isn't all that far removed from Nazis harping about Lebensraum as a justification to their conquests. That's why the older Thanos always planed to destroy the Stones once done, to avoid anyone reversing the process (which is indeed exactly what the Avengers tried to do): one more big childish 'because I said so!'; he only waited that much, imo, because it toook that much time for him to recover from the first Snap. And similarly, when his 2014 version sees his plan fulfilled, and yet not a single soul grateful for that, he just snapped (pun unintended); he stops pretending he wants anything but admiration, and decides to just create his worshippers ex nihilo.

People say that MCU Thanos is not comic accurate for not loving death, but tbh, its the opposite, even confirmed by the writers, Thanos didnt wanted to save the universe, he just deeply wanted mass genocide. A big difference is that comic Thanos KNOWS he is the bad guy, which is why he always looses after becoming a god without any intervation from the Living Tribunal, he knows what he does is wrong and sabotages himself. MCU Thanos is different because he thinks he is right no matter what, and there was literally no way he could have lost after getting all six stones unless he was immediatly attacked, since the MCU stones are way much weaker and nerfed than the comic ones. After all, Thanos still loves death, even if he doesnt know, and the MCU one is even scarier because he found an excuse to make him the hero of the universe, which is why he always wins.

That *last* one especially, because *what woman* or even *person* do you know who would *fall in love* with someone for *killing* half of *all living beings* on *any* planet? "Oh yeah? Mine owns a private jet and has his pilot's license, and personally taught me to both fly the plane and took me to thirty different countries I've always wanted to visit, all in the last three months! Beat that!" "Oh, mine does! My boyfriend genocided half the universe! Face it ladies, your men will never have the sweet heart mine does!") The thing is, even without half of all other life being snapped away, it still wouldn’t be great. Modern society relies on global supply chains that are being carefully self-optimized on a daily basis, and have centuries of backup behind them. Normally if 1 person disappears in that supply chain, you’ll find another. If enough workers disappear because of a strike or something, other companies can take up the slack and the supply chain shifts to take advantage of other nodes in the line. With only 50% of the workforce, every node is struggling to survive. For example, let’s say you ship things, well now you only have half the population (or less thanks to all the people in traffic accidents) to ship the same amount of goods. Except your normal pickup guy doesn’t show up. So you call the post office to see if someone else can pick up your shipments, except they’re already struggling to fulfill all the orders they have, and figuring out who’s available (and dealing with the millions of driverless cars on the road). So things just don’t get shipped. The few that do, end up finding that people don’t care about their orders from before the snap. Consumers are either gone or struggling in the panic, business owners are gone or closing down shop as panicked people don’t pay for goods, they loot. Power plants just aren’t turned on or worse malfunction, power grids fail as people in charge aren’t there to oversee them. Even assuming that we eventually get things in order and rebuild things, thanks to the principle of economies of scale, until populations participating in the global supply chain become comparable to modern day populations, (or technology makes up for the gap, which in the chaos technology just isn’t going to progress), prices are going to be more expensive for some things. While food costs likely are going to go down as the amount of arable land in many regions will be more or less the same, most other goods are going to be much more expensive, because while 10 people can produce a 100 units a day, 20 people can often produce 500 units a day thanks to more and better automation, larger scales of production, etc. in short, more people per unit item of most goods will be need to be paid in order to get that good from the factory to your home. And that’s the best possible scenario, more people living in poverty, with higher prices on goods, until population levels recover (which is another thing, what is going to stop most populations assuming they or their support systems don’t totally collapse, from recovering to their pre-Snap levels in a couple generations). Endgame treats the snap like ww2 occurred in the blink of an eye, memorials for the day, a population in mourning but recovering, but the fact is as explained, this would be a crisis far beyond ww2. WW2 killed an estimated 3% of the world population, certainly a shock, but one that was partially mitigated by the fact that a large percentage of them (soldiers) had already been removed from the economy over the course of a few years, the economy had time to react, and it was still brutal. The Black Death is closer, but even it only destroyed a third of the population of Europe and took several decades to do so, in addition, the majority of people in Europe were farmers who for the most part did not really rely on outsiders in order to survive like we do (how many people here grow all their own food from scratch, cook it, make and repair the tools they need to do that, can build their own shelter, etc.). Your village is dead, go to the next one that you can find that has enough survivors to still be a thing, find an empty plot of land and start farming. With our level of specialization, that just isn’t a possibility in today’s world. Try asking an accountant to manage a nuclear power plant and see how well that goes. The only real life example I can think of that seems even vaguely on the same scale is the Bronze Age collapse, where the ancient world effectively underwent the apocalypse. Cities were destroyed, advanced supply chains and trade routes disappeared, societal order broke down, and many weaker nations straight up disappeared. It took the region centuries to recover, and some nations like Egypt, never fully recovered their glory from that time. But this would be a much more dangerous shock to the world. Farmers have a tendency to be the most secure during troublesome times, because they can produce their own food (though the breakdown in law and order leaves them vulnerable to roaming bandits that has a tendency to encourage feudal like arrangements for protection). Meanwhile cities while generally are almost fully dependent upon trade to exist and not starve, are the most vulnerable. The percentage of the world that exists as farmers has been steadily decreasing since the dawn of agriculture, though it dropped drastically around the Industrial Revolution, while the urban population has been rising. During the Bronze Age Collapse, the loss of cities was likely only a small drop in their population, while the majority of farmers, the vast majority of their population, likely would have survived, even if their quality of life dropped drastically. Meanwhile about 50% of the world’s population is urban, and we can expect a good majority to die, cities tend to consume themselves pretty quickly, and the violence in the aftermath would kill a lot of people. All in all, I would not be surprised if after Thanos killed 3.5 billion people, another 1 billion died in the first year afterwards. Considering the miserable state of affairs afterwards, as well as the fact that older people without modern healthcare support would just die in their 50s and 60s, and in the next ten years we could easily see the population drop by another billion people. But well assuming farmers can produce at least a quarter of what they currently can using more sustainable techniques and without modern machinery (which yea, good luck) food prices may just indeed go down. Congratulations, hope you like living in the rural 1800’s or in dystopian cities, because those are now your options.

Do all of the restored Asgardians find themselves (very briefly) floating in empty space like a confused bowl of petunias because their space ships have moved on? So has earth and all other planets. I think this video confirmed it....The Snap, is the WORST apocalyptic scenario to live in. Not only due to the sheer amount of chaos, but watching to watch your loved ones fade to dust and there's no reason why, no answers....just grief and chaos in a world forever damaged. And not only that, but with how sudden it would be, and with populations of countries all over varying by huge degrees, smaller populated countries most likely wouldn't survive. Not to mention right away you'd have MORE than half dying because plane crashes, ship wrecks, nuclear power plants going...well nuclear it would be absolute insanity. I mean yes we would survive, but it would take HUNDREDS of years to bounce back from the Snap. I'd rather live in a nuclear war apocalypse because then EVERYONE is dead. Here? Only half-about half anyways-and if you survive you're just left with pain and no answers. You have to try and move on. And some won't be able to. Meaning MORE life would be lost. In this case people dont know what happened in the avengers universe know what happened. Also the lost of plants and animals seem like a way to make thanos the bad guy as the whole point was that there would be more food and food comes from plants and animals. Also the people who got snapped where at random so there is no 50 percent less doctors or farmers. The smaller the pool of workers the smaller it is affected

@@frking100 the plan is still idiotic as It functions on Malthusian theories, which were proved to be false.

@@taherbertolinirodrigues9104 The plan would be dumb if it hadn't worked before. Thanos cites the planet which it worked there is also the historical source of the flowering economy after the black plague thus making it not idiotic but rather an experiment. You have to run multiple trials and see if you get the desired results. In our reality we dont have enough measurable instances to draw accurate data but in the avengers universe thanos has enough data to at least prove that his experiment is precise

It's explicitly explained in Infinity War that Thanos believes the universe is FINITE. That means, fundamentally, that he's adhering to the concept that energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. That's that the Decimation did.

@@kylemccormack1785 But you could just move resources around. Use the space stone to teleport a planet into a habitable zone, make desolate land farmable, turn boulders into giant loaves of bread. It's like the guy has literally every possible option made easy and he just yeets half of everything and calls it a day.

Hell, this is accurate even with the world shutting down because of the pandemic. Sure, it’s a lot of hyperbole to consider a few million dying on the same scale as half of all life dying, but it would take a lot less than half of all life dying to shut down what we’ve worked so hard to build.
