Hello, Doctor Cliff! Based on your description I am exactly the target audience for AMPCROS setup, I tick literally every single point that you mentioned. The drawbacks to me sound like technological limitations - and since the video is now 4 years old, I was wondering if they are still relevant in the current technological landscape? I get the impression that hearing aid technology has taken massive leaps on the software side of things over the past few years.

Just have to say "Thanks for the shout-out" and give my own 2-cents and try to help on some of the questions. Dr. Olson's video is excellent (as usual). Just too short for me considering I love this topic!

My son just got the baha attract as the headband and adhear were both too difficult for him sensory wise. With microtia/atresia we decided this was the best way to help his hearing. Very glad we did!

Tell me more for single sided deafness and which did you use and why? Adear sounds like a good idea but didn’t work for you? Which worked best? AmpCROS, Cros, BiCros?

Your videos have been such a HUGE help to me! Just this past September, I've been dealing with SSHL for my right ear; and your videos have been an absolutely invaluable resource! I've recently been working with an audiologist to test-drive some different SSD hearing aid options. I was first set up with an AMPCROS, which unfortunately did not work out well for me. I'm happy to hear that this option has been able to help some individuals with their tinnitus - but for me, it actually seemed to aggravate it even more than not using the system and did not provide any noticeable improvement for speech recognition or sound localization. I've now moved on to testing the standard CROS aids, and am finding much greater benefit from these! And watching your previous videos on various CROS systems has really helped me to ask the right questions when talking with my audiologist. Thanks again for all of your help, and keep up the great work!

Any updates on your hearing? Also...is it true that now that we have sshl that our chances of having a stroke are greater...and also that we have to reduce our sodium intake to under 1,400mg

Doctor. My daughter (6y) has now a SSD caused by a mis-treated ear infection and a resulting Labyrinthitis ossificans. Is there any upcoming treatment for this pathology, like some experimental surgery? Is there something else I can do besides a baha or bicross hearing aid?

I experienced left sided Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and the hearing that returned shows a reverse cookie bite (50dB, 20dB, 65dB). I have 72% word recognition and non-stop tinnitus. My right ear is fine. I currently have a unilateral hearing aid. Would AmpCros be beneficial or would it result in auditory deprivation in my left ear and potential worsening of what hearing I do have in my left ear?

@Doctor Cliff, AuD Thank you for explaining what an AmpCROS is. After looking at the advantages and disadvantages of it. I'll just rather pursue the "traditional" BiCROS "system". I'm profoundly deaf in my right ear and moderately deaf in my left. Currently, I'm just using one hearing aid in my "good" left ear. Looking around, it looks like the best CROS / BiCROS hearing setup would be the Phonak Audeo B / BiCROS setup. Wish they would make the Audeo Marvel into a CROS/BiCROS capable system.

Serious question regarding head shadow - what about reflected sound? For example, I'm deaf in my left ear. A sound on my left has to not only travel round with the loss of head shadow, but the sound is reflected off buildings for example, leading to a mild echo effect. Does the BAHA/Cros system compensate for this?

Hello Doc! I have a 14 years old daughter that 1 year ago lost her hearing in her left side, she still not using anything any HA , we went to like 4 different Audiologist and none of them did REM the last one not even a test cause she got the other test results from the other Audiologist but the main reason was to get the ADHEAR but oh my it cost 5,400.00 dollars! So expensive ! Of course my girl wish would be to someday hear her music on stereo. Is there a way you would look at her results? Is there an email I can send it to you and that way just get the answer that it could help her or not this Ampcros. Thank you so much for all you do for all of us. God bless you Doctor! :)

I'll chime in here and say that I have noticed that most audiologists don't value the benefits of the use of CROS technology, let alone AmpCROS, but it has gotten better over the past 10-15 years. In general, if your daughter has no residual hearing in the worse ear, don't do AmpCROS. It should only be considered when there is some residual hearing remaining, and only for specific reasons, which include (1) maintaining stimulation of the auditory nerve so that it can still potentially benefit from a cochlear implant if that is ever a considering; (2) patients with significant tinnitus on the worse side (although some sound therapy systems in hearing aids, like the Widex Zen feature, are still effective by sending the signal through the good side even though perception of tinnitus is on the bad side); (3) patients with fluctuating hearing on the bad side (such as patients with Meniere's disease). These are just a few examples, but testing for binaural benefit should also be part of the audiologist's protocol for determining which is the best way to go: binaural hearing aids, traditional CROS technology, or AmpCROS.

Shame he has time to make these videos that a lot are his sponsors but he rarely reads all the comments or answers ones that could be life changing. I learn a lot from him but I see some comments I know for some people could be a life changer with the right suggestion but hear nothing but crickets...

I tried an AmpCROS setup and the HAs kept disconnecting from each other. It really took away from the utility of the solution.

Hi Doc, Since 43 days I’ve tinnitus and hearing loss in my right ear. It was after a concert. My normal hearing level is around 10db. And at 3khz I’ve a lost of 20 dB. At 4Khz I’ve 35 dB. My ENT says that I’ll totally recover from that as I’m very young. I’m only 19. I did the audiogram 4days after noise exposure so I don’t know if it has improved but I’ll do another one soon. My main question is : is it possible to recover from hearing loss due to noise exposure ? If yes, how many times will it take ? I’m thinking about doing HBOT, what do you think about it ? Sorry for the mistakes, English isnt my mother language.

I was born deaf in my left ear, my parents had my ear reconstructed in elementary school after the removal of a cyst. I had to undergo speech therapy. Fast forward to my 40’s it still effects me. I can hear about 70% yet my brain can’t understand all the sounds to meaning. Also the parts are too small, I get extreme ear pain in the wind, cold, when someone rolls down the car window, or even look at the ocean without pain. I wish they had left my ear alone. How do you fix the brain when it can’t understand the sound 🥺 how can I fix the terrible pain?

That likely depends on a variety of factors including wher you live, how good your provider isat the procedure, and how long it takes to complete.

It’s sad there are so many people especially at retirement age on on SS fixed income that not only have hearing problems but some complicated like Menieres and such and will never be able to afford aids or most audiologist to have a close to normal life. I saw two of my grandfathers go through that very thing back in the 1970’-80’s and it was rough. Seems like I am following in their tracks except possibly worse.

@@Epiccuber Is there any physical reason why you would lean towards the BAHA system (i.e atresia, ear drainage, etc.)? I generally find that CROS systems are more cost effective, and I only recommend BAHAs when physiologically someone can't where a hearing aid.

Scot Frink just that I have heard a lot of good things about it, insurance actually said yes to the surgery after the second try of seeing if they would cover it. And the Cros hearing aids aren’t covered by insurance, but if they said yes to the 30,000 dollar plus surgery, I at least want to try to get Hearing aids now though. I’m trying now to see if I can get the Med El non surgical baha OR the Cros hearing aids, or the phonak B50 D
