I want a black lighting comic book that focuses on just him. I’m not sure why This hasn’t been created yet. I love the television series and I would like more Black Lighting in comic book form. Batman and the outsiders was satisfying to me as a guy who wants to see more black superheroes.

I agree with you that Black Lighting powers have been changed overtime. I have a number of Black Lighting comic books in my all-black character comic book collection. I have early Batman and the Outsiders and the current Batman and the Outsiders comics. I think your assessment of the mental toll that his powers take on him is correct. I see Black Lighting as Batman's new moral compass without Alfred there. I also think DC has invested a great deal to promote Black Lighting as a moral compass. He is that in the TV show, he is that in Batman and the Outsiders and he was portrayed as such at the end of season 3 Young Justice on DC Universe. I did like his display of the new suit in action ( I actually made a poster of it). The bad thing is the Outsiders end at issue 17. So where do Black Lighting and Duke Thomas end up?

And yes if DC comics can do a better job explaining about The limits of Meta-Humans like the ranks and classes just like what Marvel comics do with mutants. We got the Ranks and the class about them it is really easy to know what mutants can do and how much energy and potential their can reach and hold. DC need to do a better job at it.

I think they do it simply so they don’t have to keep them locked in a certain category. For the most part when it comes to marvel comics a lot of the characters and maintain most of their abilities depending on how extreme they are, however, DC comics they tend to want to weaken and strengthen their characters whenever they feel.

@@AltFactuals well initially I thought it's bc our hair grows "out" and like an agro which resembles how other people's hair looks when they're electrocuted or when static touches it. But there's also an element of control. Electricity is used to do work and powers tools. Obviously I don't think comic writers are thinking this exactly when they make characters, but there is a long history of black characters reflecting the past and just being used to serve a purpose for no reward. Electricity is something we know how to control in society but if it runs loose, it's extremely dangerous and powerful. It's a good metaphor for how black people have been treated worldwide. Electricity is basically something very powerful but it is well studied and limited, so electrokinetic characters never reach the god like levels of Superman or WonderWoman. When they do, they look like Thor, not Storm or Static or Black Lightning.

That’s exactly what I think too. I think that DC was well aware that the TV show was coming so they NERFED his powers to kind of be a lot closer to what it was gonna be depicted as. But also I think the comic does provide a little bit of foresight into what the TV show might do when it comes to the development of his character.

Jeff needs to do more with his powers this season I feel like Jennifer gets all the attention. We need more fight scenes. Jefferson suit has more tech than a space shuttle so they need to build on that because so far there’s nothing special about his suit. Black Lightning has the dumbest weakness after u think about it. He can conjure lightning n expel it from his body, but he has a weakness to lightning. DC always has a way of nerfing original Black characters of power...Black Lightning at one point was said to be powerful enough to kill Superman, if he ever cut loose, but now has to worry about using his namesake. Tyroc, in his original incarnation in the LSH could do everything from fly and create forcefields, to teleport, to dimensional shift, to alter perceptions with his vocal powers, but now is a poor man's Banshee (from Marvel). DC either limits Black character's powers...or severely disfigures them as a trade off...like Cyborg. Why can't a brutha catch a break in DC?
