I learned 多谢 and 不好意思 from a drama so I’m glad to hear that people actually say them irl haha I’m just sometimes afraid when learning from TV that I’ll accidentally pick up a phrase that will make me sound like a drama character lol

You just have to be careful with historical dramas. It would be the same as learning English from Lord of the Rings etc./larping talk.

Besides 抱歉 there is also 道歉. I think 道歉 is a verb (“apologize”) usually used with 向[+person] (“to"+person) in a more formal or serious situation. For example: 我必须向邻居道歉因为我的狗咬了她的猫 ("I have to apologize to my neighbour because my dog bit her cat")

My students tell me it's like this. You bump into someone. "不好意思" You hit someone with your bicycle or scooter. "對不起" You hit someone with your car and come face to face with the next of kin. "抱歉" Seriously. I watch the news in Taiwan and politicians love to say 抱歉. They think it makes them sound sincere.
