Alternator replacement BMW 3 series 320i N43 e92

This is how I changed the alternator on my BMW 320i N43 e92. I am not a mechanic and take no responsibility for any damage or injury caused by anyone attempting this procedure. This video purely documents how I carried this procedure out on my car. Hopefully someone considering carrying out this task can use this video to learn what is entailed in the job. Can I get to, and replace my oil pressure switch by removing the alternator ie does it give me enough access?

alternator aluminium bolts aren't reusable?

I've no idea to be honest but I re-used my ones. I dont think they were aluminium from memory (but I could be wrong). Prob best to get new ones though if that's the procedure. I've had no problems since with this one.

What’s that tik ing sound that you said that is preatty commun?

It's a loud ticking or cracking sound which is very noticable in person if your standing beside the car while it's running. On mine it made a sound similar to a marble getting thrown against a glass window.

Sorry. On the green diagram I'm not sure because it was my e60 530d (since sold) and I just showed it as an example. In the video (the 3 series e92) I think the bottom right pulley is the air con, the one above it is just a pulley and the top one is the alternator (pretty sure that's right). Hope it helps.

Pretty sure it is. A good test is to look at it with the engine running and air con off (mine appears not to spin at that point). Then turn the air con on and look at it again (mine then is spinning at that point). That's how I determined it.

Its meant to be movin independently! Its called alternator clutch and bmw says to replace all 120t km! So your old one looks fine..

I thought that too but the replacement part did not behave the same way as the one I took out so I suspected a fault. Also it was making a terrible noise very loud. The old one was still charging the battery ok but something in there was broken.
