This song is honestly one of my favorite character themes by Toby Fox. Being that it's the only official song written for only Eridan (aside from OMGTSN's "Eridan's Theme" where he sung along to a piano about how "Eridan is not that great and he does not deserve a theme"), it really seems to capture him (and his storyline) really well. It starts off with a bang and a proud, upbeat tune that would fit any ambitious yet egotistic character. It also sounds like it has a bit of a nautical theme to it, which is great. The slower more waltz-like part about halfway through the song is more of his "hopeless romantic" side. It's a song that shows the few positive attributes to Eridan instead of his genocidal tendencies and nihilistic outlook, and the fact that this song plays during his last moments of real hopefulness in the comic is just excellent. Though it probably wasn't meant to do so, this theme really shows Eridan in a better light than what even most of his fans can say about him.

One of the reasons people hate eridan so much is the shitty portrayal of him constantly. He doesn't go weh or nyeh and doesn't act like a blubbering baby constantly, nor did he ask everyone to love him That is not only a bad portrayal but insulting to his character. He's also, sure, an asshole, but let's not forget that it was NORMAL for trolls to be like hat, high bloods especially! He was considered royalty blood wise and felt that he personally was responsible for the ocean and his view was that land dwellers were ruining it and he should destroy him. He didn't even really try, actually, and hating him because he killed kanaka and Feferi and half of sollux? is a shitty thing because of the fact that trolls killed each other all the time. Eridan isn't precious but he is definitely not the worst, and shouldn't be treated like crap for making bad decisions. Remember, he was fucking13, was put into situations he couldn't handle and at times he was scared and alone and nobody even cared

I find it rather questionable that people always talk shit about Eridan, claiming he had no reason to do the things he did. While the arguments could go back and forth until Homestuck ended and then some, what always confused me was that people seem to love Gamzee for the same reasons they hate Eridan. While I do like the clown myself, half the fandom seems to love him because of his homicidal, psychopathic tendencies and how he couldn't "Help himself" and how it was "Natural" because he was a highblood. Okay, fair enough. Highbloods are EXPECTED to murder and such. If that's the case...does everyone just magically forget that when concerning Eridan? If I can recall correctly, He was even HIGHER than Gamzee on the Hemospectrum. Of course HE was expected to be just as violent, if not MORE violent then him! But nope, everyone seems to respect Gamzee for it, but despise Eridan for just that. I feel as if the two get too much hate for the wrong reasons. To be honest, I find it impossible to exactly "Hate" certain characters in Homestuck, or any trolls. Every troll had their reasons for what they did and how they did it. Tragic or not.

I couldn't agree more. Actually, as much as I despised Eridan's choice to literally side with Jack Noir (if I remember correctly), I could understand *why* exactly it is when he made that choice. It may be, truthfully, ignorant to some, but I find that the reason why he chose to do this was because he shows that he had lost all hope in saving the world; he was contemptuously cynical in its utmost level. To be honest I'm, in a way, in that position, too, because I've suffered enough to understand how Eridan feels, despite him making his choices out of what seems to be his emotions. It could be suggested, though, that he *did* make his decision after thinking much about it, since it did hit me that he has done that, himself *and* with his emotions. That how I saw it and that's how I felt, albeit I also felt that there should be or is another way to go about doing this, as (I will play out of my memory) Feferi expressed. Yes, it is highly understandable that he is rather childish the way he handles things but eventually there will be things to come and changes to be made throughout the future. I may not be wholly caught up on Homestuck but I'm getting through it page-by-page and reading as carefully as I possibly can esp. retaining all of this information just to get by. I do express, however, that it is ironic of Eridan to go against what his God Tier would suggest; the Prince of Hope. I could have sworn, though, that he felt that maybe his God Tier isn't something he likes, or that he felt/thought that it could be something he is not, as if he didn't *have* to go with and/or by that title. He basically, from how I perceived it as, wanted to go against the tide; it's not always black and white for Eridan, and it doesn't have to be, for him. And I find that perfectly acceptable. As for Gamzee, I really don't have much of an opinion about him let alone much of real knowledge about this guy, so I really can't say much about Gamzee, unfortunately, or at least I haven't gotten in touch with his overall personality (despite his "mOtHeRfUcKiN' mIrAcLeS" shit he has going on). All I can say is that his "Highblood status" is mainly straightforward for his reason to go ultimately insane, although I question this when I see the first (or second? third?) conversation Gamzee had with Dave when he retorted that the reason why Gamzee went batshit insane into killing everyone was because of the ICP music video he showed him, pretty much telling me that Gamzee was taking this too "heavily"/seriously and putting such self-blame on his shoulders, therefore seemingly being childish about this by going literally insane into killing everyone on sight. That's my take on this, though, but I mostly agree with you.

David DeBroux Thank you for sharing your insights. Unfortunately, I cannot delve farther into the topic without getting into some spoilers. For example, his God Tier title is a rather unique play on words that you will later find out as you dive deeper and deeper into the story. But it's rare to meet a fan who doesn't hate and even understands Eridan's choices, and doesn't talk a lot of trash about him on sight. Honestly, I wish most of the fandom was this way. I cannot count the number of times I would be surfing KZbin, Homestuck Videos of course, and I come across a sea of Eridan hate comments. Always talking about the choices he's made and how he's just a piece of shit because of it. Which is funny, considering all the things other Trolls have done which could be considered just as bad, if not outright worse. Vriska up and created Bec Noir for the sole notion of wanting to defeat him herself, Gamzee murdered the meowrails, goes on a psychopathic rampage and causes massive problems for the group and kids later on...and everyone is specifically targeting Eridan? The irony always just kills me. I tip my hat to you, fellow fan.

Laziness got me to not respond, especially time amongst other things, but now I have the time to respond. As of now I just got to Act 6 and am continuing with it. But in that case of what you said, I really haven't seen comments like that. I might run into such things. Heck, I don't know. Also, people are different in their own way, but the hypocrisy that people do show (as you have stated thereof) is completely unavoidable. I don't know why, but I have some sort of empathy for him (as I have expressed in my response on your comment), although he's an antagonist. It's kind of weird, to me. I digress, I mostly see things in a shade of grey such as Eridan's situation, in example. But all-in-all, I view the webcomic series as rather interesting, rather hilarious and you can say uhm... "deep." It tends to poke fun at a lot of things and often do I see subtle and/or obvious puns (i.e. Doc Scratch, because for one he was made from the first scratch(?) or whatever it was called, and thus made as the... First Guardian? Ugh, trying to get these things right. And the fact that his head is in the shape of a cue ball, in which when it goes in one of the baskets in pool, it's considered as a "scratch"). I am still catching up, but since, again, I have gotten to Act 6, I feel that I am already getting close, real close. Yeesh, I speak a bit too much these days.

maggintons I'm curious on how he's even dubbed an antagonist. Yes, he killed two trolls and destroyed their single hope for keeping their race alive but Vriska killed Tavros and essentially created Bec Noir. Other trolls have done just as bad, if not outright worse things. Also, notice in ACT 6, he didn't seem to act in a manner that would portray a typical villain. No massive plannings, no destructive streaks or anything of that sort. He was sort of just there, semi-regretting how things turned out/and or living it out in the Dream Bubbles.

I swear to god I think I'm the only person that's noticed this, at least from the comment section, but for some reason this video, or maybe just the album version of Eridan's theme in general, sounds different than it does in luminantAegis's extended version. The difference is pretty subtle, it's kind of noticeable at the beginning but much more noticeable at the 1:56 mark. If you listen to those parts back to back you can definitely hear it, the version in the extended upload sounds a bit cleaner and more satisfying, in my opinion at least.

I think it is primarily because Eridan never got a chance to feel remorse. Even though Vriska killed Tavros and Aradia, she still said that she felt bad after the fact. Gamzee was insane and was calmed down in a nice friendship-y way by Karkat, and while that isn't technically remorse, it still showed his good side. Eridan was simply viewed as murdering everyone in sight until he was finally taken down. I feel for you bro *Aquarius for life*.

Eridan's classpect doesn't make him evil, people get classpects because of who they are. Eridan felt betrayed by Feferi when she got with Sollux and challenged him wanting to finally take him down with the wand he got from Kanaya. He did learn on LOWAA about his "job", and after killing Feferi for betraying him and lunging at him, he destroyed the matriorb because he also felt betrayed by Kanaya. He was kind of meant to be a villain more so than Gamzee, who's classpect was one of the most supportive ones in the game.
