I think it's the reverse. Gender IS real. Male is male and female is female. There is no 3rd gender. As from the hemospectrum thing, all the trolls are one race, the Trolls. Sure, they have different blood and different functions, but if they work together, they could be a prosperous society. Also, adults NEED to be there. They need to be in charge so that things can run and work. The children need to be in school and also enjoy their time before becoming adults. In short, gender IS real and the Trolls need a better society.

I think the point with Eridan is that he's a Prince of Hope, and they highlight this by him "destroying" his belief in a rigid, binary system of gender. However, him being an active class means he only destroys his beliefs whenever destroying benefits him. The hemospectrum benefits him directly, seeing as he is amongst the highest bloodcastes. The part of him railing against gender conformity is supposed to point out this contradiction. He destroys outdated beliefs about gender for his own benefit, but the hemospectrum allows him to destroy to his own benefit. Of course the contradiction only makes sense if you understand that sex and gender aren't the same, gender identity is more complicated than ones biological parts, and in fact most of gender is pure aesthetics: there are no biological reasons as to why men and women wear completely different clothes and aesthetics, there's no biological reason as to why shorter hair is considered masculine, etc. Much of gender is cultural, not biological. There is an arbitrary set of rules put in place as to what is and isn't acceptable behaviour for men and women, and not following these rules in most places makes you open to ridicule and harassment. Of course, culturally, in most places there is a binary. However all over the world there are various cultures that do in fact have a cultural idea of a 3rd gender: listverse.com/2015/10/21/10-examples-of-nonbinary-genders-throughout-history/ It is a mistake to think that trans, non-binary, gay and bi people are a recent thing. honestly as a big eridan fan and someone who's not really a fan of a lot of modern homestuck writing or how fans act about him i'm pretty happy with this ! i think they struck a really good chord with eridan here where his actions are reprehensible but they actually do make quite a lot of acknowledgement about the fact that eridan isn't even the big bad genocidal asswipe he's so intent on painting himself as - sollux's entire speech at the end i mostly adored _(one or two lines felt a bit off and generic and...... idk, twitter-person-y?? which is a problem with a lot of modern homestuck stuff for me, but most of it was really good imo)_ and i like that even the person who has the most reason to hate eridan of anyone outright says he doesn't even believe in the discriminatory garbage he spews off i guess i still don't agree entirely with the viewpoint taken of him here _(i still feel eridan is treated like he's somehow by far the worst of the trolls even next to gamzee and especially vriska and like...... i'm sorry, i like vriska more than eridan as a character, she's one of the two beta trolls i like over him, but she's absolutely no better than him on a moral level and i get tired of the fans who act like she is)_ but i think they largely did him _(and sollux here)_ justice, which is honestly relieving considering i'm so used to... well, what i just talked about in parenthesis, which i still feel was _kiiinda_ there but not to an egregious extent ! also, i admit literally as someone who DESPISES GENDER STIGMA and finds binary bs outdated af that i find a lot of the retroactive gender stuff with the og chars feeling a bit forced but like, march eridan has been around for ages, and while clothing doesn't mean jack about your identity i think it makes sense eridan would find stigma around gender to be kinda bullshit as he should ! and of course it worked as a really good juxtaposition with eridan's classist "beliefs" _(which on another note, i somehow never made the connection between eridan's fake belief in the hemospectrum and his title as a prince of hope..... well, i've talked about that in regards to his denial of magic before so MAYBE i did but like, guess it never hit me properly til now)_ overall, it's not perfect and i guess it still has the things that make me feel a bit sad with modern hs stuff, but i'm really glad they got a lot right with eridan and didn't take the purely-woobie route _(which was pretty much never a possibility given the writing team but still)_ or the HE IS SCUM NAZI INCEL route _(which i feared with how i've seen a lot of prominent people in hs now act)_ !

Yes, yes, *yes*. I don't have access to a computer and I've been meaning to give the Friendsims a look-see and gracious, I'm elated to see how fucking well balanced my fav character's is, especially after years in misinformed fandom. For one, the reader's dialogue isn't framed in a bias fashion towards Eridan (whereas a LARGE ass majority of the fandom will tell you they dislike him solely for fanon misconceptions). The reader treats him with the attitude that they give to all the other characters, and I *adore* that it resonates so well with actual fans of each individual character- and here is no exception! I couldn't help but keep chuckling at, in lack of better words, how much of a smug, conceded piece of pompous shit he is in the first ten or so minutes. Which is a very true reflection on his canon personality- due to his status and how it's drilled into him, (as it is with many highbloods from birth or I guess.. hatching) his superiority facade is flaunted, but it's also reflected on. The fact that Eridan admits that he feels the need to conceal his true character by being this gross caricature of snobbishness is speaks on levels to me. Him hamming up an incredibly idiotic conflict between him and Sollux shows us that he feels he *needs* to be this way- for one, due to him being used, comfortable even, with being hated due to his conjured haughtiness. And two, though he has incredibly impressive and commendable morals, (especially of how bullshit gender binary roles are used widely to oppress and control people by fitting them into restrictive and harmful stereotypes, even touching on how nonbinary folks have been apart of society since forever), no one would take him seriously as well.. he's racist as that one uncle at family gatherings we all try to avoid striking up convo with. Just because you advocate for one thing strongly doesn't redeem you for your other bigoted attitudes, especially one that is a large cultural + systematic factor that you fuel by hating a group of people from pure ignorance. To wrap this up, I love that after the reader gives it to Eridan how it is, he sincerely considers everything. He was genuinely understanding that his bigotries were making him the desperate, nearly socially inept tool he was and will find it in himself to change- not in the span of a few exchanges of dialogue, but over the course of serious self-reflection and learning. Eridan is a 13 year old born into privilege and wealth, and due to this, his unconscious tone is constantly degrading those underprivileged. TL;DR of this, your resident enby is delighted to see after eight years invested in a beloved series, genuine love go into their fav character's silly friend-date text based adventure. :'}💜

But nah, we got an Eridan who doubled down on the desperation and kinda removed a bunch of character which made me like them in the comic. Which... is how fanon has been treating em for years now. If it weren't for that ending which nailed EXACTLY what their problem was and how they could fix it, the route overall would've been 'meh-to-bad'. I would've definitely liked to see them feeding Feferi's lusus (Which I think they completely glossed over in the routes?), a nod to their friendship with Karkat to prove that they were all talk about blood stuff, or the fact that Eridan can definitely take 'No' for an answer.
