I've been in telecommunications for over 40 years, never really thought about RF PCB design until recently when I joined a group of radio amateurs that play with the high GHz stuff. Decided to check out these videos and I can say already my mind is blown. This is the coolest stuff!

Extremely useful material! What is the typical field produced by the Nickel layer in ENIG? Say a 30mm*40mm single layer board? Is there a way to estimate it?

Hello!! So instead of So instead of ENIG what to use?? Soft Gold finish? Or ENIG for solder pads and Solder Mask over bare copper???

This series is great and exactly what I've been looking for--this episode was worth it just for the offhand comment about the complications with ENIG (@ 22:35)! I would've liked to hear a bit more about the effect of solder mask in the embedded microstrip... my guess, from the discussion around the others, is that the mask will increase the dielectric constant above the stripline and heat loss (maybe making the wavefront a bit more uniform in the process? what of impact on radiated emissions?). Anyhow, thanks for these awesome vids.

If i had a 2 layer FR4 board of 1.6 mm thickness then line thickness would be somewhere around 3mm. how should i make it 50 ohm?
@DDas-yi6jr
@DDas-yi6jr 3 жыл бұрын
For 1.6mm thick FR4 which has an approx. 4.4 dielectric const , 3mm width will give you 50 ohm impedance www.emtalk.com/mscalc.php?er=4.4&h=1.6&h_units_list=hmm&f=2.4&Zo=50&EL=90&Operation=Synthesize&Wa=&W_units_list=Wmm&La=&L_units_list=Lmm

@@DDas-yi6jr if my IC has a PAD of 0.5mm then how do i do the transaction from 0.5 mm thickness to 3mm?
@DDas-yi6jr
@DDas-yi6jr 3 жыл бұрын
@@tejeshwvardhan1165 use tapering for transition, but if your ic pad is 0.5mm then don't use 1.6mm FR4 go for lower substrate thickness: 0.8mm FR4 which will give you a 50Ohm. Line width of 1.5mm OR 0.4mm FR4 0.75mm line width else matching and soldering the ic will be an issue

Avoid the math, cause u won't get paid for it. Unless you will be doing maybe the software or something. Basically it should work by the program if someone did the program 1st.
