The Altor pistol is a ...unique design that markets itself as a low cost self defense option. What it really is is a dangerous POS that shouldn't even be on the market. Let's go shoot this...thing with special guest Annette Evans of ‪@OnHerOwnLife‬ !

The difference is that the Liberator had a purpose. It was a propaganda leaflet made from stamped sheet metal. The Nazis legit had to send some grunt into the woods to collect the liberators that fell from the sky and I'm sure that was annoying to the enemy forces. This, on the other hand....

I've read a cyberpunk novel in which there was a REALLY cheap firearm, which was specifically made to commit suicide with. It was colloquially called "wednesday evening special" or something similiar. This is pretty much a real life version of that gun. A cheap firearm, that basically serves no practical purpose, except allowing the user to kill themselves with a shot to the head for only 100 bucks. Disturbing that some company made such a thing and tries to sell it...

@@massivepileupAll jokes aside, you should NEVER fire a warning shot in a self-defense situation, or you *will* almost certainly go to jail. This may sound absurd, but the state's logic is this: If you felt that your life was in imminent danger so much so that you decided to draw a firearm and discharge it at your (suspected) assailant, then the fact that you decided *not* to shoot the bad guy but simply to fire your weapon into the air or ground to scare him off means that your life *wasn't* actually in danger, and therefore, you had no legally justifiable reason to draw and discharge said firearm. There's also the problem that you are responsible for every bullet you fire downrange, and that the round you fire as a warning shot could travel quite far to strike an uninvolved and innocent party. You can still be legally held liable for shots you fire in a self-defense encounter which miss your intended target and hit innocent bystanders, even though you were trying to defend your own life and potentially those other people's lives as well. TL ; DR (for late millennial and gen Z functional illiterates): if you have to draw your firearm to fend off a bad guy, the time for warnings has already passed, and the only less-lethal option left to you is whether you squeeze that trigger or not. And if you do squeeze that trigger, try to actually hit your intended target, not just attempt to scare him with the flash and report of the shot, unless you want to end up potentially dead or behind bars.

I read a novel many, many years ago set during the English Civil War, in which the hero joined a unit of the Royalist cavalry. He was given a brace of expensive "snap-haunce" pistols by his father, which actually had rifled barrels. Loading it involved using a wrench to unscrew the barrel, and balancing the ball on a nipple (after pouring in a charge of powder) before screwing and tightening the barrel back on top of the ball. Not only were these things single shot, they were practically impossible to reload while on horseback. Imagine losing the wrench. This pistol reminds me of that book.

I don't recommend Annette's loading procedure, because it can cause an ND. If you lock the trigger to the rear using the safety, then disable the safety and let the trigger fall, it will detonate about 50% of the time - if the barrel is off or in the fire position. And the barrel rotates really easily from safe to fire, so that's an easy mistake to make. Instead, and I can't believe I'm saying this: I recommend engaging the safety, then pulling the trigger a little bit. Even if you mess up and pull the trigger all the way back to the safety stop and release, it is less likely to detonate than Annette's way. It goes back a bit less far and the firing pin gains less energy. In my testing I'm not able to get a primer to go off that way.

I get the feeling that a spring you pull out the back and release, like a slingshot, would work better.
@cokedaz

What has been noted in other videos on this, because of the pull back trigger, it means you cant even have your fingers high enough on it so you have a weird pinky grip which makes it hard to hold and fire and it not want to fly out of your hand. This thing has completely no benefit other than the price over literally any other lethal barrelled weapon. Regardless of the horrible safety issues, if this at least had a normal trigger it could be fun as a novelty item only, but this I think is the only case where I believe no gun is better than this. Would you want a live round in this in your pocket? Would you be able to take it off safe and fire it accurately quickly? Surely a 2nd hand hi point or a single shot shotgun can be got with the same money? This might be fine if it was $25 but at 100 its crazy as it offers nothing.

@@MarvinCZ As a close up point blank pistol, the liberator is manageable. And the ‘hand hurting” from the sheet metal clam shell design can be solved with grip tape. I would take a liberator over this thing any day.
@MarvinCZ

@_The_Dragon I wouldn't take either if there was almost anything else available, but the Liberator is worse in most regards. Possibly manageable, but worse. You'd have to use the Liberator at a range where even a knife is better.

It seems like the designers of the Altor pistol *deliberately* sought to engineer the worst firearm humanly possible. It's like they looked at the Zip-22, and said to one another, "hold my beer--I bet we can make something even worse!" Not only did they come up with a handgun whose ergonomics were clearly not intended for a human hand, but they also had to design it to operate with a rather complicated, extremely fiddly, and -somewhat- *downright* terrifying loading procedure to boot. And since the frame appears to be made out of cheap, lightweight polymer, you also get a pistol that will be quite snappy when shooting cartridges like 9x19mm. As for its price, I'd say that it's $95 more expensive than it should be. That piece of junk isn't worth more than $5 tops, maybe $15 if you factor in the cost of the materials used in its construction. In a way, it saddens me that people actually spent time, money, resources, and intellectual effort designing and manufacturing something like this which serves absolutely no utility. We already live in an era of increasingly strained resources and rampant plastic pollution, and we certainly don't need even more useless plastic junk to add to the already towering landfills! The only good thing I can think of to say about that Altor pistol is that if you are ever assailed by a criminal armed with one, you'd be reasonably safe as his chances as his chances of actually hitting you with it or even being able to successfully discharge the weapon under stress are probably lower than if he were armed with a 14th century handgonne like the one which Karl demonstrated in another video some time back. That matchlock handgonne is actually a safer, more ergonomic, and far easier to use firearm than this thing. That said, because I have a slight tendency towards masochism and ghoulish curiosity, I find myself wanting to try out an Altor pistol to see just how bad it is. My interest in this is similar to the sentiment that compels you to sniff something that your buddy tells you stinks horribly, just to see how nauseating the stench really is, heh. I do take Karl's and Annette's word for how horrifically bad the Altor is, but there's part of me that just is itching to see for myself, though I have no intention of spending $100 (plus the taxes and transfer fees) of my own hard-earned money on this. If I wanted to blow $100+ on something useless, I'd just hit up the nearest liquor store or cannabis dispensary, because at least the booze or weed would leave me feeling giddy for a few hours. Shooting an Altor, by contrast, would just leave me feeling frustrated and depressed.

I was going to say that I can think of only one very specific use for this thing. Not as a backup pistol, but as the pistol you keep tucked away, for the end... what I mean is, if you're in a situation where someone is about to steal your life from you, you whip this out for one lest attempt at taking them to hell with you. Or, alternatively, using this thing to put yourself out of your misery if you're in a situation where you're suffering, and have a 100% chance of dying. But then I realized there's a gun that's better for both of those purposes... The Bond Arms cyclops. It's less bulky than this, but fires a single .45-70 round, which I think we can all agree, would be light-years better for the applications I mentioned above.
