Thank you so much! What do you think we should improve on the most?
@aqua408911 ай бұрын
@@Altremer Oh, wasn’t expecting a response haha. Personally I think some of the styles clash with each other somewhat, so working in the transition from one to the other so it isn’t as sudden, and perhaps avoiding fast or unnecessary switching between styles. Some scenes look very detailed in 3D, others are 3D with 2D, there’s the main political map, the more local map showing forests and villages and the individual scenes that aren’t of one particular style. The variety is obviously unavoidable due to the collaborative nature of the project, but I think they can be integrated better. The main political map is awesome in its detail and readability, many maps tend to focus a lot on details and end up sacrificing readability because of it. But I do dislike a bit of the look of the map, it feels a lot like a mobile game map, the terrain effects are fine but could be better, the edges feel odd, kind of like if they were made of a reflective cut crystal or something, the water doesn’t feel like it belongs in the style of the rest of the map and could use more variety if you are going for the realistic water look, as not all of the waters around Europe look the same, there are different colors, like in EUIV for example. The dialogue parts feel a little stiff, I think something that would make them feel more dynamic is more variety in the character stills and animation so when they are talking it feels more like in a visual novel and less like the silhouette just gets brighter when the character is talking. I do see some of those stills I mention being used, Louis is the one I felt was more animated, but Theobald felt much stiffer and I feel as though he barely if ever changed expressions or positions while talking. And I just want to say something, thank you for responding not only so fast, but thank you for responding at all. I’m glad the project is being done in such a way that the team feels comfortable asking for feedback, that shows you care about the quality of the project and how to improve, hope my observations are useful. Edit: I just read your channel’s description, and wow, just five artists? It’s a pretty good job for having such a small team, especially considering that each one probably does their own part. Don’t overwork yourselves too much, and if the project’s format and budget allows you try to get some more staff to lower the workload.

Love it ( sadly the KZbin probably killed the series already ), my only criticism is: 1) The characters speak in the Shakespearean info-dumps for the sake of the viewer, which I think would be better left for the narrator. 2) We need a way to understand what is a real history and what is a diversion. As right now I'm wondering "is it a real tournament?", or a local king wants more "Prestige" to pass "High Crown Authority" law. =)

So, I respect what this video and series are going for and trying to do, I don’t think you can any that anyone working on this was not trying their absolute hardest to bring the vision to life as best they can… but I think this needed another redraft before it was made public. The first issue is the framing and setting. There’s a lot of stuff thrown at the audience that they’re just not given the proper time to fully take in. And if the intended audience is Cody’s regulars of History super fans, I don’t think that’s as much of a problem but if this is meant to try and reach a more mainstream audience, I think you’ll run into a lot of issues. Like when Theo and Philip are talking about their wives, for example, I can see a lot of people being confused as to what it is they’re badmouthing each other for. I just think you needed some more expositional setup to introduce people who aren’t that familiar to this setting and these characters as it really does feel like you’re thrown headfirst into it with no time to adjust. And especially when the title teases an alternate fourth crusade, this can seem like a lot of unnecessary background information for no reason. The second is the presentation. Now, the overhead Paradox like map view is spectacular, I have no problems with that and comment the artists for that entirely. Same with the 3D fights, while not perfect, I think you got as much out of those as you possibly can. Same with the graphics like the Historia Civilis view and the tourney matchup… But I think the anime visual novel style choice for most of the dialogue just doesn’t work. There occasions where the dialogue and voice lines don’t fully match up or there are spelling mistakes in this video, but those can be fixed. What I think is the bigger problem is that it makes these characters feel more stilted and unemotive than they’re supposed to. This style works for a lot of VNs but I don’t think it works here. Something like the art style for the “Dance of the Dragons” extras on the GOT DVDs would probably have worked better. Still images of the characters holding for a few seconds then a second frame showing a different expression and so on. Idk, something like that but I just don’t think the VN style works here. The third issue, and I do feel bad about even bringing this up, is the voice acting. It’s not that anyone does a bad job, it’s just that they’re clearly American. And their voices just clash so hard with the attempt to capture a medieval tone and aesthetic. Cody is the exception to this but maybe I’ve just been listening to him for so long I’m just used to him, idk. And I really don’t think you can do anything about this but as I’m listening to this video, I am painfully aware of the fact that I’m listening to people read lines and not characters speaking. Again, I do appreciate the talent that’s gone into making this and when the series is finished, I’m sure that these issues won’t matter nearly as much when the whole breadth of the project can be seen in full but for now, these issues do stand out to me and prevent me from enjoying it as much as the team clearly enjoyed making it. ://

Like im gonna come off hard, but as much as this work is genuinely amazing, the music outstanding, the voicing, the art style, the animation is just unbelievably great, i just found this to be full of fillers, you could've cut a lot of scenes and parts to assure a dynamic continuous story or you could've gone for a full on narration style which would've been less costly, the miss maching of both styles doesn't really work well for me, the video kinda feels like it doesn't know what it wants to be And believe me as harsh as this sound i find this incredible and i appreciate the great effort the team has put in, with great motivation, but to me at least, it feels like when someone puts such genuine and pure enthusiastic effort with great technical abilities, but it gets corrupted by an unclear vision or by not reaching the audience well
@Altremer11 ай бұрын
Thank you for this amazing comment. What our team wanted to do with Altremer is create a series or even entire world, with characters who have their own motivations. As you mentioned an alarming level of hard word and dedication was put into this project, especially when it comes to research and writing. The vision is clear, but it is: #1 Expensive to fill every frame with engaging content, hence why we relied on video game footage (Something which in hindsight might have been a bad call) #2 Takes a long time to come together. For a story to truly be engaging and memorable it cannot begin and end within a single episode. Regardless we have taken note of everything that worked and everything that didn't and will strive to make this series stand out as a truly original and entertaining piece of media.
@theasl_211 ай бұрын
I'd have to agree here. I actually like some of the video game footage (the overfly of Jerusalem was great for example) much more than the meaningless chatter or fighting or whatnot, which doesn't seem to add anything to our understanding of what is actually going on. It felt like this could be 15 minutes instead of 40 and still convey the exact same information and feelings. Maybe it's just a bit too...different from what is usually on this channel. It's certainly a different way of telling a story, and just as valid, and as with everyone else I can tell that a ton of effort and hard work went into it.

@@Altremer Well, I like the fact that I get to know the historical figures I never know before. And of course, I like that typical "the youth refused to listen to an elder's wisdom" trope that happened between the French King and Theobold as well because I wanted to see Theobold falls on his knees after he realized that his uncle was right all along in the future episode. And may I know what is the stopping point in this series? The point is that continuing this to the Victorian Era might be very hard. After all, the survival of the Roman Empire in this world means Britain will have harder time protecting its interests in India due to an alliance between the Roman Empire and Moscow. Not to mention that the Protestantism in this world might be more influenced by what the Orthodox Church considered as heretical such as the Montanism and Paulicianism. Plus, this means Egypt will become the independent Christian Kingdom in North Africa with heavy French influence. If they decided to go for Egypt immediately with all men that showed up and not even attacking the Dalmatian coasts, of course. But the point here is that eventually, the Roman Empire will become stronge once again. And when it did retake Anatolia back from the Turkic Beys, Egypt and the Levant will be the next targets of military expansion. So in a way, a clash between the Latin Crusaders and the Orthodox Romans are inevitable. It is merely prolonging it by going to Egypt as originally planned. But as that was happening, Iran is reunified. Either under the House of Timur or the Safavid, the Crusaders might be willing to seek an alliance with the rising Islamic Iranian Empire in the east to preserve Egypt's independence, thus sparking the first Roman-Persian War ever since the time of Emperor Heraclius and Shah Khosrow II. And if the Timurid ruler or the Safavid Shah emerged victorious and the Romans' advance is checked at the cities such as Aleppo or Antioch, status quo will returned for the time being with the Roman Empire, Iran and Egypt being the major powers in the Middle East. Back to Britain, I can see that its allianced with Morocco and Portugal will be taken more seriously in this timeline. And to prove this, the Tudor monarchs who converted to Protestantism most likely will given support to the Moroccan Sultans in the expansion eastward to bring the entirety of the Maghreb under one banner in order to prevent a war between Morocco and Portugal with the ultimate aim of forming the Triple Alliance with England being the glue that held this alliance together. So as soon as the influence of Egypt's Catholic ruling elites began to wane, Britain will most likely encouraged Morocco to conquer Egypt and make it part of the Moroccan Sultan's domains. By doing so, Britain will have a bastion to protect its interests in India by the time of the Victorian Era. I don't know if the Triple Alliance will still be a thing at that point or not, though. But what I know is that by the 19th century of this world, the Roman Empire will most likely become the Sick Man of Europe that heavily relying on Moscow while the Empire of Brazil might be considered by Britain as a potential ally.

I can see a lot of work went into this but the dramatization elements dont work for me I prefer a dryer telling of events.

A story of such quality and historic caliber that the History Channel could never hope to match, even with their 'professional' budgets. Great work to Cody, the artists, and everyone involved on this project!
