*Note:* This is a repost. My experience with the standard 2017 Africa Twin (manual transmission). The Honda Touring windshield works well - better than the OK stock screen. In Winter you really notice the taller Honda brand Touring windshield. The only thing with this Touring windshield is you do get side wind on your arms. IMO - *The engine power is plenty...* at least for me in the city & short highway use (who want to ride the highway and miss great sights -take the back roads). I rarely need to use 5th gear and 6th gear get used once a month. IMO - The side stand on the Africa Twin works well. One of the best I have used. In dirt & muddy conditions it has never not worked. Sand?? I have not used the bike in but I think the stock side stand would work - it has a wide footprint. IMO - The tires are fine for the road & OK for light off road. If you will ride off road medium to hard (AND DEEP WATER CROSSINGs) I would highly recommend the Honda CRF250L or CRF450L. The Africa Twin is too heavy for medium to hard off road use ****unless you're an expert.**** I have own BMWs GS650Fs & BMW 1150 plus other bikes and the Honda Africa Twin is one of the best bikes I have owned (stable, great engine, comfortable, nice looks). In reliability the Africa Twin IS the best.
@AnyMotoUSA6 жыл бұрын
I own a 2016. Sporting some MOTOZ tractionator rubber currently, awesome tires for aggressive off pavement riding. Pretty much stock except for crash protection (altrider), skid plate, wind screen extender thingy, heated grips and throttle lock. I LOVE THIS BIKE, for touring, adventure, commute, whatever. I put 12k on the bike since March if that tells you anything.
@sweetcostarica87146 жыл бұрын
@@AnyMotoUSA I had my bike since March 2018, so in 9 months I have 1,100 US miles on it. So I use it once or twice a week for shopping & commuting. Definitely not as much as you *Anjin Rider.* I fell asleep on the very comfortable bike once after working for nine (9) nights at work (10 hour shifts). I hit a big plastic trash can & woke up on uneven ground at the side of the road & just let the front wheel straighten itself up by holding the handle bar loosely. The Honda Africa twin, to my surprise did not crash but is so stable recovered itself by rolling over bumps & large cracks back to the street. *Damage:* very slight uneven handle bars, completely broken right side stock hand guard, & a very small, hard to see dent in the muffler. So this Honda AT is a winner. Not only does it look good but it will forgive stupid behavior & save you.
@AnyMotoUSA6 жыл бұрын
@@sweetcostarica8714 holy crap glad you're ok. And yeah, I too think this bike is a winner as far as durability. Btw, if you're user name suggests anything I wouldn't blame you for not riding a whole lot in Costa Rica, I hear traffic is nuts down there. But I'd bet there's plenty of dirt to play in 🤠

Could it be the Intake Control Valve in the exhaust that keeps the water from flooding the combustion chamber? I have an AT AS 2020 and when I start the motor, the 2 little exhaust holes in the muffler both pump air at idle. SO I'm wondering whebn the ICV kicks in? Or is it always on? Or is it the choke?

How good is the Africa twin on the road?
@AltRiderLLC6 жыл бұрын
It’s a viable street bike, but it with long suspension travel and a Honda deliberately designed it with off-road capabilities so it certainly has compromises. Although its not bad for longer rides, unlike many BMW bikes, it really was designed with a bit of an off-road focus. Just like with any bike its not going to be great at all things...
