I dunno about this one, I think the connections you're drawing on are tenuous at best. I'm all for some speculation about larger themes drawn from things that were only alluded to, and yet, despite my adherence to the ideas of La mort de l'auteur, Martin's intent still has a substantial influence on what I see as "proper" means of interpretation. In conclusion, show small, book big.

I tend to strongly disagree with Roland and some of the ideals he outlined. I believe there is much to be said about the intrinsic link that any artist shares with their creations. John Donne comes to mind as a poetic author whose work can still be appreciated by anyone with complete ignorance as to who he actually was, but investigating the context of his life can lead to such a greater understanding of his work. I think whether or not the artist intended it to be viewed in such a lens is arbitrary; the audience should and can extrapolate some higher meaning that makes the art impactful or relatable to them, generally leading to a greater appreciation of said art. Art can always be related to the context of its creation, in whatever form that might take. The artist can often be our conduit into understanding the art, in attempting to take the artist out of the equation we are essentially placing the art in a void; free from all sociocultural, spiritual or environmental context. Maybe there is art that benefits from such an arguably pure interpretation, but if so it is a minority. Game Of Thrones is not an artwork that fits this category, as knowledge of GRRMs life and background gives an overarching understanding of the message he is trying to convey and what ideals he is trying to impart onto the audience. When comparing this to D&D, who simply adapted his original work, we can see that the passion of the artists are very different and have resulted in two creations with an incredible difference in quality. The main factor here being that GRRM cared about his writing and his message, D&D did not. In conclusion, D&D smol, George R. R. Martin big.

Preston cannot see farther than his own feet. He is ignorant of the symbolical meaning of the books. Instead he just focuses on the literal word. One example would be his Quentyn lives theory, which makes no sense when you take the symbolical meaning into account.
@michaelhenry32342 жыл бұрын
@@larochejaquelein3680 You're just not enlightened enough to accept Preston into your heart. I'm sorry for your loss. In all seriousness, what'd you think of his latest Brienne series? I think his thematic analysis was excellent.
@tokevarvaspolvi89992 жыл бұрын
@@larochejaquelein3680 To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Preston Jacobs. The analysis is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of GRRM's wider œuvre most of the points will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Preston's existentialist outlook, which is deftly woven into his theorization- his personal philosophy draws heavily from continental idealist literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of this analysis, to realise that it's not just well-informed and insightful- it says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Preston Jacobs truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Preston's existential catchphrase "I'm probably wrong about half of this," which itself is a cryptic reference to Essays by Michel de Montaigne. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Preston Jacobs' genius wit unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Sweetrobin tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they've read through the books multiple times (preferably fewer times than me) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
