They were different in the sense that Gandulf's had purpose beyond protection. He was a game changer. Where as Hodor was merely a soldier, a good soldier no doubt but a soldier. Therefore a honored hero for duty in the name of the realm.

soooooo after tonight's episode Sam said Summer JUST ended as him and his wife/gf/baby momma went to his home. He talked about watching the leaves change to beautiful colors at his home.....even with the Symbolism, the actual time frame of the seasons isn't Winter yet?
@darthcarnage128 жыл бұрын
I’m actually pretty pissed about Summer’s death. Leaf destroyed a ton of wights and slowed them down with fire, Hodor held the door to let Bran get away, but Summer just needlessly charged into a swarm of wights to be taken out like a chump without making any real contribution. First Shaggydog is eliminated like it’s nothing, which sucks but can be forgiven since there’s a lack of a strong connection to him and it seems plausible that a savage beast like him could just be put down, but Summer absolutely deserved better (he’s a smarter wolf than that). The show’s always devalued the direwolves but this one really bothered me.
@Orthos48 жыл бұрын
Agreed, the Show doesnt really care about the Direwolves... I mean half of the Direwolfes were cut down and then never mentioned again.
@sertwentyofhousegoodmen47478 жыл бұрын
It's a fucking Direwolf, all they do is bite things. What a loss! -_-
@darthcarnage128 жыл бұрын
Garth Moriarty The show’s portrayal of the direwolves allows comments like this to exist. In the books the direwolves give warnings for everything bad that happens to the Starks (Bran’s fall, the Red Wedding, Jon’s death, etc). Rob’s allows the Northern army to win a devastating victory by finding a secret path to the Lannister army at Oxcross. Arya’s leads a massive wolf pack in the Riverlands. Jon’s discovers the cache of dragonglass. Then there’s the warging; the show has shown Bran warging, and he’s the best at it in the books, but Arya and Jon have both warged into their wolves. All this is just scratching the surface. I like both the show and the books for different reasons and I like some things on the show better, but the direwolves are soooo much cooler in the books and it’s a shame that didn’t translate, resulting in things like Summer’s throwaway death.
@matthewpaddon38958 жыл бұрын
The show doesn't rly tend to elaborate on things. Summer's death was, unfortunately just a way to symbolize that summer was over and that winter had finally arrived. :(
@matthewpaddon38958 жыл бұрын
I also think he's death was a way of trying to sever the ties between Bran and the Stark name, since Bran has now assumed the mantle of the three eyed raven.

Varys and Petyr Baelish are easily my favorite characters on the show (since they "offed" STANNIS THE MANNIS T_T). Everyone is usually fans of Daenarys, Jon, or Tyrion (whom I also love, but seems underutilized in the show right now) but those characters bore me. Too bland. Varys and Petyr are behind the scenes and have will have a huge impact on events to come (hopefully). Conleth Hill and Aidan Gillen do not get enough credit for their roles.

I said this on another persons video review but I think the only reason we saw leaf in the creation scene was for familiarity, to sort of establish a connection between the time periods. This happens often in cinema whereas you wouldn't need to do this in the books. She could very well be two hundred in the books but for ease of connection and familiarity, they made leaf principle in the scene.

Hodor's life purpose was to hold the door. He got the premonition believe Bran was even born, and it profoundly changed. At least twice, Bran is the wind that knocks over a house of cards. The catalyst to war is Bran being pushed from the tower, and it's Bran that accidentally informs the white walkers to his location. It could be said that these incidents are Bran's fault, but it could also be said that both circumstances are so loosely held together than something would eventually cause them to topple over. Fate intended for this to happen or else Hodor would not have received the vision that would ultimately become his identity until he fulfilled it.

“You won’t be here forever, you won’t be an old man in a tree” the three eyed raven said, which means he knew all of the causality effects made by Brans choices.He probably knew that he would receive the mark, and that they couldn’t stay (the raven didn’t seem surprised by the mark) - he didn’t warn Bran to dig deeper into the past of the white walkers purposely, or the events that would lead to Hodors death, because those events had to occur! In addition, if the mark alone was required to tear down the wall - why didn’t the night king just grab any ranger beyond the wall then let him go to traverse back to the other side. Someone has theorized that most likely being a Stark has something to do with it. Maybe that explains Benjen's disappearance. He was probably mark'd but knew better than to head back to the wall. In fact a redditor has theorized that the White Walkers/Others have been zoning in on Starks, in the prologue of the first book the WW gang up on Waymar Royce expecting like a tougher fight and when they realized it isn't who they think it was (hinted at being Crastor letting them know) they mock him and kill him quickly.

That could explain why the Night King was focused on Jon during the battle at Hardholme. But I assumed that the only way he could mark Bran was through the vision but I guess he could mark them in the real world.
@SaneMillennial8 жыл бұрын
And I think whoever they mark has to be at least a warg, or even a greenseer so they could do it in the visions. Also seems it's having the Stark blood too.
@ComanderScar8 жыл бұрын
the mark probably isn't that simple. It probably is 1) has more to do with greensight rather than just touching someone or 2) Might require Stark blood. Maybe Benjen was marked and that's one of the reasons he didn't come back, but there would have to be more reasons because why wouldn't he just tell a brother of the night's watch to meet him north of the wall. And to counter the argument that there usually is a Stark at the Wall, the WW's just reemerged so it makes sense that only Bran (and possibly Benjen) have been targeted.

I find way too many people not realizing what actually happened with Hodor. Not the whole time travel part but that Hodor didn't sacrifice himself to hold the door so Bran and Meera could be saved, but that Bran sacrificed Hodor for those reasons.
@Midorikonokami8 жыл бұрын
That' s not how I saw it. I think Hodor used Bran as a conduit. Hodor's eyes go first, and the way I saw it, Hodor wargs into _himself_ through Bran, cycling forever in his life as a quiet giant who will die and relive his life, all in order to save the one sweet boy who is his friend. So tl;dr - Hodor is currently immortal, forever cycling a horrible life of knowing exactly like he'll die, dying and then cycling back into his younger self the moment he does. The most interesting thing about this is that the time-travel in this universe is like the one in Harry Potter world - a continuous loop, so that if something did not happen, it cannot happen, because it has not happened.
@Bazzyboss8 жыл бұрын
Wait, what? Which Hodor warged into which? Hodor wasn't willing to move without Bran Warging him. He was literally just panicking in the corner stuck and confused. If he wanted to save his friend, why would he need to warg into himself? Why not just run and go help Bran?
@ShivaShadowsong8 жыл бұрын
What @Bazzyboss said. Hodor may be a giant and a lethal juggernaut while controlled by Bran, but he's a big mentally damaged wuss on his own, as sad as that is. He's afraid of thunder, he restrains himself from any kind of violence, even when his or his friends' lives are in danger (i.e. when they were captured at Craster's Keep), etc.
@Bad_Moon_Rising8 жыл бұрын
This is the way all time travel should be depicted. Every point of view along the timeline should have equal merit.
@Sir-Raph8 жыл бұрын
The way I saw it: Bran's mind was with Willis in the 'Past', while Present day Hodor was in panic. Then Bran essentially bridged Willis and Hodor's minds into one, warging through SPACE TIME and creating a PARADOX. Which for all intents and purposes restored Hodor's broken mind; Allowing him to remember both his life as Hodor (his friends and their quest) AND as Willis, up until hearing his prophetic name/command to ''Hold the Door''. Then, with his consciousness stuck in a paradox, the death of his physical self in the 'Present' sends a ripple effect through space time, which proves too much for young Willis's mind causing it to snap.
@utubeisCensorred8 жыл бұрын
The Hodor scene really got me. It was really, well done. I agree that Bran isn't changing time... and I don't like the idea of him being an influence on the Mad King.. because that's part of their blood line. I also don't like the idea that Bran is behind everything in Westeros. That's just silly. It only had such an impact because he was around HODOR in the past and Present. There is no way to be around the Mad King in the present. Nice call on Little Fingers psychology. I also wasn't impressed with the actor of Eeron. He seems like an aged frat boy, not a sweet swaggering pirate. Oh well.

I heard of a really interesting story about the mad king. Hodor always repeated his phrase "hold the door" - what if the mad king did exactly the same with "burn them all"? Maybe the three eyed raven - a targaryen by himself - tried to help his family by telling them to burn the white walkers, which led Aerys to get mad because the raven did something wrong or underestimate his powers. So now he tried to get Bran to a point from which he can use his powers right - but he ended up, killing Hodor.
@a17zazueta218 жыл бұрын
theory.... hodor warged into his future self. thats why it was only after young hodor's eyes went like brans and the three eyed ravens then future hodor started to cry and you could hear his audible struggling at first then young hodor he accepted what he was doing and got focused and determined. which is why young hodor fades off at the end of the episode it shows future hodors life leaving him leaving him brain dead

The thing that struck me most back when I first watched this episode as new as far as the Faceless Men... granted I'm going off only the show, not the books, but I'd gotten the impression when we were first introduced to Jacquen Hagar and the FM that there was a sort of nobility to them, a righteousness. They helped deliver true justice in a corrupt world, and Arya would be proud to train with him and become one herself. Except, now what feels like to me to be kinda disappointing, they don't seem to operate by some special, sacred code AT ALL. That they'll kill the Person B that Person A wants them to take out just because Person A's check cleared. They'll kill whomever you want so long you can pay.

I think bran and blood Raven are the same person. The older wiser one is just trying to teach the young not to make the same mistakes he did. But it seems bran is making he same mistakes over again. Which is why they are stuck in a loop until one version of bran finally rights all the wrongs he made in the past and finally be on path again. Also bran is the one who caused the mad King to go mad and telling him to burn all the walkers, however Jamie heard it wrong and he thought he meant burn all the humans. That's why Jamie had to kill him.
@AHOLEtv8 жыл бұрын
You're close on TV Bran and Bloodraven but the book clearly states that Bloodraven is a Targ bastard and former Nights Watchman. I do think on TV that Bran is present Bran getting thought by future/past Bran who got stuck in the past and was forced to live through the ages to re-teach himself. This is possible because the show says Bloodraven is 1000 years old so he's defiantly not the same as Mr. Rivers' Bloodraven from the books.
@HYP1628 жыл бұрын
Blood Raven is a Targaryen bastard so he can't be Bran

The show said he has seen a thousand years of history, not necessarily means he's a thousand years old. When you have a power like greensight and can't do much in the Land of Always Winter, why not go back and watch history unfold beneath you? While it would be nice for Bloodraven to be a future Bran, it doesn't make sense when you compare a young Bran timeline. It simply doesn't work, he's still Brynden Rivers on the show.
@SaneMillennial8 жыл бұрын
The three eyed crow, however, someone pointed out could be Bran though, as in his dreams Jojen says you can't kill the crow because he's you. But bloodraven is not the same thing as the crow probably.
@brianstorey69388 жыл бұрын
I don't blame Bran for what happened. I blame the 3-eyed raven. Raven didn't explain how warging works (what Bran can do, the dangers) except for some vague metaphor about drowning. He then baits him with secrets only to take them away (exactly what was the point of Raven bringing Bran to the tower of Joy except to tease him.) Finally, he leaves a kid, a crippled kid, in a dark cave with nothing to do except maybe USE MAGIC TO BE LITERALLY ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME but no that's forbidden. Has Raven never been around kids? Raven seems to suffer from Wise Council Syndrome in which old authority figures claim to have experience and wisdom but are easily fooled/defeated/manipulated. See the Jedi Council in the prequels or the Guardians of Oa.

I've said this about everywhere now. Shouldn't the very first lesson Bran had from Bloodraven have gone something like "hey, if you happen to run into some blue dude, don't let that prick touch you because we will all be fucked if he does." It makes no sense. --Summer and Hodor being killed just reaffirms that Bran is running parallel of The Last Hero. I am sick of people bitching about CG budgets. It's because of direction, not budgets. It also means that Meera's future is not looking too bright. --One more complaint. Why does Brienne still have part of House Starks sword? She should have given that steel back. I don't give a fuck who gave it to her, it's not hers to keep. Plus, if Jon gave House Mormont their sword back, I would bet they would be pretty excited to join the cause. Jon take Oathkeeper, renames it Icicle or something else stupid and BAM! things start to head in the right direction. What the fuck is she doing! She should rename the sword finders keepers.

Have you even watched this season? The Bloodraven couldn't tell Bran about the Nights King because everything was leading to the exact point. The Nights King HAD to touch Bran. It's like destiny. It had to happen so that Willis could become Hodor and he would hold the door. It's an infinite loop. If the Bloodraven told Bran about the Nights King then there would be like some time paradox shit going on.

This isn't the same Damphair from the books. Hell, I doubt he's even Balon's brother on the show. This is just some important Drowned Priest who just shares the name "Aeron". Yeah, but here's something potentially messed up - just before the fall Cersei, mid-coitus, opens her eyes and looks directly at him, which then leads to him slipping and Jaime then pushing him. Some people speculated that BR made this happen in order for Bran to have his accident as that was required to open his third eye. What if it's actually Bran who goes back, hoping to prevent the accident, tries talking to himself, but instead Cersei hears the whisper, opens her eyes and the rest is history.
