Күн бұрын

This week the new aluminium fuel tank finally arrives and I get it installed.
So so glad to have a fully functional truck again.
Lets get on with some boat work!
Full disclosure, I paid full retail for the tank.
The tank was made by Pangolin 4X4.

LOL dropping that tank reminds me of the time I removed the 75-lb. transfer case from my old '87 Chevy V20 pickup in subzero temps while lying on a sheet of ice. I can't complain, really, because at least I could then bring it inside my nice warm house to rebuild it. At first I was annoyed that you were veering away from the boat work, but your Landy is a worthy machine, and it's fun to watch you work on it.

one of the most satisfying things I did to my 77 SWB Landcruiser was install a 90ltr auxiliary fuel tank in the rear. dual fuel intakes, dual fuel gauges plus cut over switch. never could figure out why they would come standard with A 45 ltr tank mounted under the drivers seat in the cabin lol. In Australia, that wouldn't get you far

Awesome job on the "TANK". As far as fuel tanks go, this wouldn't be my first rodeo. I've pulled the bed OFF of a truck to keep from pulling the fuel tank to change the pump. Kudos to you for installing it alone. But the satisfaction of a job well done is why we do it.

I enjoyed watching the build videos of this vehicle many years ago. Has it really been that long? Admittedly the videos had been out for a while before I found them but either way it was a quite a while ago for me. It’s great to see the truck getting some love and attention again. That tank looks superb and hopefully should give you years or trouble free motoring like the rest of the truck.

You might want to check that your tank is grounded to the frame. If the fuel quantity indicator is not working that might be the reason also grounding a fuel tank would prevent any static electricity sparks which no one wants.

Here in AUS the tank is under the drivers seat, with long range tanks under the passengers seat. The tank under the back was only fitted to the station wagon. Having said that, your engine conversion may have used some of the underseat space. Good work getting that done.

That was a fun video with the new tank install. Very interesting spotting your modifications being familiar with originals (including dirt in eyes). You must be a boater calling the back end of the Rover the aft end. She also has a very blunt bow, huge windage, and hard chines. Lets not go near comfort ratios or sail area to dispalcement ratios.

Yup, both hoodie and T-shirt don't handle washes very well. they have to be washed on gentle and either hang dried or on very low heat. Cheap iron on's. Wash ONLY in cold/lukewarm water and no heat above low setting on dryer Those aluminum tanks (regardless of manufacture should be given a good thick coat of a good bed liner (like Rhino liner) with a plate sandwiched between layers
@TravelsWithGeordie

I'm disappointed about the shirts. It's not iron on but premium DTG, Direct To Garment printing that is considered high quality. I'm going to look into embroidery options. These tanks are designed to weather without risk of corrosion, they will form a protective oxide layer that very effectively protects them. Any sort of finish, stops this process and promotes weeping corrosion.

No sump drain in the original tank? I don't have one in my 85 110,and you have to wonder why on this dirty fuelled earth, there was none! I I took look forward to my own tank change..a sod of a job, literally, given the state of the roads in the Northern part of Ireland. Loved the 'pleasure to be driving a land rover after a period of hiatus ' (my words) as to be fair. Is a 'different' experience for everyday work! Enjoy. Lovely fuel tank that. Jc

It's pretty and shiney but are you going to protect it with paint or some type of undercoating because of the the salt they put on the roads up there to melt the ice during the winter time and corrosion from just normal wear and tear?

They welded the extra metal on the tank holes on the inside whereas they should have welded them on the outside and it would have raised the flange connections 1/4 or 1/2 inch off the tank top making it harder for any rainwater to leak into the tank should a gasket leak . Maybe could coat the tank with gravel guard or rhino liner only helps out .

Those old series rovers may be fiddly in their ways but they’re built like a tank - and now yours has a tank built to suit! Agree with you that Hylomar is the preferred sealant for all things gasoline, but curious why not use the thread sealant for the filler neck and drain plug? The small tube didn’t hold enough for those as well?
