The man who played faster than his shadow, Captain Speedfingers, and Fastest Guitar In The West were all nicknames that Alvin sported throughout his career and for a reason. His pure, raw, God-given finger speed on a guitar was at times almost unbelievable, and all of his great axe work over the years was done without the use of a foot pedal or fuzz box or wah-wah bar or any other kind of gimmick. Unheard of by today's picker's. Alvin was truly one of kind and will forever be missed!
@duncansmith89923 жыл бұрын
Alvin didn’t use a fuzz box or wah wah, like that other brilliant guitarist Hendrix,or many others. But if you watch Alvin, before every solo, he turns his guitar up resulting in overdriving his Marshall amplifiers, which creates distortion,or giving the same effect as a fuzz box.
@JojoplusBo3 жыл бұрын
Alvins mastery on guitar … did not require a fuzz box.

I saw him in Pittsburgh at a showcase presentation only 200 seats. The best damn show I ever attended he played from noon until 8:30pm he covered everything. I left that show completely saturated and a smile on my face that was on me for at least a week. The next chance I got was Wheeling Civic Center at that show he caught the drum sticks thrown by the drummer and continued playing "Good morning Little School Girl" without missing a note. I was on Blue Barrels at the time and thought I was trippin, but I bought a lazer disc movie later and there it was the actual footage of him catching the sticks and continuing to play unimpeded. Thank You TYA and RIP Alvin you were the best!

damn, I was thrilled to have seen him in Germany for 2+ hours. I was 6' away from him all night and even shared my wine skin full of ouzo with him. He also had a top notch band that night in 1984

Vintage Alvin-- the impeccable phrasing, the seamless transitions between melodic runs and jazz chording. So sweet! Funny how he turns a "slow" tune into a runaway freight train. Thanks for posting this gem.

Friggin great! Saw him in 86 in San Antonio. Couldn't believe my good fortune to be on the fence 10 yards back from the fence. Just blew me away. There was a time gap between seeing his fingers play the notes and my ears hearing them.

Saw him in Stuttgart Germany 1974. As a guitarist, I must say he was very fast and in the 70's you either had rock and roll or disco. He was meant to be a blues player but fate took him elsewhere with the Woodstock performance. This song "Slow Blues in C" is where he was intended to be. One of my true idles. All I can muster is to mimic what is the master of riff. Bye my friend.

Hey Dave I waited to hear if he mentioned the guy at the end, and he did, but I couldn't quite catch the name. But I will be listening to this over and over for days, perhaps weeks or longer, so I will eventually get it. This is a dream gig for a harp player, jamming with blues master/virtuoso/legend/God Mr. Alvin Lee. I saw him live so many times, with such opening acts as ZZ Top and Peter Frampton, even with Lynyrd Skynrd , he just totally dominated the evening no matter who he was with.
