The purple line means that the screen connector has been damaged. It may work again after reseating (as suggests the sporadic "blue screen of death"), but it may as well be simply dead.

guys there is no iphone battery can hold 3 days so you can't consider it not surviving in the last test of the washing machine so you need to try charging it first and then try to turn on on see if it survives or not

lithium ion batteries do not get damaged from cold temperatures, their capacity simply reduces significantly and discharges slower when cold, hence the reason why the phone turned off, because it had false readings it was on low power and simply turned off. consider the battery capacity to reduce from ~97% to ~35% and a discharge rate of ~96% to ~15% when cold. in simple, when the battery is cooled below -10 C, it fails to "supply" enough "power" fast enough that the phone cannot operate.

Refrigerating batteries is a sure fire way to have them go to sleep. When I work outside in the cold, I have special heaters for my photographic batteries to keep them nice and warm and therefore, working.

I dropped my friend's 4s in class and I almost had a heart attack because her phone is black and she had one of those cheap rue 21 black case... and so it fell face forward, I saw some black pieces fall beside it, I thought I had really damaged her phone... so I picked it up not knowing what to say but thank god it didn't do anything to her iPhone but it did break her case... Like it's kinda funny to say but that was a life changing experience for me... I will now never touch anyone's phone unless it's in a protective case, my phone will forever be in a protective case { like my mom always tells me } and I most likely won't touch my friends phone again, haha...

My iphone 4 is pretty durable, first day of having it, it slipped out my pocket and went on a roller coaster water ride, security found it and turned it on whilst wet, so I can prove it was mine... It didn't work for a week, left it in rice, sort of worked almost all buttons were broken, Charged it on a Speaker dock thing and that somehow fixed it completely. It has been dropped many many times these years, and has been thrown around etc, no dents or cracks. Only damage was when I scraped it accidentally on my skateboard grip, but even that isn't even a major scratch. I don't even use a case or screen protector. The phone is just laggy and crashes on apps, it used to overheat, but not really anymore.

Never mess with the 3310, it can break many things and still work, it can break windshields, your girl's head, it could even wreck this though iphone 4s. On top of lack of reception and the battery freezing, we also have a decrease in resistance due to the lower temperature. wattage= volts x amps, amps=volts/ohms. lower ohms on a static voltage leads to faster amp draw. Not very entertaining, and I didn't learn anything. 1/5 stars, but that's cause I'm biased towards destructivity.

I had a case on my iphone 4 and it dropped only 6 inches on concrete and it shattered all over the back. I say the same every time I buy a new iPhone and then a few months down the line I realise that it is a phone, an inanimate object - albeit an expensive one - and I should appreciate the design and use it instead of treating it like a newborn baby. I have a screen protector on mine and that's it. I've never dropped a phone and it has no scratches after months of use. Take care of it but also enjoy it.

I actually fell asleep one day with my iPhone 4s in my coat pocket while I was bundled under a heating blanket on a chair in my living room. I had went to use my furnace for the first time that season, only to have it break so I had to bundle up for a day but anywho, I fell asleep for a few hours and had completely forgotten about my phone. When I woke up later wondering where I had layer my phone I was terrified when I discovered it in my pocket because iI had it in a dual layer protective case and the whole thing was hot. When I tried to turn it on, a red exclamation point appeared and said that the phone was too hot to use at this time. I thought for sure I'd ruined it. Well the house was colder in the kitchen so I set it on the counter and left it to gradually cool off. I had also taken it out of the dual rubber and plastic case I had it in. When I went back less than an hour later, the phone powered on as normal and I'm still using it. I noticed here was no heat warning message in the video there. I don't know if that phone is on iOS 7, if not maybe it's a new feature with the last 7 update.

the difficulty with iphone, is you can't remove the battery immediately if you dropped in water, so mostly will not survive, while electricity still moving in the iphone from the battery. so they should remove the battery as they did with samsung S3
