I noticed that the iphone 5 said no service on it, unlike the 4s that was on Tmobile and Wifi during testing. I think the battery drain for the 4S was due to it searching for a signal from inside the freezer. Perhaps all phones should have the sims removed or be put into airplane mode to check for this? Love the torture tests!

Issue number one: With the iphone 5 she slid the phone across rough pavement and dropped down a few extra stairs once and dropped from shoulder/head height 3 times. With the s3 she dropped the phone from about shoulder height only 3 times. The heat test she cooked the iphone 5 to 200 degrees and checked it immediately upon taking it out of the oven. With the s3 she used heat lamps that only "sunbathed" the phone to 140 degrees and on top of that she gave it 10/15 minutes before checking it

***** You have a 6s - which apple tries to optimise the most as it is apple main source of profit on iPhones - 6 and below are mostly forgotton in terms on optimisations - i have a 5s which runs fine on ios 7 and 8 but anything above is a nightmare. My old 4s ran ios 8 but it was designed for ios 5 - it was slightly usable but ios 9 on iphone 4s was just a joke.

The S3 had direct light like 2inch away from it plus the phone is cheap plastic and didn't melt. The oven was hotter, but it had to heat up to 200 first slowly instead of almost instant like the lights. Pretty similar test. Marble is one of the hardest surfaces around, but concret does have like little spikes since its rough. S3 again is just plastic compared to painted aluminum so it wouldn't of been half as bad. However idk why they don't have a standard test for all phones that's the same.

Your point is? I think it is to show how strong the back is with the aluminium and glass combo, since it's generally known to be tough. Since the S3 uses plastic, the outcome will be pretty obvious(which is that it will get scratched since it's plastic vs concrete).

True but the main scratch damages on the back were caused by sliding the iphone 5 over the rocky concrete floor. If it wasn't for that, the only real damage probably would have been a crack on the corner glass in the back.

the water test amazed me! I dropped a black berry bold in water for like 2 seconds and it was done. I think an I phone 5 with a decent case would be a pretty good daily phone.

its just the casing I think. The iphone 5 has a metal case which is rigid while the S3 case is flimsy so that might have something to do with Iphone's ability to scratch easier.

Well that's the main thing is that all the damage just looks like crap, but didn't actually affect the phone's performance. People have complained to apple that the backs get scratched very easy and apple just said it's coated aluminum and having the bare metal shine through is what is supposed to happen. While the S3 is cheap plastic so it won't scratch or break. Only gonna cost you like $2 to get a new cheap back if it does anyway

The biggest problem I have with this series of torture tests is the heat test. The insides of cars on summer days can get hot I can agree with this ,but I doubt the inside of a car would be 200 degrees Fahrenheit. I could see possibly dropping it in a fire then quickly getting it out with a stick or something that would be a plausible test. But 200 degrees for an hour is a little much. That would probably kill anything.

This is the kind of tests I was looking for. Not just some guys throwing their iPhone on the street. I wouldn't use it inside a freezer or an oven though but it's nice to know it survives all that.

its a simple way of doing test for leaving it in the car or something like that, but i dont like her freezer test. unlike an oven that can easily go several hundred degrees to match the internal heat of a car even on the hottest days of summer, freezers are set on average to be just below freezing and anyone from cold areas should easily know it can get easily into the negatives at night. theres a major difference b/w that 30 degree freezer and a common 0 degree winter night.

I gave my cheepest phone a wash in the washing machine,got it out,blow it,and it was just fine.A little watery sign on the inside of the screen but after blowing it and few days after,it completely recovered and i'm using it today too. Also,it keeps the battery for 1 MONTH,not 5 hours like the crappy ifon ...

iphones suck my partner and one of our kids had one each first the kids one got dropped as kids do and it cracked the screen so had to get the screen replaced then not long after my partner knocked her phone off the arm rest on our set only around 700mm high and it smashed the screen, they truly are rubbish ive had my s3 for over a year have dropped it about 3 times only and it didn't even mark it the phone still looks new.

I was hoping they'd show if the camera would work. Admittedly, I use my iPhone a lot as a camera, probably more than as a phone; if the camera isn't functional, that's a fail for me. I had the first iPhone, and no matter what I put it through, the glass over the camera remained intact so I could still take pictures with it. When I got a 4, I put it in a case immediately, but after one drop, the very first crack on the casing was over the rear camera lens; making it useless as a camera. :/

Also, Molly, you should have tested the headphone jack, speakers and audio through connection to the charging port, after the water test. These parts of my iPhone 5 were all affected and/or ruined (speakers) after just a few drops of water, yet alone full submersion like in this test. Just a tip for the future.

I dropped my iphone 5 about 3 feet from my pocket onto wood floor and the front completely shattered, I strongly recommend to get a case and be carful with your phone it is not as durable as they make it seem

GS3's back are covered with shiny plastic.. iphone 5's back are covered with slated black aliminium and glass:P it's obvious that you can see you can see the scratches easier c: anyways its not a fail.. because you can see scratches.. as long as it is functional, is it a survive, in my opinion though

how can you compare the iphone 5 with the s3 if the test weren't the same.. the iphone 5 was put in 200 degree tempature while the s3 was put in 190 degree tempatures.. the s3 was droped on indoor flooring while the iphone 5 was dropped on concete .. & you didnt drop them at the same height & the "wild card " torture test weren't the same either..

Just one thing, please check to make sure all the hardware (that includes the sensors, camera, headphone jack, speaker, etc) are also working totally fine...my friend dropped his iphone 4 from the roof of my house and luckily it survived....but later at home when he fired up the camera, he found the camera was dysfunctional....same thing happened with my friends Note 2 but also included the malfunction of the s-pen

this iphone torture test was unfair compared to the S3's you put the S3 in some terrarium for 130 degrees whereas the iPhone 5 in a oven for 200 and secondly the S3 was dropped on marble floor instead of concrete floor. Concrete has way more potential to cause scratches, and the S3's plastic casing probably would have melted in the oven.

Its unfair comparing it with the galaxy s3 torture test, where all she did was the key test which was soft...the iphone? A long drag on uneven rough concrete. She dropped the S3 on a floor with absorbant tiles, the iphone was dropped quite heavily onto concrete and bounced several times down a small stairs.
