Completely agree, I was beating myself up since my dog was reactive and nothing was working. I took a step back 6 months ago and said "OK you are scared and nervous to other dogs, let's accept that and just get you to enjoy walking with me" Now we are at a point we're we are able to train around other dogs and have her only focus on me when other dogs are around. Im still at the mindset of just enjoying my time with my dog and giving her a proper life with play/training.

Hi, how r u training your pup focus on you? My Mal's just so crazy about playing with dogs so it's hard to just make him ignore other dogs on his own LOL.

@@Dreamyourname all I did is change from feeding her from a bowl to feeding her outside from my hand. As well as going somewhere with no people or dogs and playing/training her there and letting her be a dog as I've seen that I was getting to stressed of her reacting. I think she felt that and was expecting dogs or people to come near her. I stopped worry about that and just played/trained together on our own space. Overtime I saw that she was always focused on me and then we just took baby steps around dogs and people.

Thank you for confirming this. I have been struggling for the past 8 weeks with my rescue dog and I have been beaten up by trainers. Hearing this almost makes me cry. I have my limits and realize that I am NOT a dog trainer by profession. Giving up is not in my book and it might take a lot more time to achieve some goals.

Love your channel Andy, I am from Holland and have had malinois for over 40 years and training KNPV. Last week I had to put my dog to sleep, 13 great years with a super dog. Going to get a new one and I will use some tips you gave to complete my own system. Keep up the good work!

Heartfelt sadness for the passing of your dog. I hope you find comfort in the next one. I have a sweet girl who is wearing a collar that was my first dogs. It comforts me to put it on her. My first dog has been gone for 15 years and I still miss him. My new girl is a malinois. First time with this breed. Had a dutchie that compelled me to learn to really train and now I am hooked. Wish I could watch you train. Learn so much from those of you who have been doing it for a long time. Much respect and sympathy.

@@cynthiaaustin1763 thank you for this reply. I have used my collar on all my dogs, it symbolizes to me all the knowledge I have gained from all my dogs. Every dog is different and requires subtle adjustments in training. I have to relearn the new puppy's body language, which makes it easier to predict his behavior and adjust my training accordingly. This will be number 8 and I will start again with a blank page. Training and learning never stops, I find that so intriguing, that's why I can never stop doing it.

Missed you live. I was putting my training to good use, we were at dock diving event😀 I will never compete in structured sports, this hooman doesn't have the discipline. Team Diesel- dock diving, scent work, will start barn hunt in November. I am happy that Diesel is calm, ignores other pups, walks well on leash in crowds, with crazy drive when working. I so agree, training and problem solving takes a vast amount of knowledge and creativity for those odd situations 😃 Thank you Andy 😊

Great advice from a pro trainer. I have a 13 month Rottweiler she def came a long way already. I've used a lot your techniques mixed with a few different styles as well almost like MMA. It's a work in progress and you gave me more confidence confirming it's a process I'm using a lot of food, prong, ecollar no collar voice only MMA Style. I just started proof training in the public with distractions and it is awesome seeing my dog in sync w me and learning with me. Thank you brother.

I love all of your videos. I have been watching you for a few months, every chance I get. I have always had GSDs and love them but never had them working or trained in sport. My last GSD died over 2 years ago and learning from you has explained so much about why she was so reactive to other animals since before we had ever acquired her. She was crazy high drive, fantastic with kids, and with the proper training could have done . We hired a professional trainer who trained dogs for the Marines but I could not get the same results. I am so overdue for having dogs back in my life, but I want to do it all differently this time, starting with crate training and building the dog I want with great training from a puppy. We will be joining your Patreon at least a month before getting our next dog to formulate a plan and prepare. My husband and I have a bit of a different vision for our next dogs. I am slightly slightly intimidated by a Mal in the sense that it is like buying a mansion and only ever stepping into to the entryway if I don't take it to its full potential. But there are aspects of a Mal that draw me, such as less hip problems, slightly smaller, faster maturity than a GSD. The breeder I am using breeds both and my desire would be 1 of each, about 6 months to a year apart and they would eventually both be family dogs, able to play together and keep each other company when we are not home. Husband wants our next dogs protection trained. I want a combination of working/protective pets and I am afraid I will ruin it by snuggling it too much and being inconsistent. I'm afraid you'll tell me to get a Golden Retriever or a Lab. I'm training wild donkeys for ministry right now and your videos have even helped with that. I think that a GSD or a Mal would both be versatile enough to learn skills to do some work on the farm, including aid in PTSD therapy, learn protection, patrol the property, especially when my kids are out playing. Is it ok to change my goals for the dog(s) with time or do I need to be solid on what my long-term plan is before ever getting them? I'm unoffendable, but still nervous you'll tell me I shouldn't get either, lol.

Hi Andy 👋🏻 Gutted I missed this live Q&A, looks like a mega one! Do you know what, I’m so grateful I found your channel. I’m late to the dog training party having only started late last year. I was 47 then, now 48, so time isn’t on my side. But I aim to grow as a trainer every day, and you’re helping me do that. One thing I’d like to add, yes dog training is super hard, but like anything in life if you’re truly passionate about it and you work hard you’ll make it happen. Props to you Andy for putting out all your awesome content and ‘real talk’. If I ever get the chance to meet you I’m buying you a beer 🤙🏻🍻

Hi Andy I would love for u to answer these 4 questions 1. when i first get my malinois puppy how many times a day should I be training with him and when should I increase the training time 2. Do I use feeding time as training time when Ime hand feeding my puppy do I use that time to to shape certain commands because I feel like it would take a long time feeding your dog that way considering the amount of kibble and how little u can fit in your hand when luring 3. Or should I just keep feeding time as just hand feeding and designate multiple training sessions a day using a treats instead and if so how many training sessions would u recommend with your new pup and for how long 4. at what times of the day do u feed your pups and how much thank u
@AndyKrueger

Train 3-6x per day. Increase training time by 10 minutes every month. He only eats when training. It is much faster than you think. I feed morning and evening. Follow the amount listed on the bag 👍🏻

I can not tell you the volume of bumper stickers that read, "My child is an honor student". Yet, "the official four-year graduation rate for students attending public colleges and universities is 33.3%." Or the all-too-common, "My [high school] child is a future NFL star." Yet, only 6.5% play in college, and of that only 1.6 % are drafted into the NFL. The same must be for dog owners, Exaggerated Unrealistic Emotional Expectations. Thanks for the reality check.

Hey Andy I have a serious question I need your help with... my gsd (workingline) takes food from my hand very aggressively where my fingers are being bit. It's soooo hard to train her to heal and lure with food... how can I teach her to take it nicely but not too nicely where it takes some food drive away. Please bro 🙏

You can turn your hand into a cup motion and give your GSD treat like that. Also, buy a dog maze feeder. Where as it teach your dog to eat it's food slowly. I have a 11 weeks old German Shepherd. She doing really good. Teaching her in her pace. Some days are better than others. One day at a time
