The only thing I get from watching Robert and anyone else who employs the Michael Ellis technique- is frustrated. 😅 This is great for advanced dog owners but terrible for new owners who are a blank slate.

Maaaann!! Cabral stays 10 steps ahead and really shows the difference between obedience and advanced obedience. I love how he interprets the best way the dog will learn what the handler is trying to get him/her to do. Wish I could’ve seen him work some of the dogs himself, but this was still very informative!!

I really enjoyed this and I’m a very amateur trainer. I thought there were three different levels of handler and learned something from each that will help me. One of the things that I saw a trainer say and stuck in my head when training was, are you Disneyland or are you like watching paint dry? Be Disneyland….that first trainer 😊

To the cute girl in the orange hoody. What Robert is saying about your commands is that when you give them you say then with "upwards-inflection". The pitch of your voice rises towards the end of the word. A command should have flat or downwards inflection. @Nate thanks for having Robert on very interesting episode.

So apparently I really need to do whatever she (the first woman) is doing because my 8 month old pup was absolutely **glued** to the TV during this video. Also, i was working with my pup while watching this, and using the tips given, and I'm starting to see him **finally** not always focused on whatever is in my hands. It's a goddamn miracle.

Some useful training tips for chase based focus. Eps is from a very scent driven breed and we will use more move away techniques suggested for regathering attention. The vocal tonal qualities are something I also notice effecting our work too. When my energy is flagging or I am upset or cross it becomes more of a challenge to deliver useful cues. I (Eps handler) have studied music for years and have an interest languages and tone recognition. Dogs ears are so much more effective at collecting sound. With human speech in questions the last sound is higher Are ^ you? The you is a higher note. Statements the last sound is a lower frequency and often more staccato. Interestingly this is in all tonal languages in a vast majority of the spoken language. It seems like dogs understand this (probably effects our body language too). Newborns already have an understanding of the call and response tonal changes within 1hr of being born a study found. I wonder if dog vocalisations have similar characteristics. Interesting.

Ok, I agree with Robert on most of this content. I wouldn't grab a dog by the scruff of their neck. But I agree with the chaining process and moving to be more exciting. It is difficult to watch some of the people with little to no motivation with their dogs. Afraid maybe of what others will think? I did skip through some of the vid as I was getting frustrated that even after being given the best instruction from Nate, some of these folks are not applying it to their dogs and they are blaming the dog. It's not the dog! When my dog isn't doing something I keep wondering how I'm not communicating correctly with my dog. That scratching is just the dog communicating stress. Also head shakes are usually the same thing, dog stress. It is good that Robert gives the instruction what to do instead of just taking the leash. However sometimes it might be good to demonstrate... I'm so ADD, hope I'm making sense here! 😂

@@NateSchoemer Robert really is. {Only just discovered you, though today!} Re Kodo a rescue dog Robert found a home for, Kodo was utterly focussed on Robert..yet on old Kodo vids it said Kodo was returned as bad with either dogs and guarding his person. Robert is naturally commanding...can't see any dog not taking notice of him. I do notice even my gentle dogs love 'strong' men. {I'm a woman}

Luv' it! So many handlers want to teach several components at a time, breaking it down to a single Yes! Energy from the handler will bring energy out in the dog. Using the voice is critical at the right moment. I feel too much verbal noise just becomes white noise to the dog, it's ' our movement' am I on track with this?

And yes, that last dog either is too softy or was abused before by a man (just from another point of view, and im not referring to the handler, he looks easy to scare away, just review the video), (she needs to be more excited and assertive to speak with confidence-not like asking permision. She really need to feel great about having accomplishments with her furry friend. That will help, just keep up with the great job you guys are doing. It seems like they feed off your energy and your drive the 1 thing in my journey ive learned is the faster you respond to his actions the happier they seem and eager to do same i use yes thats the sightn he knows he did good job and a reward of something is coming and we have a schedule i could not of gotten a more well behaved dog ever and we are def partners since getting him life has been so great and i rescued him fro. Nice to meet you. My dog is too sensitive to sound. Firecrackers react loudly to the sound of lightning strikes and sudden dullness. My dog is scared and always anxious outside because of this. Can you tell me what to do for the dog?

In training put your dog in drive with some play before you begin . Put play into the obedient regime Like asking for a down sit free play down, free down free sit etc

So I have a dog that can’t focus on me. If you were to just play with her, you wouldn’t know it but there is something off in her vision. You can really only tell when working on focus. She has had testing and is completely clear of any known eye issues. She has been to a vet and multiple canine optometrist and they can find nothing physically wrong with her although they see the problem as clearly as I do. However to get her to look at my face (actually a treat) I have to hold it 6 inches to a foot away from me depending on how far away she is. This does not transfer when we are in the act of training focus. I started trying the day she came home. Because of this, she does not (or can’t) keep her vision on me when I give commands or in heel position, etc. She learns other things very quickly as in she literally had the most solid recall from a football field away on the second day I was teaching it to her and it is still as solid eight months later. Any thoughts or ideas?

This is so straightforward and we'll explained. Basically "playing" with your dog to get engagement so the dog is focused on you and in what you want him or her to do. Putting the Fun in the learning not military style boring ORDERS!

@@rico4you Robert Cabral is always saying how it’s the owners who need training- or is it Caesar who says it? Well, we have to find a style that fits us- all I’m saying is that this isn’t it for more people than you know. If Klitschko hadn’t found the right trainer ( Emmanuel Steward ) for his size and style- he would not have risen above his usual level. I’m sure someone like you who dislikes military type drills would agree. Michael Ellis is for those who can read music or can dance to swing. Many of us are tone deaf and have two left feet.

I’m a VERY mid-range trainer and I got so much out of this video, a bit from each trainer as I think it was deliberate to show different levels and the very common mistakes people make that Robert worked with. I do watch with the intention to learn, it’s healthier for the psyche, mine anyway.
