Time to get the brush out and get the old timber cladding transformed! The weapon of choice is OSMO UV Oil which has always been a great performer on our own previous projects. Plus a bonus evening fish to top off the DIY day at the folks place.

Looks like a great finish!! Fair play for painting the whole building with a 2" brush!!!

Looks like a really satisfying job and well rounded off with a fishing trip. I've been watching your brilliant videos for inspiration on my own, seemingly endless, restoration house and barn project. Osmo are a fantastic range of products and although they may be expensive, if you apply with a cloth and work it in like Tung or Danish oil a little goes a long way and the finish really brings out the detail of the wood, rather than just coating it. The great thing is that like these other oils you can apply it and then go back and even it out by rubbing it with the cloth to remove streaks and shiny spots. Works well on furniture too. Cheers!

So I'm about 6 weeks away from receiving a brand new softwood log cabin, I've been advised by the supplier to use a water based product such as Cuprinol Garden shades. None of which float my boat on colors. I'm just in the process of installing a heap of oak sleepers from which one of your other videos inspired me, Had every intention of using the clear Osmo oil on these and the new log cabin. The supplier said they have had better results from the water based product but i really want to use the Osmo UV and possibly WR base to cover the wood boring insect possibility. I would love to know how the garage is holding up 2 years down the line. Keep the video's coming, They are great!

Nice finish with Osmo, not used it myself but had lots of recommendations to use it. There is a very similar Eco product called Treatex. Check out their website. They do inside and outside oils and finishes. Not sure how it compares price wise but I have used it inside on floors and it is a very nice hard wearing finish. Andy UK

Hi, am getting red cedar wood fence panels in my back yard, do you think it needs to be sanded, before I apply the oil. I mean it is required for brand new installation as there is no wear or outdoor exposure yet. Any advice appreciated.

tedious but rewarding work. great vid again. i would love to do this kind of stuff with my dad but since i live in Ireland and my parents are in Belgium, I only get very few chances to do this kind of work together. But luckily I have a great father in law here :-)

We painted our hand built pergola in Osmo 'Patina' (grey) it looks amazing. Watching the rain drops sit on the surface is fascinating, unfortunately I ruined my favourite DIY shirt doing it. Osmo say it can be overpainted with no special prep I hope they are right.

Nice work, quick question, what type of cladding have you used to build the outer building which you are applying the Osmo oil to? Siberian Larch, Redwood pressure treated? Thanks

@@TheRestorationCouple great, thank you for you're quick reply! I have been watching your video's for over a year now, well done to the work you have done, hats off! I'm building an outer extension out of timber, not sure about the cladding, do I go for Siberian Shiplap, or pressure treated redwood, would have any knowledge on which is more durable, and less maintenance?

Trust me, you'll be redoing Osmo every year of your life. I eventually got fed up and stripped it off and went with varnish - least I get 2 to 3 years out of it now. In future I would only use oak externally and let it go grey and then its self preserved. Osmo is a poor performer for the money - it hols up to moisure fine wind and direct sun strip it right off.
