Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice. The first instance was during Wrangel’s flight from the Crimea. Muslim Tatars in the area went out of their way to hide Wrangel from the communists and helped him make his escape. The second instance happened while Wrangel was fighting under Denikin in the Caucasus. A detachment of Circassian Muslim “ancients” met him after praying in a local church and made a big ceremony of offering their sons to fight for Wrangel personally. In return, Wrangel handed over a couple dozen communist prisoners. The ancients slaughtered them pretty much immediately. The Muslims were so sympathetic to Wrangel and the Whites because they hated the atheist communists who had been committing atrocities in their villages. The Muslim ancients’ village was among these victims.kzbin.infogaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f970.png

Lenin said; "Muslims of Russia…all you whose mosques and prayer houses have been destroyed, whose beliefs and customs have been trampled upon by the tsars and oppressors of Russia: your beliefs and practices, your national and cultural institutions are forever free and inviolate." To be saying the Bolsheviks were completely opposed to the muslims is untrue (though you might not be claiming that), there were radical anti religious organizations which were a small part of the revolution, and even disbanded under Stalin. There were also muslim organizations in comparison. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muskom My guess is that these people were of the upper class of muslims in the Russian Empire who hated the Bolsheviks for numbers of reason and not only their so called traditionalism going to die for a foreign german dynasty.

When the Serbian army was asked to help the White movement the vast majority of soldiers mutinied because "Red or white a Russian is still a Russian and a Serb will not kill either." Small numbers joined both sides. Regular soldiers mostly joined the Reds because people were getting tired of corruption from the upper classes. Officers joined the White army because of the memory of the Romanov dynasty.

Now I'm kind of dissapointed (if you could call it that) by my ancestors that we wouldn't put an end to the communist menace once and for all, but I guess the polish nation surviving was more important. Well, the Poles were tired, war does that. Just one of those things. The leadership of the day would have been derelict in their duty in doing otherwise and losing the country in the process. After so long of being partitioned. Poland in 2022 is forming a new and very close relationship with Ukraine. Maybe it's to make up for 1920 or self-interest or what I like to think helping a neighbor and kin because it's the right thing to do.

@@desolatortrooper7196 and the Reds(exclusively Bolshevik soviets) in contrast destroyed all internal division with their movement, the Kronstadt Rebellion initially started as a protest against the authoritarian communist government who were beginning to centralize the totalitarian state and suppress free speech(also unpopular requisition measures during the civil war) by the leftist anarchist and libertarian socialist sailors who viewed the dictatorship as undemocratic and just as bad as the Tsar's old reactionary tyranny ended in a violent clash. The unsuspecting sailors believed they could come to a peaceful resolution and were fairly exercising their democratic rights but the Bolsheviks ever ideological purists attacked and declared all of them rebels and enemies of the revolution. Understandably many became disheartened and surrendered but over 1000 fought to the death. In the end a total of 2000 'rebel' lives were unnecessarily wasted from the battle and executions. These ideologically similar men could have had their rage and aggression tactically directed effectively against the common enemy by appeasing lips but would allow for more problems down the line. Perhaps in a strategic sense it was more useful as Lenin and the Communists were able to secure their grip on power unquestionably now. 8000 were confirmed to escape to Finland as political refugees. All those who surrendered that weren't executed were imprisoned, there were so many of them initially that the prisons overflowed. Over time many of their sentences were changed to forced labor in the gulags.

I have thought long why I like your videos so much! What is it that sets them apart from other history and or countryball KZbinrs... It's not the animations (while good they aren't way better then others) Not the jokes you make/have your countryballs say I think it is the way you present these very cool stories. They are often niche topics that aren't covered widely but the real important thing to me is your ability to tell these tales both on a personal level, evoking emotions, while also giving a good overview of the situation as a whole and staying objective. They way you use music adds to that as you implement it perfectly to create or support the emotional investment in these stories. And I guess that is the key! You make me actually care about the people in your story, their cause and fight, instead of just hearing about something interesting that happened once, I m invested in the outcome of the story. Seriously I have my opinions on the Russian civil war. But when I watch a video you do on the communist perspective I m a communist. If you do one like this from the white armies point of view I m a nationalist. And when you tell the tale of the Ukrainian black army both of those can get screwed, independent Ukrainian fighters for the win 😂

I am closer to Bolsheviks and left/communist ideas, but I care about any people, who lived in that time and survived these horrific events. Sorry for my english, i'm native russian speaker and not so often talks about philosophy on english. Have a good day. I love peoples like you, who have so much feelings to author work and hope people will think about your words more.

5:14 the issue is that this was never going to happen with anyone except him (or perhaps the moderate socialist whites that kolchak coup'd) in power. it was a fundamental failure of the whites in russia, the incapacity to see the need of these things, the myopic view about "saving russia" but at the same time being unable to see anything of what needed to be done for it. (EDIT: Except fighting of course.) "If only Denikin had implemented this" is on par with "if only the tzar had implemented this". It was just not going to happen.

Could ya cover the story of the other black baron (and the avatar of the mongolian God of War), Baron von Ungern-Sternberg and his Mongolian campaign? The man who defeated 10 times superior numbers and liberated Mongolia in under 6 months, whose dream it was to unite Asia under a single eurasian empire to liberate the world from the forces of the revolution. I think it would fit perfectly as a conclusion to the Russian civil war, happening right at the end of it in 1921. My personal favorite book on him is probably Beasts, Men, and Gods by Ossendowski, includes quite a lot of philosophical and esoteric stuff which could be interesting, it's basically an autobiography of Ossendowski, a polish doctor who tried to escape the red army by trying to pass through Mongolia, later in the novel encountering Ungern and revealing quite a lot about his story and thoughts. Reads really well too, reminded me a bit of LotR with how it's structured at times. Another book I've seen about him is the Bloody White Baron, but I have yet to finish it.

Didn't need saving. It built this country. Saved my bloodline. And most importantly made us greater than ever before. Respected by wise, and feared by worthless. It made us strong and educated. It got a man to space, and would even to moon. It is the regime for which I am nothing but thankful. Romanovs couldn't beat Kaiser. WW2 Would be a lost cause under those idiots.

It really depends on who is in charge after the communists or their opponents win. In both scenarios there is a chance of a madman with no care for civilians and opposing politicians to take power and cause some disaster (a famine perhaps.). Then there is the possibility of a smart reformist like Wrangler to take power and set Russia on a path of prosperity

Russia, hard to say exactly because of the alternatives. But the USSR as a whole definitely would have been better off independent.

The real question is would Russia have been better off without an Authoritarian leader or not. Without an Authoritarian Leader, I would suspect Russia wouldn't have been able to industrialize and centralize as quickly as it did in our timeline. However, without one many more people would have lived from 1920-1953. The problem however is Germany, Russia in both timelines was not ready at all for WW2, however our Industrialized USSR was able to use it's industry to outproduce the Nazis. If Russia didn't have an Authoritarian Leader, it's industry mightve not have been up to standard or even might be non-existent. The eastern front might have been the same as WW1 with Germany simply taking more and more land while the Russians, albeit with some pushback would eventually fall. The Soviets were god awful, but WW2 probably might have lasted much longer or even have come to a white peace without the Soviets on the other side taking away valuable troops from Nazi Germany.
