Just wanted put a disclaimer: - I apologise if you consider the thumbnail to be a spoiler. The thumbnail shows a bloater (something I didn’t consider a spoiler), as the story of TLOU is over 10 years old and it is well known that they exist in TLOU world. It was also shown in the original trailer over two months ago, in addition to the trailer at the end of last episode. As a reactor it is my job to make interesting thumbnails which help grab people’s attention, and if you search up episode 5 a lot of reactors chose the same sort of thumbnail because it was an awesome part of the episode which was shown multiple time before it’s release. It’s a hard balance between choosing thumbnails that grab people’s attention and also trying to please everyone. - I have also played the game multiple times so I know the story really well, so unfortunately that will sometimes come up in reactions because I can’t act like I don’t know what’s coming up when I do. From now on I will try and refrain from mentioning events that haven’t come up in the show, however, I’m only human and might slip up here or there!

I knew the show would be so much rougher because we're seeing real people and the acting would have to be more authentic. It's not easy to see a kid get killed and then a suicide. And then seeing how that effects the main characters.

@@odysseywow exactly. That's what got me bothered by the game. The characters are too artificial, over the top acting, dialog. Hard to feel real sorry especially since in this scene it gets dismissed quickly after because they're made to be invisible characters that are stronger than feelings, bullets or a virus. Ellie says "awe man" after Harry kills himself. You say awe man if someone falls down the stairs 😂 while Bella's acting haunts me when I think about her reaction. So all I'm saying is I'm happy with this adaptation. Lol

Oh I really enjoyed her acting in that scene. I can feel her emotions. How else would a person react to unexpected suicide if front of you. It's scary and quick. I like the realism the show gives when in the game there was a disconnect when Ellie just says "awe man" after the suicide.

Ellie and Joel switch sides at the end. That was the Tess moment from episode 2. Ellie runs ahead while Joel is still waiting at the grave. Tess gave Joel a mission he wanted to fulfill as her last wish. The relationship that Joel had with Tess was similar to Ellie and Sam. Ellie promised Sam the cure here and couldn't keep this promise. She now wants to make sure that this never happens again. As Tess said at the time "save who you can save". Ellie really has a mission now. Indirectly get through her feelings of guilt. She wants her blood to work. Before that, she was someone who had no control over anything. Others have determined where she grows up and where she has to go now. Now that has changed. Now conviction plays a role and she takes control. She wants to save the world so that there are no more Sam's.

Yep this one hurt. Part of me was hoping they would change the ending too. But the further it went the more it looked like they were going to stick with the original and it hurt even more. Made worse by the fact Sam looks so much younger here. The fact they made Sam deaf was very interesting as well. The kid actor was actually deaf in real life. Fantastic actor for someone so young.

Doubtful. Even if they only took half of their forces after the group, the remaining ones would likely be just as unprepared and overwhelmed. If they had stopped chasing after Henry and Sam, and prepared a better defensive position, they might have had a chance.

This show keeps doing what I genuinely thought was impossible. They’re taking entire chapters of the game and somehow condensing them into hour long episodes and they DON’T FEEL RUSHED! We got the backstory of Henry and Sam, and Sam being deaf was an idea Craig Mazin had that Neil Druckman loved so much that he said that it made him angry (in a good way) he didn’t originally put it in the game. We also saw the tunnel community which is one of my favorite levels in gaming history because it tells an entire story just from looking at your surroundings, plus it was great to see Ellie and Sam just be kids and forget the troubles of the world. And then the scene when Ellie tries to heal Sam was so heartwarming which made the ending even MORE heartbreaking than even in the game. And finally we got to see not just a horde of infected but our first *BLOATER* and it was even more terrifying than the game. This episode was absolutely a 10/10

The change they did with Sam made the change they did to his fate much more effective. Because the human version was deaf and couldn't hear then the infected version was also deaf and couldn't hear so as a result when Sam changed he didn't react to anything until Elle Touched him. Bravo.👏

I replayed the game before the show came out and realised for the first time you can catch Ellie pick up the toy for Sam of your quick enough. If you look at her she waits for you to look away but you can look back quick and see her stand up quickly from picking it up

This episode was beautiful with the bond of Henry and Sam and their background story but also so depressing towards the end. The fact they chose for Sam to be deaf in the show was even more sad in a way. Even the actor is deaf which is crazy because he really delivered in this role! Not just Sam's actor but Henry's as well really delivered these roles man! Sam was just so wholesome behind the scenes it made me tear up more. I hope this opens many doors for their careers!

About the moment where Henry turns to Sam to ask how old he is-I love it not because Henry doesn't know his own brother's age, but because Henry wants to make sure Sam feels included in the conversation and is able to have agency and speak for himself. That small moment of consideration is so full of love and respect. Thank you for sharing your reactions! I enjoyed your thoughts on this one. That infected scene was crazy and the ending was even sadder than the game somehow. I totally understand why you’d want a happier ending for Henry and Sam. Even though it’s hard, I personally do want them to stay as faithful to the game as possible. Every moment of tragedy and pain is purposeful to the story. This reflection of Joel and Ellie hits them both and informs their arcs. It’s sad to see the light inside Ellie slowly dim with every heartbreak but it’s important for her character. It is definitely a tough story though.

I really liked how Ellie tried to help Sam, with the blood. At first i thought it was to help raise morale, but the fact that she slept in there, must’ve meant she really believeD it would work. In the next ep promo she also mentioned how she tried to help Sam and then Joel replies “it’s not that easy” which meant she really must’ve had that certain innocence and it showed how shallow her understanding of her being “the cure” is.

The only time I'm glad I haven't played a video game, but they're killing off character so fast don't have time to get emotionally connected. So far not as heartbreaking losing these characters as the ones in 'The Walking Dead'.

I can understand and obviously in the game you’re getting like 5 hours of gameplay with some of these characters. One of the differences between this and The Walking Dead is that it’s really only about 2 characters. All of the people that they run into are reflections of their relationship or are there to bond them closer and also to push them further from who they were at the start. There are very big arcs Joel and Ellie go through and these others characters are purposeful parts of it.

You do realise that in the game you spend longer with them and the show condensed their story down by a LOT right? There's bits missing especially with Sam and Henry that they couldn't put in the show meaning you spend way longer with them there. But the purpose of these characters dying is to effect Joel and Ellie and their relationship. If you can't connect with these characters them that's fine but the game has them long enough to form some attachment even if it's small

Until now, that we are watching the series, now I realize the fact that the main message of TLOU2 which was that every side, every point of view had their valid reason to seek for their vengance, that message was in part 1, where actually you can understand both sides, and there is no bad guys or good guys, just guys trying to survive, to endure and survive….

What alot of people don't get about the sniper is that his job was not to kill them but to keep them from escaping so the rest could catch up. It's call suppressing fire, and he actually hit everything thing he was aiming at. I'm sure people will disagree, but it is a tried and true military tactic, used for 100s of years.

The toy bit wouldn’t work in this version as in the game Henry doesn’t let Sam take the toy as it not essential. But in the show Henry hands Sam a massive bag of crayons so wouldn’t he let him have a toy.

Excellent acting by Bella in the scene where Henry shoots himself. Her whimpers killed me and instinctively gave me a fatherly urge to hug her The swarm scene is incredible good and creepy For sure one of the best action scenes I've ever seen Henry's first murder was his own little brother. It must be pure horror to realize what you just did. The "I'm sorry" at the end got me so hard. I cried 4 of 5 episodes and I love this show

Would have been great if they extended the interactions between Henry, Sam, Joel & Ellie, at least for two episodes so the watchers can become more familiar with the characters and felt a greater loss because they deserve more than one episode. Crossing the bridge, jumping into the water, not sure if they could trust Henry and Sam because they abandoned them. Rooming through the empty streets, talking about the ice cream truck etc.
