So happy to have this clarification. I was like "Yess" when you said "1s don't have that issue" in striving to agree, to dominate, or to have your own territory in entering a room or a group. Then it makes me wonder how would 1s react to a room. Do they simply stick to their own standards and put those on the people in the group? And what if the group disagrees with the standards? Thanks Jennifer!

Hi Jennifer ~ I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for taking the effort to create and share this video. I wasn’t sure if my partner was more a 1 or an 8 and you really did a great job providing clarification. For each time you asked, “Does that make sense?” the answer was “yes”. Next, I’ll be checking to see if you have a video contrasting 2 and 9 (which would be me)!

I really like what you say about compassionate type 8's, I have often helped and stood up for strangers that never even asked for my help. I'm not sure if this is because of my 872 tritype or being an INFP. I often wonder which came first...my MBTI personality type or my enneagram type.

In the first listen of this video, you present 8s as emotional and unreasoned. As I am a big fan of your work, I'm going to give it a second listen before responding to it.

I'm pretty sure I'm an 8 (especially after watching this) but I think what made it so hard for me to distinguish is the fact that my criteria for the "Inner circle" you talked about is very simple, based on my morality, and the default. What I mean is basically that people are in that circle by default no matter what but if they do something that goes against my beliefs (Basically, harms people = bad/Doesn't harm people = ok, leave them be) then they are immediately pushed out and would have to earn it if they wanted to return. Because most people are inside by default in my mind, it does sometimes feel like I'm acting on some universal moral to benefit everyone (or however else you would describe a 1) even if it's not really the case

I don’t think it’s as simple as pro vs. re. As an 8 who tested at almost 0% for any type 1 traits, I think both 8’s and 1’s fight for a just society - the difference is that 1ms believe that a just society is achieved through order, safety, rules and restriction and they are zealous self-discipline and an 8 believes justice is found in liberation, freedom, and are supporters of self-governance, we hold more anti-government sentiments. 1’s also seem to have much more internal conflict than any 8. 1’s are highly critical of themselves because of their rigid standard of acceptability; that perfectionism often leads to self-doubt as they are at war not only to perfect the outer world, but at war within to perfect themselves - 8’s are only at war with the outer world, and tend to have high self esteem because they don’t seek perfection if only because they hate details - so we experience very low levels of neuroticism or anxiety. 1’s are motivated to gain control but trust themselves to use it wisely. 8’s are motivated to gain control to prevent it from being used against them or any one else.

From my observations a lot of ENTJ’s get blindly typed as e8 when they are almost always e3 sx1 or sx6. On PDB people rarely type ENTJ’s as 6’s, and it bothers me because I’ll see the most obvious sx6 typed as e8 because they’re mean or e3 because they have goals. Same goes for sx1.

the two most dislikeable Enneagram types for me but I think that has more to do with the very unhealthy ones. Anyhow this just furthers my opinion that a entj and a intj I know are both 8s and a estj I had to live with for two months was a 1.

Jennifer Howard I got 1,5,8, but the 8 doesnt fit as good as the 1 and 5. Have you ever seen an ENTJ type 5, if yes, does he have traits of a 1 ?

i was still unsure about my type til the very end of the vid because i didn’t relate that much with the inner circle aspect of the enneagram eight type; i’m not a loyal person at all and if someone does something i believe is wrong, i won’t care whether they are my friend, my family, etc. i won’t protect them. but the anger part really made me realize i have in fact an eight fix. i can sometimes take pride in being angry or irritated, which definitely could sound weird to people but that’s what it is. the more healthy i get in my life the more i see eight traits in me. very interesting video, thank you! 5 > 7 > 4 > 8 > 1 > 3 > 6 > 2 > 9 5w4 548 (5w4-8w7-4w5) so/sx

Why do you nearly never associate type 8 with ENTJs? It’s funny to me because they’re one of the ones that are very often type 8. Or is that a misconception? What’s your reason for leaving them out?
