A few notes: -Don't despise what is good because of that which is corrupt. Folks may do something wrong, or abuse something good, in order to 'get their way': counterfeits actions. This does not mean the real thing doesn't exist. -Don't ignore what good you have been given - you specifically! Seek to use it to glorify God, instead. -Don't seek to be dour when the Spirit calls you to joy. Why would you want to be unhappy? To fit in with people are also unhappy? To pout? -Don't live contrary to the Spirit. You know the fruits of the spirit, right? If not, refresh your mind on them. I need to do that more often, I think. Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. What do each of those mean? Each one, individually? What's their opposite? It's wise to think them over.

You know that bell of clarity that goes off in our hearts and minds when we know for certain we're hearing the truth? I can hear it, praise God. Good thing I've not yet submitted an article I wrote yesterday on being filled with the Spirit, in contrast with the indwelling at regeneration-I now see something that needs amended. TY!

Brothers/ sisters, what now to do now after grieving the Holy spirit? It's been months now. I'm in terror and grief. Been running after God more than ever before but sleeplessnes and all sadness has kept in. Is there a light to the tunnel? Is this it?

Confess your sins to Jesus, and repent. Ask Jesus to help you. "The flesh is weak but the spirit is willing"

@@furios2203 exactly bro. Been there for months. All Zero to negative feelings. No answers no joy no peace etc, could not sleep, nightmares, depression, anxiety etc. But kept on praying kept on fasting, kept on running after Him, had help with other believers. And hoped and fought. Long story short, He is there, he kept giving small lights when im at the total brink to quit and just end it all.. all the time He was there. I needed it so bad cause it's totally changing my Faith and character. I've never become this diligent and trusting in the Lord ever. I've never hated sin this much. I can now see the purpose and fruit. Don't you ever quit brother. Remember Jacob wrestling with God. Deuteronomy 31:08 "The Lord himself goes before you and He will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Di not be afraid, do not be discouraged."

I fear I've grieved the spirit! My life is becoming a mess and it's all my fault! I think this is it! There's no way to be saved now I believe! Hebrews 6:4-6 also states this. I prayed to God and told him I feel far from him, to speak to me and Hebrews 6 and 7 was put in my mind and when I read 6, I feel that 4-6 was the answer he gave me. I don't know what to do.

How have you not trusted him? I’m asking this because you’re understanding I also struggle with. But I know God has never forsaken me, I say this because of things he’s literally done , that’s undeniable. And I’ve back slidden,struggled for ten years with blasphemous thoughts, fear even anger. But I pray, I’m learning how to be more engaged to God , trying to keep purposeful sin out of my life, I plan to attack sin by planning for spiritual success. I like dr.miles Monroe. You need to fight your flesh. I’m not saying you should ignore what you think God said but, God isn’t unmerciful. Like in the story of Jonah. Maybe fasting is necessary for you right now, to just take some time to be in prayer and worship and reading the word, and ask God forgiveness and repent. It works for me and I don’t believe I’m any better then you. Maybe you should write down sins you need to repent from. And read them, think about why they happen and learn your triggers so you can pray and prepare against them. I believe these are all good ideas. Im going to be more diligent in doing it myself. Sorry I have a hard time finishing things, but saying this to you, encouraged me,You can’t die.

But your message is hopeful. I know he hasn't forsaken me. It was the devil speaking to me at that time telling me I'm far beyond his grace. Thank you so much. Yeah my thoughts at that time was that because I was diagnosed with a tumour and immediately my spiritual life spiralled out of control, I trusted, I hated, I repented, I got angry, I was confused. But I knew I brought it upon myself. But most of all I knew I didn't trust him. I turned to other things to get an answer I thought at the time he wasn't giving.

So if you realize you are grieving the Spirit through suppressing fruit (for me this plays out as impatience with my children), what do you do when you've repented of it repeatedly but it's just a continual struggle? It feels so defeating and I'm tempted to go into works based thinking where I believe God is angry with me bc I'm not performing well.

sarah s thank you so much for the encouragement! it's crazy you mention abiding bc the Lord has really been showing me the last week that lack of abiding is alot of my issue. it's a continual temptation to not look to him and just react. I've done alot of praying lately for him to help me learn more and more how to abide in him contiually.

Would you say that remaining in and committing sin also can have a quenching effect on the way the holy spirit is working in your life? Not to say that the holy spirit wont still work in your heart while you are in sin but that you might not be growing spiritually as you would like while in habitual sin?

TheNewton777 hello, i think when we continue in habitual sin it Grieves the Holy Spirit(ephesians 4:30), and when you read Ephesians chapter 4, we can understand what kind of actions grieve him. when it comes to Quenching, its more accociated with suppressing the holy spirit to Flame and do his work in you through his gifts and fruits. I would like to see John Piper's take on John MacArthur, John MacArthur seems to be a person who believes that the major workings of the holy Spirit have been done away with, the major workings of the holy Ghost have been done away with the passing away of the original apostles, by his teachings I gather that he doesn't really believe that God works that way anymore.... No its a lie that quenches the Holy Spirit. Jesus says that greater works than Him will we do. Nowhere in the Bible does it mention that the gifts are out of function actually it commands us to use the gift that we have from the Holy Spirit.

When we repent in faith, Jesus Christ is the one that causes the Spirit not to be grieved. Our sins are paid for on the cross and He makes us into a new creation. He does this through His Spirit who is not grieved by doing the works that Christ has prepared beforehand in us and through us (Ephesians 2).

Do not take all of the bible as the word of God, especially the ideas of the Apostles. The primitive men who wrote those books had great difficulty comprehending universal truth and in many cases they purposely changed things because they didn't like it. This idea of spirit has been very confused. One member of the Trinity is Spirit. Spirit is an actual being. The Spirit being is not to be worshipped. The word spirit also applies to the soul, while this is technically correct the soul is not to be worshipped, only appreciatted. The term "Holy Spirit" is something I will go into too much detail about, but, essentially, it is a fragment of God and it gives a person the ability to perform critical thinking.
