Eric Holder famously said "That law wasn't meant for you people." It all comes back to the mantra in politics "It's OK when we do it". For the most part the courts agree with him. The expansion of welfare did more to damage black families than Jim Crow. Blacks were less likely to grow up in a single parent family before the government expanded welfare.

Al Sharpton figured this out decades ago.
@erichwagner69583 ай бұрын
Here’s another good example. There was this grifter on a podcast one time that claimed an issue (that he just made a movie about) was affecting “millions” of kids in the US. He also claimed that he was an “expert” on the topic and it was the thing he was “most passionate about”. This made it all the more hilarious when the podcaster pulled up a peer reviewed study that showed this issue only actually affected less than 5,000 kids over a 5 year period. I think this perfectly illustrates how little these grifters actually care about the issues they champion. They only care about fear mongering to their audience so they can easily grift to them. He inflated the problem in his own head so much that he estimated it affected 400X more kids than it actually did and this so called expert didn’t care enough to research how many kids that it actually affected. Oh by the way that so called expert’s name was Matt Walsh and the Podcaster who fact checked him was Joe Rogan. Matt is no better than the people he is rightly calling out in this film. He just does it from the far right instead of the far left.

But he was an Indentured servant, which was distinct from a slave as they could work off their debt and be free again. Johnson went to court believing his black slave ended his service early without repaying his debt, and the courts agreed with Johnson after an appeals. Their verdict was life long enslavement, thus becoming the first legal slave written into law by legislature. Before that, there were cases of indentured slaves that were given time extensions to their debts that went pass life expectancy or a money amount so high they could never pay it off, thus indentured for life.
