I'm at a point in my life where I'm starting to realize that the last thing I need is a relationship. I've never been in a real relationship before and I've always fantasized about it. I'm only 21 and I'm starting to learn that it was all peer pressure. I'm slowly stepping out of that mentality and it's not easy. I'm praying and shifting my focus on my relationship with God because I know that if I was in a relationship now, I'd fully consumed by it and not give my attention to God. My question is, I really don't wanna be in a relationship now because I need to grow and I know how immature I am-- spiritually and mentally. I've been talking to this guy for a while and he wants to be friends but hoping to get to know me to date in the future. The more I talk to him, the more I feel attracted to him and I don't want it. Should I just cut off my connection with him for now? Because I've tried to control my stupid feelings and I hate that they won't go away. What would you do in my situation? I'm not ready to make room for guys in my life now.

Hey girl! I love that you are devoted to building your relationsihp with Christ and using your singleness for self-development. However, I'm noticing that your language around relationships is very negative and I'm worried that you are more shaming yourself, than you are accepting who you are and what you want (subconciously). So, what I would suggest is that you are 100% honest with yourself. Don't dismiss somebody's attention because you want to prove a point, instead put boundaries in place that will allow you to enjoy the friendship and stay focused at the same time. I think a lot of times we don't trust ourselves to be able to control our feelings, so we dismiss them all together. But that is not healthy. Good luck!

@@JustineMfulama Thank you for responding! Yes, I struggle with trying to suppress my feelings. I do not trust myself around guys so I avoid even being just friends with them from the fear of catching feelings and misreading them being nice to me as flirting with me. That is one of the things that tell me that I am not ready if I can't get past this stage. Did you ever feel that way? if so, how did you deal with it?

I have been divorced for almost 7 years . i have a drop dead gorgeous friend that keeps letting me know she really likes me . I am not ready to try to have a relationship yet and have told her that . We could just have some play time , but worried it may ruin the friendship that we have .

The only reason that is telling me to wait is “what do i want from this relationship” so I’m kindly asking you, what i seek in a relationship?? Cuz i met a really good guy and it was supposed to be a casual thing but we both caught feelings so we started dating exclusively, and maybe it’ll progress into a relationship
