I don’t really care what any particular person BELIEVES. You may believe that there is an old man with a white beard perched in the clouds, that the Ultimate Reality is a young blackish-blue Indian guy, that the universe is eternal, that Mother Mary was a certifiable virgin, or that gross physical matter is the foundation of existence. The ONLY thing that really matters is your meta-ethics, not your meta-physics. Do you consider any form of non-monarchical governance (such as democracy or socialism) to be beneficial? Do you unnecessarily destroy the lives of poor, innocent animals and gorge on their bloody carcasses? Do you believe homosexuality and transvestism is moral? Do you consider feminist ideology to be righteous? If so, then you are objectively immoral and your so-called “enlightened/awakened” state is immaterial, since it does not benefit society in any way.

Man I gotta say, your channel is insane, I'm a complete newbie to philosophy and a couple of your videos have taught me a lot. You have a way of engaging with your guests that also allows even laymen viewers to follow along so that's great. Please keep this up I can see this channel being huge in the future

This is so encouraging! Thank you, this is a major goal of mine so it's great to hear that it's working with at least one person 🙌

Admittedly I'm not a degreed philosopher myself, but: Why doesn't every Frankfurt case implicitly assume/affirm/acknowledge free will and thus requiring some type of device that limits or interferes with the subject's decision making capacities? It's a kind of 'getting off the ground' hurdle I struggle to overcome with this type of thought experiments. Thanks

I like Cyr's proposal, but I ultimately side with Bradford Stockdale's new "Gary the Guru" Frankfurt-style case. He just published it a couple years ago from his dissertation!

I'll have to check that one out! Thanks for the tip bro!

@ Stockdale explains his case a bit more succinctly in his episode on the Free Will Show. And Cyr also briefly mentions Stockdale's Frankfurt case in a footnote in the paper he was discussing in your episode as an alternative view to dismantling the fine-grained flicker. All good stuff.

In regards to drugs, I wonder what you would say the application here is when it comes to mental health. There seems to be an implication on Parker's view that developing muscle through steroid use is of less value but that involves importing the moral assumptions of the analogy itself in which case it's not very helpful. I think the argument against steroids is only robust as it relates to athletic competition but has some negative connotations aside and that's too ambiguous by itself. Let alone the fact steroids are used in medicinal applications. Also morality isn't a competition and to treat it as one is ironically to fall into the vices of pride and envy. If someone is born with a particular neurology that consistently adds resistance to their ability to act with diligence and responsibility then I think there's a reasonable argument for saying that it's wise to take medication that ameliorates that resistance. I think the difference is how we understand normality and the appropriateness of correcting for abnormality or undue weakness and taking something when someone doesn't have a particular disadvantage of this nature. I think this is also very important when we engage transhumanism and consider the implications of categorically rejecting relevant technology as they may be used to deal with physical disability whether someone might be missing their legs physically or have neurological damage a neural link device can resolve. That doesn't force you to believe that neural link technology should be used for modern convenience or media experience though... I wonder also, if someone use steroids because they are a rescue operative and has no intention of being involved in competitive sport, does it matter that their use of steroids increases their ability to prevent death and harm to individuals? It seems entirely counterintuitive to me to have some sort of a priori claim that the steroid use makes any difference. The people being saved aren't likely to see the person as less heroic if they found out he's juicing. Seems there's a positive argument to be made for taking every advantage that could potentially affect ones ability to create positive change in the world around them.
