These are very good words. I'm almost 52, and I'm probably in the prime of my worship ministry leadership. We have implemented technology and automation to make the services go extremely smooth and we maintain a great balance of (modernize) hymns, new music, some throwbacks and even an original here and there. I think the key to staying in this and maintaining effectiveness is in the realm of staying "relevant." Being aware of yourself, your surroundings, the church culture and the state of the world at that moment. Yes, teaching others for sure. I look forward to the day that I pass the torch to those I've helped mentor. And also always learning. New songs, new techniques, new tech, new leadership skills etc. And I'm not talking just learning from those who have gone before or learning new skills, but also adopting a posture of learning from those you lead. I am regularly amazed at the things I learn from the younger folks on my team, both musically and spiritually. We are never done learning and learning can come from any source. The real signs of the end are when you just start to "phone it in."

Thanks Ryland for a great video! I hope this message will encourage some of you. I am the media manager for a large church and run 3 PTZ cameras, Propresenter, and an x32 sound board for both in house and live streaming every Sunday. I've programmed a Stream Deck and Atem with macros to control most everything...but it's fast and furious and I'm 70 years old! My thoughts are : God will let you know when you are too old to do your job. Until then, keep doing what you love with the gifts that He's given you. Quality is what matters, not your age.

Thank you. I've been contemplating this myself and asking myself a lot of these same questions. I'm still leading a lot and training others at the same time, but I think I will be transitioning more into "the Man behind the scenes" type of role sometime in the next few years if I can train up some more competent worship leaders.

Great thoughts to consider. I find that when you become a silent servant that just makes things happen many don't understand what it takes to accomplish the ministry goals. Not a "look at me" statement but a realization that although others sincerely appreciate your efforts they are just unaware of all you do and the potential for highly visible distractions when something goes wrong in your absence. You may need to make specific plans to be the mentor so that others can be lifted up - not necessary for your specific position but for God's glory even elsewhere. BTW - You forgot the tennis balls on your walker

I rate this vlog the same as the "I quit" video: thoughtful and reflective of the "I won't be here forever" mindset. For the past few jobs I've had, one of the first priorities is making a "how to" list of my job. This includes videos, screen captures and scripts for voice-overs. The question I ask myself is, "If I'm killed tomorrow, can someone with little or no experience go through the documentation and do my job?" It's amazing the amount of detail needed. But yet.... Further to your thoughts later in the video, how many worship pastors create a stable of people who can do their role on a moment's notice? People get sick or bow out for one reason or another. We have a lot of talented people at our church, but none were put in charge of anything until our former worship pastor announced he was leaving four months ago. Perhaps job security was a big driver for him emotionally? I don't know. Thanks for the perspective. It wouldn't surprise me that insecure worship pastors/leaders wouldn't even watch this through.

I appreciate this video a lot. I didn't become a worship leader until just over a year ago, right before I hit 43 years old. I was a little worried that I was starting too late, but man, God has given me 100x more energy to be about His work than I had before I took over as the leader.

I noticed you have an ASL interpreter. Do you have a group of deaf people that attend? Did you start because of a church member family, or did you start just trying to be welcoming to all. (Kind of the "chicken or the egg" question). Is this volunteer driven as well or do you have to pay for an interpreter? Our church doesn't have this and I'm just curious how you guys handle it.

It stated 25 years ago when our pastor at the time had a wife who was deaf. It built a community of ASL interpreters and has been going ever since. Volunteers.

I just wanted to say thank you for your positivity, This past year I’ve really struggled in ministry, I’m a singer and have wanted to be a permanent part of my worship team for 2 years now, but the music minister at church keeps telling me to wait. A couple weeks ago I finally figured out what he has been trying to tell me for over a year. Long story. short is this: we need a vocalist coordinator, and on top of that our pastor is retiring in June and no one knows yet who the new pastor is going to be at our church. Suffice it to say, there are a lot of unknowns at the moment I’m holding onto hope that sometime later this year, I will become a permanent part of the worship team, But that is still to be determined. Also, the comment you made about never being too old to lead worship, thank you so much for that. I’ve always felt like I stepped into my church and approached the music master at the wrong time. You are so right about different churches, running their worship teams differently. That is something I still struggle to understand even though I’ve been told this many times. Prayers for you and your wonderful ministry, love these vlogs so much. Thank you for sharing your ministry with us. All the best, Jamie

Great vid. Love ending my day to these Sunday vlogs. (Q) what camera do you recommend that has good auto focus and stabilization? Right now I have a gh4. Should I get the 35-140mm stabilized lens? is it any good for handheld?
@RylandRussell
@RylandRussell Жыл бұрын
Thanks a bunch! Depends on budget. Cheapest would be g85 combined with a panasonic lens that is stabilized. Like a 35-100. Gh5 is even better. Gh6 the next step up.
