Just re-watched the video, and something occurred to me Because of the absolutely bizarre way Magic damage is calculated in this game, most spells become progressively weaker after roughly level 30, with the damage floor being 160. So in what can only be described as the gods themselves looking upon you and laughing, by leveling to 180 before you switched to the MP drain strategy, you actually made the fight harder Absolutely amazing video, keep up the good work

King Titanite here. Was trying this around 2 years ago when the remaster came out but life fucked me over at the last hurdle and I dropped the run at Lucifer. As far as I'm aware, Deus is the fourth person to attempt hard solo no NG+, and the first to beat TDE. I'm planning to still go for a Lucy kill without mana draining him sometime in the coming weeks but I honestly doubt I'll get it anytime soon.

fun fact about Alciel. the way reflect damage is calculated it takes into account all buffs and debuffs of the target making the reflected attack. if you taunt Alciel twice and then spam attack mirrors he can drop VERY quickly. this strat can be used for a few bosses and i love it so much.

So do any of ya'll wanna hear a story? This is the game that made me, as a young boy, distrust the hell out of Game Informer and video game news media outlets. I got this game on PS2 when I saw an entire page in Game Informer magazine dedicated to it. It was my first M rated game, too, and I had to promise my mother I would be able to handle it. The review for it ended up in the magazine a couple issues later, by which point I had sunk hours into it (I sucked immensely as I had never touched an RPG of this caliber other than Pokemon) and... They gave it a 7. They called it average. This game, one of the most successful RPGs of all time. The game that managed among critics an 8/10 or above, this game, that people have been clamoring for an HD remaster of for years. This game, one of the highlights of what is undoubtedly the golden age of console/handheld JRPGs. This game, that had to compete with FFX, Kingdom Hearts, Xenosaga and .Hack and still managed to be successful...This game they called average. Keep in mind, their idea of a 7 at the time was something completely unremarkable or even boring in its average-ness. Competent, but not amazing or great. No real heavy appeal. When I got way older and owned a PS3, I went back to this game with my physical disk and beat it twice, the first time for the neutral ending, and the second time on hard mode for the true demon ending. And at that point I remembered that review score, and wondered how a game I was willing to do this with, sinking over 120 hours into, could be considered average by anyone. And at that point, I swore to just never trust a review site using numbered scores ever again. Videos like this one do so much more to showcase what a goddamn golden game this is than any fucking gaming magazine ever could. I am so glad we've all collectively moved the fuck on from this shit and genuine actual fans and gaming enthusiasts are sharing their thoughts instead.

I felt the same sorrow during the Asakusa chapter. The manikins had been nothing but hospitable to me, they were the only true allies I felt I had in the hell that Tokyo had become, besides my own demons and, eventually, Lucifer. When Yosuga attacked, I was devastated, and I fought those three angels like they were the final boss, desperate to change what I already knew was going to happen. After that, I dedicated my struggle to the manikins, and to Futomimi. I resolved to end the cycle of destruction and creation for their sake, so that existence itself may finally know some manner of peace, free from the toxic influence of the demons and the Great Will. ...Yeah I get way too immersed in games.

While I didn't get as attached to the manikins, I did feel disgust that they were so abused and finally wiped out by Chiaki. Hers was the only Reason I was leaning a little bit towards because I saw how much she had struggled and survived on her own. However, the hypocrisy of taking in a demon's power and then using it to wipe out an entire group simply for being "weak" was infuriating. Like, damn girl! They're just _you_ from ten minutes ago! Why not connect with their suffering and raise them up to be powerful as well, like you are now!? Every single character with a Reason is a massive hypocrite. The guy who wants isolation relies on you to do everything for him. The girl who values strength had to get it from someone else and then used it against the weak with no shred of irony. The man who wishes to destroy man's passion and create a reality of peace triggers a chaotic, world ending disaster where he ruthlessly controls and tries to stomp out the competition just to get what he wants. The woman doesn't even have a Reason herself, she's just depressed and jaded about the world, so she makes everyone else, but mostly you, decide how things should go for her. Every single Reson is a logistical mess, with Rejection/Freedom being the most tolerable of the OG endings to me. I can't believe the True Demon ending wasn't in the first release of the game! It's dark to sacrifice an entire universe for true freedom, but it's arguably the best route!

I had to take a few moments just sinking in how much effort it took to complete this challenge. And I thought beating Demifiend in SMT V with no demons was obnoxious enough. The fact that your first run was not doable because of a small mistake like removing Rakunda just astounds me, and the fact that you had to beat the game again just to get rakunda again just wows me how much your dedicated with this challenge (even if you played the game on merciful difficulty, you still didn’t had a fast forward to fasten things up). Needless to say I subbed to your channel, it may not be much as a reward for the agonizing 800+ hours it took to best this challenge, but you have my highest respect for completing this. Thank you so much.

I finished the game yesterday and I gotta just say. Jesus Christ. When you said you restarted the run for Rakunda, I was in shock. I can't even imagine the PAIN of going through the puzzle boy minigame and all the dungeons alone again, even on Merciful. This run is absolutely bonkers.

I’m playing on hard mode currently and god man I can appreciate just how fucked this game’s difficulty can just spike at anytime. I hope the Persona games can learn a thing or 2 when it comes to difficulty. Also thank you for putting out this content I love long challenge runs like this.

Like if you get abushed and targeted, the enemy crits you multiple times after you miss and so on. The player is super frail and in my one play thought I did I learned that hyper offense is the only strategy most of the time, since you are not bulky enough to tank hits

I’m still kinda torn on which game I should start with but I settled on Nocturne. I would not wish that final lucifer fight on my worst enemy. Jesus even 6 hours of draining mana sounds like torture, the initial 11 hours must have been so brutal. Also the foreshadowing on that puzzle minigame was hilarious, completely forgot about that up to that point.
