Storyline: It feels good to be bad...Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. I wonder if they will do Suicide Squad 2! If Heath Ledger was alive this movie would have been on a whole different level! Viola Davis nailed it as Amanda Waller! Margot Robbie said she is going to co produce Harley Quinn spin off it comes out in 2019 So Harley Quinn gets her own movie I can't wait! Margot Robbie nailed Harley Quinn and she was perfect! Gotta say, the new movie made Flag's character way more likeable. He went from an emotionless soldier who didn't even care when his boss murdered her own subordinates, to a guy who genuinely wanted to help the people of Corto Maltese earn their freedom, and went against Amanda Waller when he learned how the US government was behind all the atrocities committed for Project Starfish. Glow-up of the decade, IMO. Edit: Well, this blew up. I feel like I should clarify that I'm not speaking objectively here; my opinions on Gunn's Suicide Squad vs. Suicide Squad 2016 are my own. If you liked Flag's character in the old movie, I'm not trying to challenge that opinion, and I don't want to start an argument. Just putting my thoughts out there, is all.

I think that they should've made rick flag as bloodsport since in the comics, bloodsport became who he is after his brother died fighting for the country.. Would make more sense to why he was so triggered after finding out abt project starfish. It's such a waste that they made Idris Elba's character to have the same story as will Smith's deadshot.. The scene where he decides to save the city could've given deadshot an arc. Plus, WB couldn't care less abt making the prequel of how superman went to the icu.. Last but not least, it would've given more stakes to the actual "main" or badass characters in the movie. N that's fair for Polka-dot Man. Rip milton🙏

@@thomasshepherd7207 In all fairness, I think a lot of character differences between the original film and this one can be attributed to the fact that this movie is more of a soft reboot than a direct sequel. The DCEU isn't really trying to establish a solid continuity between films as it is just giving directors the freedom to make whatever kinds of films they want, with actors playing the same characters between films. I personally think it works better that way, since it allows for more creative freedom and because it means that newer fans don't have a laundry list of films to watch for context on new ones (i.e., the MCU), but I understand how the changes can be frustrating for fans of the original movie, or at least those who wanted more characters from the original movie to have their own arcs continued in the new one.

True, how they had to show Deadshot attacking Batman despite his daughter asking him not to, making her hate him, showing him regretting what he did and giving more weight to the scene where Enchantress tries to stop him by showing him the illusion of his daughter. The problem with the film is not just the editing (which sucks anyway), it's really badly written at the base: these characters are good when they should be assholes and they are assholes when they should be good.

@@leonidasoneoneseven And above all they would have brought home what should be the real message behind Suicide Squad or other stories like this (like The Dirty Dozen or Escape from New York): the real asshole is not the criminal on the team, but the government that makes them. controls and manipulates everyone. Besides that the scene doesn't even make much sense, those presumably are normal Waller's colleagues, what could they possibly testify? It would make sense if she voluntarily freed Enchantress to let the government use the Suicide Squad by letting it get out of hand, forcing her to kill her assistants to cover up her involvement.

People are criticizing Flag’s lack of reaction to this, but it was probably something he was expecting to happen. He’s worked with Waller enough to know that she’d probably do something like that, and there would be no point in getting angry with her about it in the middle of a mission. To me he seems less like he’s okay with it, and more like he’s resigned to it. He knows that there’s not much he can do to stop her. If he made a move before she attacked, then the FBI would have turned on him not knowing that Waller would kill them. He was too far away from her to stop her from killing all of them once she started unless he shot her. He’s still far from ideal, but he’s not completely uncaring about what just happened.

In Flag's mind, the difference between himself and someone like Deadshot is that Deadshot only kills for himself, and he does it for money. Flag feels he does what he does for his country. He follows Waller's orders because he has to. Doesn't make him right, but that's why he harps on Deadshot so much and begrudgingly accepts all that Waller does.

WRONG! in the comics she's even worse, constantly having multiple agendas at once (even the government don't mess with Amanda in the comics) and batman knows she kills. The reason batman never takes her down is because she knows way too much (information that she has gained throughout her like) to be sent in jail plus, amanda serves as an information tool for batman when it comes to govemnent activity (hidden government plots and classified infor) and in return she won't expose Bruce's identity. Batman also serve her information about the underworld/JL activities and amanda usual is the one who makes the arrests and such hence there is a suicide squad. The movie doesn't do a good job on exploring the characters complexities and trust me she is one of the best villains in DC.

That scene literally sent a cold chill down my spine. I knew she was ruthless, but I actually could not believe what I saw. The character of Amanda Waller epitomizes evil, she is not concerned with anything beyond advancing her career and protecting her interests even if that means murdering innocent men and women. If the Joker did that, I would still have light-years more respect for him than I do for Waller because he doesn't pretend he is doing it "because he has to". He loves doing it. Amanda's bald-faced hypocrisy is what makes her so detestable. PS. Viola Davis did an amazing job of bringing out how cold and cruel Amanda is. Kinda like Jack Gleeson playing Joffery in Game of Thrones. I hate the villain, but love the actor playing them.

It would have made more sense if Waller had freed Enchantress to let the government use her project, effectively building a pretext to use the team but letting the situation get out of hand: in this case it would have made sense that she would kill those who knew of her involvement, showing us maybe Flag more upset and justifying his subsequent solidarity with the team. This film is very badly written, it didn't take much and it could be credible (despite having a stupid premise at the base: this group should be a sort of Black Ops who accidentally finds themselves in a supernatural situation, it makes no sense to make them an anti-Superman team since What can the psychiatrist with the baseball bat and the robber with the boomerangs do against a god?).

Waller still thinks that she's doing all of this for the good of the country. This was a random assortment of FBI guys that the higher-ups probably assigned to the mission. So she can kill them and justify it as necessary evil. But the other group is her team that has been working on these missions for a long time, and their actions actually ended up working out for the better. I lost all immersion the moment this happened. I understand what they were going for: making it clear that the ones pulling the Squad's strings are every bit as "evil" as the villains themselves. Also reinforcing Amanda's cold, calculating persona. But it just comes across as random and utterly out-of-character. Perhaps not for Waller, obviously she's a bad lady (though there are better and subtler ways of making that point clear than a heavy-handed scene like this). And of course Floyd isn't going to rock the boat. But Rick? Nothing before or after this point suggested that Flag is the kind of guy who would watch a bunch of loyal, innocent compatriots get slaughtered for doing their job and not only be okay with it, but crack jokes and condone the whole thing. Like, what are we supposed to learn as an audience here? Rick's a self-righteous hypocrite who has no value as a protagonist alongside the rest of the Squad because he's now a mindless unrelatable drone with zero agency? Mission accomplished, I guess.

Rick has to side with Waller to protect his girlfriend, whom she's constantly holding over his head, and follow her orders even if it includes standing by while Waller is killing innocent agents. He's already expressed how using villains to protect the US is a bad idea but had to go along with it for June's sake. June is pretty much his top priority throughout the movie, the way I see it. He's being controlled just as much as these villains are.

I think one of the main reasons a lot of people did not like this movie is that there was not really anyone to root for. Even Batman, at his worst, still jumped into harm's way to protect the innocent. For Suicide Squad, it might have been Flagg and Amanda Waller, who we could have found respect for as a no-nonsense leader. Then, she brought in agents to clean up a mess, knowing full well they did not have a the proper security clearance. Then, she murders them in cold blood. Maybe that was so she could gain the respect of the Squad, but it lost respect for her from me and many movie-goers. Plus, the blasé reactions of Flagg and Deadshot undercut the full weight of her act. Deadshot killed people for money; he didn't just kill them for the hell of it. And one wonders if Flagg had done the killing, would any regular soldier or agent ever want to work for him again. There is badass and there is sadistic. Waller was just sadistic. There was no reason for her to do what she did for the audience's sake.

In addition Waller was the one to give the FBI information so technically she is the one committing treason. When she gets back she will need to stand trial for information leaking and the unlawful killing of federal agents. I know its a movie and its just to show how cold hearted she can be. But the fact that everyone already knows that the monsters exist/waller's involvement and the suicide squad are immune to the security clearance requirements is just a gaping plot hole. Unless President Luthor gives her a full pardon that is.

Amanda Waller, whether you hate her or you love her you can’t deny she’s ruthless.

I was completely fine with Deadshot's reaction to Amanda killing the personnel since he is a highly morally ambiguous character but Flag's reaction was so out of character that its insulting. He is supposed to be the paradigm of goodness and righteousness. He is basically Captain America without the serum. If this scene stayed true to his character, he would have been aghast and would have instantly fought back against Waller and possibly even sacrificed his life to stand up for the personnel or suffer other dire consequences. And yet his reaction seems to be even more nonchalant than that of Deadshot. Could be boiled down to the poor writing I guess.

Here you can see why the new movie is so superior. In this one the characters just give lazy expository dialogue the hole time like: "I'm the bad guy" "She's an evil lady". "We are some kind of suicide squad ". In the good one they just show it.

Most gangster part of the movie, love viola, but Rick Flag should have been the moral voice in that scene.
