went back to gel recently after having a nightmare working with builder gel. in all honesty, it was my mistake as I was really impatient with the removal. my nails were paper thin, super sensitive and sore, and looked really rough. now that my nails are back to normal, I’m growing them out with just good old normal gel again. thanks for this!

Hey now peel off gels are really famous and lasts for weeks and protect nails from any damage. Hope you doing great. I used to have the same issue even with proper removal process,acetone damaged my natural nails
@j4lyphe17 ай бұрын
I just did builder gel and had it on for too long... I was picking my mum up from the airport and cracked my right thumb and it tore almost half way of the nail. My nails are still super damaged and it seems some of the nail got lifted as there is less of the pink nail bed itself left and more of the "white" part... I'm trying to nurse them back to some sort of health even though I don't think they'll ever go back to normal visually... I regret doing builder gel so much. I thought it would help my nails out because I'm a nurse (been working for a year) and my natural nails basically died-- they got super thin and weak and were always peeling and breaking... I'll never try builder gel again and I have had bad experiences with regular gel also because of overzealous drill use instead of waiting to soak them off. So I think once my nails get a bit stronger, I will try to do my own gel Manis at home.

@@j4lyphe1 super thin bendy peeling nails too! Gel doesn't last when your nails just bend though. It chips in days for me

The same thing happened to me when I used Builder gel on my nails. I never ever had thin nails, but my nails were so thin and sore afterwards. I completely just stopped using the Builder gel. I'm so happy to know that this didn't just happen to me, and I'm so happy to hear that you got your nails back to normal. Mine is slowly getting there as well

I switched to DND gel polish and it stays true to color and as shiny as the first day I did my nails. This is coming from an ER Catscan tech who is constantly washing her hands. I still love gelish but I feel like the top coat gets dull and the sanitizer changes the color.

I'm finding the new builder gels many brands have, or BIAB, to be so good I don't ever have to buff the nail to prepare anymore! Something worth checking out. But I rarely do a full remove, just buff off the colour and some of the builder and fill in.

The easiest way (IMO obviously) is to use a rubber base to protect your natural nails. After the initial application, you don't have to remove all of it, you leave a thin layer to protect your nails. There are 2 ways I do it, the first is just removing color because I get bored with it. I use a carbide bit to remove the color only, then I use a hand file to smooth the remaining rubber base. Then use a flame bit to gently lift the proximal nail fold to remove any rubber base or cuticle from that area and also the side walls. After cleaning off dust and prepping with alcohol, I apply a very small amount of rubber base near that proximal nail fold like a tiny "fill" with a detail brush, then I apply my new color and top coat. The second way I do about every 2-3 weeks, and it involves taking down that rubber base to check for lifting and then applying new layers. I use the carbide bit to remove color, then a sanding band to remove rubber base. Once I can see my real nail plate I switch to a strong hand file (100/180) and continue to thin it. I also shape my nails at that time. If it lifts at all, I find that rubber base lifts in tiny round patches that are easily filled and self level with the next application.

Hi! So, im a teenager, and im trying to learn how to do gel manicures. Do i have to do things like trim my cuticles, and apply oils, and do the spray stuff at the end and things of that nature? Obviously, buff and shape the nails, i plan on learning to do gel polish on press-ons as well. But i was wondering if i could just push my cuticles back, buff and shape, and apply the foundation coat, and start painting, or does it require all the extras?
@shanicegrande863124 күн бұрын
You dont even need to push back cuticles. Just file buff polish and ur done.

@tiffanydagostino4624 Жыл бұрын
I actually do this all the time. I have a gel overlay (it’s pretty much gel as a base) and then I paint my nails with regular polish, and regular top coat. I prefer this method mainly because I like to switch my polish frequently. But you have to let the gel fully cure. You can’t have it as a gel base, regular nail color and gel top coat. Unless the regular polish is fully dry. I believe Amanda has another video on gel overlay. KZbin is great for that.

@AmandaBellaa Жыл бұрын
Oh no! Peeling gel is usually a result of poor prep. Make sure you rough up the nail a bit (I like to do so just around the perimeter) so that the base coat adheres! Try to keep your nails out of water (wear dish gloves at the sink), and don't use your nails to pick or scratch at anything.

You could be doing too thick of a coat. When you do that the gel doesn't dry fully on the inside only the surface. Make sure you're also taking the top coat and "capping" the tips of your nails, which means just swipe the top coat on the tips so the entire nail is sealed in
