Thanks for this tutorial. It took me several tries to get it right, but I finally did. After completing 20 rows I can now identify if I've made a mistake each time I start a peak or valley. This keeps me from tearing out an entire row by addressing the issue sooner.

13:48 Thank you so much! It was especially helpful to me when you pointed out that my increase should always be in the second and then the first double crochet of the “V’s”, and then I’ll know I’m still on the right track. That prevented a lot of errors as I learned. 😊😊😊

Just finished this as my first blanket project! (Typically I do amigurumi) I’ve attempted blankets before but never finished them. I got this one finished in about 3 weeks and made it a 40x40ish square. I did 7 thicker sections with 6 rows and did a thinner section between each thick sections with 3 rows. And added 13 chains in the beginning. It’s lovely and I can’t wait to gift it at a baby shower in February with a matching amigurumi dinosaur!

I bought this pattern in your Etsy shop. Working with the pattern & tutorial I was able to recognize certain stitches to fix problems earlier & earlier. It is by far the easiest pattern I’ve tried for a Chevron afghan. The other patterns went into a box. Thank you for the easy to understand pattern and the tutorial to go along!!

I am so happy to hear that this chevron pattern was easy for you to understand. I tried to go slow and make it easy to follow along as I know chevrons can be tricky. I just made another chevron blanket (Fall Throw Blanket) that I think you will enjoy as well. That's an even easier ripple blanket! Enjoy and thanks for your support :) :)

My advice. I used markers at every 12 stitches. I used the same color markers. On the last section, I use a different color marker. So I know where I am when I am working along. I also used a different color for the marker on the last plus 3. So i where to start the rows. I know it seems like alot to do. But it doesn't take long. And if there is a mis-count, I can count the sections. Instead of hundreds of stitches.

This is so beautiful. I am making this blanket. It’s my first blanket. All cream. After many rows I went back and watch the tutorial again and I hadn’t been putting the two double crochets at the end of the row so my was wavy so I removed some rows. Is that why it was wider and wavy ? I’m an advanced beginner.
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, chevrons can be tricky at first. It’s super important to make sure your stitches are in the proper places, otherwise your blanket will come out wavy. It’s possible you were adding extra stitches or maybe your tension was lose in some spots and tighter in others. This will even out over time. Keep at it! 😊

Amanda, I love your tutorials , but have a wish. When I watch all the tutorials on chevron or ripple , i would love for some one to mention how much space the chevrons take. If I measure my chain , I definitely can’t say that’s how wide my blanket will be. Hopefully you understand my meager explanation.
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets Жыл бұрын
I understand what you’re saying. When making chevrons, your initial chain will look a little smaller as you have to remember the peaks and valleys of the chevron stitch. It’s best to make a chain a little longer than normal to get the width you like. For this particular blanket, each chevron measured from one peak to the next is 4 inches wide. Hope that helps!

I started this a few days ago and I am making it in the colors of the rainbow! I started with red and am now continuing with orange, then I think I will do yellow-green-blue-violet-blue-green-yellow-orange-red and then do a white border all around it. I bought a pretty thin yarn and I am working with a 3.5 hook, so this is going to take a while :D One row is exactly 1cm tall and I accidentally made this 110cm wide, so I need to do a lot of rows since I want it to be longer than it is wide

Such a great tutorial! I’ve finished crocheting my baby blanket (which is my first finished project!). What do you do with the little strands of yarn left on the sides after adding in a new color? I hope this question makes sense. This is all I have left to finish off my project

@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 21 күн бұрын
To help keep your ends straight, you should use a stitch marker in the very first stitch (chain 3) and the very last stitch (dc). You should have 3 dcs in between your increase and decrease sections. However if your ends aren’t straight, it’s possible you’re adding stitches to the end of your blanket.

Thank you so much, it looks like a great pattern! I’m only on row 4 or so right now, but I have a pretty important question: if we’re increasing each row, won’t it be shaped like a cone in the end? At first, I only had 4 stitches from end to the first 2x dc into one st, but on row 4 I’ve got 8 stitches between the end and the first 2xdc. Help!
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 6 ай бұрын
It seems like you’re increasing too many stitches. For each row you will be working the two decrease stitches on top of the decreases from the previous row. The same thing with the increases. They should stack on top of one another. You should only have 3 stitches in between your increases and decreases.

Does ut make a difference on the turns if you chain 3 and turn OR turn and then chain 3? I fo bd it hard to see where my last stitch of the row is supposed to be and sometimes end up doing it I the chain 🙁
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 3 ай бұрын
I don’t think it matters. I’ve seen it done both ways. I like to chain before I turn my work. You can put stitch markers in the very first and very last stitch of each row to help keep your ends straight and know where to insert your hook.

I’m sorry you’re not understanding the stitch. The best advice I can give is keep trying as chevrons can be difficult for many crocheters as there are many ways to make them. Another suggestion is to count your stitches so you don’t miss anything. Good luck!

@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 5 ай бұрын
You’re welcome! So to change the sizing of the chain, you need to work in multiples of 12, so 12,24,36, etc. Once you have the length you want, add 3 chains to the very end to keep everything in balance. Hope that helps!

I have finished the first six rows and notice the blanket so far does not lay quite flat. It has a slight ripple. Do you think this could be from the starting chain stitches being somewhat tighter than the following rows? Or something else? This is such a good tutorial - thank you!
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets Жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s possible that your tension is a little tighter. For the starting chain, you can always go up a hook size to make it a little more loose. Hopefully that does the trick 😉

@AmandaCrochets

To finish the blanket, you will weave in your ends with a tapestry needle. I usually go back and forth a few times to really secure it. Then I cut off the the yarn and you’re good to go.

My first row was perfect then did 3ch turned dc in first one with ch. then dc in next 3, dc2tog 4 together, dc in next 3, 2x dc in next 2, dc in next 3 all the way to the end. But after my last dc2tog I’ve only got 2 stitches left to go into not 4. No idea when I’ve gone wrong Where you say the first increase should be in the 2nd part of the first one below mine was that all the way along so can’t make sense of it
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 3 жыл бұрын
For chevrons, basically you will mimic whatever you did in the first row. It's possible you missed a stitch in between somewhere on your second row. When you're doing your increase stitches, the increases should be in the two inner double crochets of the increase from the previous row. I hope that makes sense! Chevrons can be very tricky, so just be patient and remember to count those stitches.

At the end of every row should I end with 3 dc in the 3 stitches and then the 2 dc in the last stitch of each row and then turn? If I don't have that I have screwed something up?
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 3 жыл бұрын
At the end of each row, you will have 4 stitches left (after your decrease stitch). You will work 1dc in each of the 3 stitches and work 2dcs in the final stitch. Then you will chain 3 (counts as a dc) and will make 1dc in the very first stitch of the row. Hope that helps!

That sounds great! The pattern repeat is 12+3. This means you will multiple any number by 12 to get your width. Once satisfied, you will add 3 chains to the very end to keep things in balance. As long as you follow this, you can use any weight yarn you'd like!
