Thank you for featuring Sunrise Restaurant. That was my parents and aunt's favorite restaurant. Their food is equivalent to what you would find in Okinawa. Goya champuru typically has a bunch of katsuobushi that I think cuts down on the bitterness of the dish. Everything Sunrise makes is good.

Yay! So glad you went to Sunrise! We love this place, the owners, the food…. The bitter melon with egg and pork is the bomb! Gotta get the Okinawan soba, shoyu pork…. The owners are so nice, too! Only problem is the small size and lack if parking…. But you know the food is good when people from Okinawa and Japan travel to eat here…. When they are able to have in person dining, the place has so much character inside…. EVERYTHING there is so good…

@@AmandaFelixEats another fun thing about the restaurant, aunty and uncle also sing and play traditional instruments from time to time. There were a few times we have been and they had celebrity musicians/artists visiting from Japan/Okinawa eating there. They did impromptu mini concerts at the restaurant. If you get the chance to eat there in person in the future, you get craZy good food and sometimes entertainment…. At the very least, aunty and uncle are awesome hosts for dining in.. real family style dining there.

Felix's guess is spot on...chanpuru means mix, like mazeru in Japanese. While on a trip to Okinawa, I ate it for breakfast in the hotel almost every day and occasionally make it at home, too! The one you got looks legit! Amanda: The lady in one restaurant in Okinawa said that to make the goya less bitter, slice it up and soak it in water overnight.

Felix, the Vietnamese dish is stuffed bitter melon soup. The bitter melon is stuffed with ground pork, wood ear mushroom and cellophane noodle. Filipinos have a similar stir fry bitter melon dish as the Okinawan goya champuru. It is bitter melon stir fried with eggs, tomatoes, onion, garlic and fish sauce, very easy to make. Chinese (Cantonese) style is usually stir fried in black bean sauce with meat like pork spareribs, beef, chicken or shrimp over rice or noodles. You should try Chinese style if it's on the menu. I know you'll love it.

love pig feet! dont get it much here in SoCal. Personally, I usually have to settle for ham bone... not as much collagen/gelatin... no feet makes my bean soup not as good. Also, on a Marshmallow that big, I would have microwaved it for a couple seconds (just a few at most) before torching it... would have softened the insides a little... although it might have also slid down the stick if too much. Everything looked super ONO tho! wish we had good Hawaiian-y stuff in LA suburbs/San Fernando Valley (SFV- 818 in the hous)... LA has good almost everything, but it's BIG AF... gotta drive hours in traffic to authentic stuff... Well, maybe not tacos or Latin food... they all over SFV... and sometimes come to you.

i always thought you were suppose to mix the wasabi with the shoyu, you know, like they do with mustard and shoyu with dimsum. since the mustard and wasabi are essentially the same thing.

Look for the smoothest bitter melon, slice up than soak in salted water before cooking.

Pigs Feet is a Gelatinous Ambrosia. Bitter Melon is NOT. The Spam and Eggs was the chaser. Your videos are just fun. Thank You. I'm full!
