It's really interesting to see how many conservative women contradict their own values. During the ERA campaigns in 1970s the main oppositionist was Phyllis Schlafly who spoke against women having equal rights in favor of protecting the tradtitional role of women in society. She promoted the ideal of a houswife, no job, taking care of children... and to do that promoting, she traveled around the country, organized rallies, met up with government officials, wrote books and held podcasts-doing literally everything BUT living according to traditional conservative values

The Republican Party of today targets the working class, rural voters, anti-war, pro-gun, and free speech. It's a wide departure from Bush era Republicans.

The irony of that specific look, is that between being familiar with the personality that wears it, and just the chosen look itself and sort of a modern application of an outdated beauty standard... I think they tend to look more severe and imposing and *obnoxious*, like their tone of voice and what they will say arrives in the room first, before they even speak. While a lot of democratic women excuse a softer gentler natural vibe with both makeup and their demeanor, as well as the beauty standards they emulate. Like they are just being normal people, while republican women tend to try to attain a queenly look and... well kinda look as ridiculous as some of the queens most notable trends of the past.

It reminds me of Handmaid's Tale, where (at least in the book, I haven't seen the TV show) Serena Joy is described as a woman wearing a ton of makeup who simultaneously champions for a political movement that eventually makes makeup illegal. Yeah when she talked about Ronald Reagan not wanting to provide universal child care, because it would break up the nuclear family, well guess what people aren't having children because you can't afford them. So if not strictly fundamentalist, it is certainly close.

I think Marjorie is so anti-trans acceptance because she knows a lot of people will take one look at her and assume she's trans, and even if they couldn't care less if she is or isn't, the very idea that she could be assumed AMAB terrifies her. The only way she thinks she can prevent this is to make trans people not a thing, so that she can just keep not cut her hair, wear makeup and a skirt, and always be assumed AFAB. Hilariously though, all she's done is give transvestigators the perfect opportunity to treat even mildly masculine women like men in sheep's clothing. I think the look looks like that because they don’t have any actual aesthetic values outside of what they believe is politically acceptable. In their eyes blonde hair is good regardless, so if it looks fried brassy and awful it doesn’t matter it still checks that box. Same reason why they plaster the flag over everything to a point that it looks tacky. Flag=good, nothing is actually judged on its own aesthetic merit. Everything is simply a marker of whether you’re a part of their in group or not, so for example MTG having super fried blonde hair, visible makeup, and looking boxy is just blonde ✅ wearing makeup ✅ fit ✅ at least that’s how I think they see it. I also don’t say that to body shame her but it’s a pretty strong example when you compare her to Jasmine Crockett who is just objectively beautiful 🤷‍♀️ I think it’s fine for women to not look good because they don’t want to put in effort to their appearance when it has no bearing on their job, but there’s just more to the story in the case of MTG/conservative women who insult the appearances of others.
