I also have an antique cast iron waffle maker which I use at home and camping. Love it! I also like Klondike. For even extra fiber I soak old fashioned rolled oats for an hour or so in water, drain then add to batter. I use about 1/2 cup to 2 cups mix. Delicious!

Looks delicious!! I tried a couple times with my cast iron waffle maker but haven't gotten it down yet. Thank you for not cutting out your first attempt with it sticking. So many people edit out parts like that and I so appreciate you showing that to us. It's real! Also live waffles the bird 😂

Love your videos. I went out and bought same waffle iron. Little tip,,, buy a cheap Laser infrared Temperature gun. they are good to have, esp for out door cooking. you want the temp of the iron to be 450. ish. it can be too hot as well. it eliminates the guess work. its a great tool to have. you don't need a expensive one.

Incredible Griswold find. I was fortunate enough to find a perfect 1950's 9 in Wagner for $12 last year. Your Griswold waffle iron is gold at any price.

I have 2 of these waffle irons and they've been sitting on my stove for the past year because I made a waffle and it ended up like your first one and I never tried again lol... I guess that's why your video popped up on my youtube feed... They know! Now I have to try again!

Thank you. Someone may have already said this, but, you may want to flip it over when you put the shortening in and definitely when you put the batter in. I think those were used on a wood Cook stove by taking an eye out and placing the waffle iron over the opening. You were on the right track with the camp fire, Nick messed you up. I enjoyed your video. Thanks

Nice to see you enjoying using the vintage cast iron. I have a 1908 #7 Griswold. I like the #7, as many of my recipes make a 7" waffle. They are works of art! ~ Diane

I collect Griswolds too, griswold went out of business in 1951 so even if that was the last skillet they ever made it’s at least 70years old

You just needed to cure the pan a little more before you used it. I had the same issue in mine. Lots of butter will help but make sure you put it in both sides but the cast iron does a great job on waffles. Cast iron is awesome.

It's so awesome! We made another waffle after I was done filming and it turned out even better! I definitely can't wait to make them again.

Hi there, thanks for doing all these ideas. I'm new to car camping, and your videos are helpful. I just watched you make waffle batter. It may have been thin because you used liquid measure for both wet and dry measurements. Or dry measure for both..couldn't tell if that was a wet or d Dr y measuring cup. I hope That helped. Again thank you for your hard work and dedication. LW

I had It Rolling! Oh and a box and a half !!! Ok 2 and Half boxes of mix . But who's counting 😬 I got this Girlfriend 👍 🥰😁❤

Hello Amanda, I like that waffle maker. I think that if you coat both sides of the waffle maker with a generous amount of cooking oil and a thin batter, that will work out really well. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.

I have a Lehman's waffle iron, I've tried to work it four times, and four times, got the same split waffle result. I found running a chopstick between the iron squares helps loosen the failed waffle. I hate my waffle iron with a passion usually saved for brutal dictators
@sixgunsymphony740810 ай бұрын
You need to get a proper seasoned finish to your cast iron.
@tannaeros10 ай бұрын
@@sixgunsymphony7408 Thank you. I Finally got it to work. I just left the two halves in the oven the entire week, no matter what was baked, those two little bawstads were in there with it. I'd oil them occasionally but took on the "you put me through hell, now I shall do the same to you." They got no reprieve until yesterday, when I finally was able to whip up a batch of waffley cornbread.
