I've crunched all the numbers for you guys so I could give you a proper 2021 Antique Booth Business Breakdown & my Sales Goals for 2022. I'm going to show you how much money I made reselling vintage this year. I was shocked by how low the percentage of sales was furniture and boy... Did a spend a ton on inventory... I went through my sales sheets with a fine tooth comb to bring you percentages and averages of my antique and vintage sales. I know some of you out there will appreciate all the math that I mathed. How much does an antique booth make? I'll show you. Looking forward to an even more profitable Antique & Vintage booth in 2022!

I used to have a booth of my own. Some months I only broke even. But I loved it. I did it as a hobby. Not an income stream. And i plan to do it again in the future. I know of very few other hobbies that pay for themselves. As such, i consider it profitable. ❤

Dear Amanda, I am a 65 year old victorian, Montessori Teacher....and late at night before I go to sleep, I watch your videos. My successful private Montessori school of decades will be coming to an end. The classroom is filled with children's antiques and your videos have helped me to know how to open my own antique shop on my 20-acre property along a state highway. If one is to be successful...one is to commit to hard work. Keep up the calling. You are one of a kind.

Thank you! Don’t worry, your numbers were not confusing at all. You crammed a lot into a short video and you were very clear and succinct. My take away from the video is that it seems like a ton of work for such a small profit. It seems people do this simply because they enjoy the business, which you obviously do or you wouldn’t be doing it. Good luck in 2022 and I hope you reach your goals!

Very helpful to see the actual cost of running a booth. I’ve had several booths over the years and this is why I always give up on them. Not enough profit for the work involved. I stick to online sales now. For bigger items I occasionally sell on Facebook but honestly it’s mostly smalls that I sell. Time gets precious the older you get and I’d rather make 5 times that for 1/3 of the time investment. That being said I also know a booth fills a creative itch and I do miss that part of it. I did vintage shows and that gave me the chance to use my creativity but profits were much better as you would sometimes get 10,000 people at a three day show. Anyway it is definitely a labor of love and you obviously have a great love for it. Your items and staging are some of the best I’ve seen.

Great comment. My experience exactly! Currently in a booth now and we'll see how long it lasts. I see some of the same dealers in the same booths over the long haul and I just don't see how it is worth it.

Just love your videos! I've been stuck at home for five years caretaking my parents. After grieving for a year. I'm ready to begin. My goal is to repair my building in town and open a little store there. Your style is what I wish to emulate. I already sell on shopify, etsy and Facebook, but not much, so I'd like to develop all of that too! Thank you so much for the valuable information! You're going to do very well! Way to go! 👏👏👏

Hi, just started watching your videos today, this one caught my attention. I also buy and resell, and I came up with a formula that worls for me: 1. Only buy things I would be willing to keep if they don't sell for asked price (I can sell them later) 2. Keep costs of goods low/free. 3. Price items at 5 times what I paid... so I can make 400% profit. Sometimes I sell higher, sometimes lower, it depends on cogs. I work full time, and this is a side business I am doing, but I was surprised at how much money came in last year, after only doing it in my free time, gives me faith that I could do it full time. I don't have a booth, only sell furniture from my house, and smaller items through facebook with shipping. I spent about $11,000 for items last year, but sold them for about $59,000. I noticed social media helps tremendously, instagram, adding videos, reels of projects, announcing drops, etc. I subscribed, love your style. Your information on selling at antique booths very helpful. My goal this year is to do better than last year, and keep cogs low. I will keep watching!

@@Sofia-vn1vn I have an excel sheet with my costs of goods, revenue, and profit. Gifts are a cost of good of $0, and revenue is all profit. Private ownership things, I remember or look up how much I spend on it, and that is my cost of goods.

@@Sofia-vn1vn cash purchases in person without a receipt? I just write that in my excel spreadsheet next to item description. I want to be able to see how much I spent on something, and what the profit is overall. I also write down cash payments. I don't ever want to be audited, and I am trying to be as transparent as possible. Also a good tip the accountant said was to scan all receipts because the ink dissolves over time and becomes harder to read, which I try to do now.

Hi Amanda! Liz here, from the UK. I only found your channel a couple of months ago, but am seriously impressed by your energy and enthusiasm for antiques. I am so glad that you caught up on some sleep ..... 3 am in the morning!!!! You are a talented and natural communicator - honest, knowledgable, realistic and entertaining and your tutorials are easy to follow, achievable and inspiring to others. I am just beginning my journey as a vintage and antique seller (would love a booth) and also need to tackle bookkeeping on the computer - I know it will make things easier in the long run, but will definitely 'slow me down', to start with! I predict your channel will grow enormously during 2022 and it may then be worth you considering, if that might also provide another customer base for your business. Clearly your heart enjoys your booth and Antique show the most, but maybe consider an advertised, once a month online sale via your website, (which would organise the packing and posting), as some other Resellers do? With all of the current anxieties, I have so enjoyed your videos and look forward to following your journey! Wishing you lots of fun in 2022!

This info is gold to me. I opened my first ever booth last month(in east Mississippi), open for business with priced and staged items 12/24. Today is 1/10 and my total sales is $1140. I was hoping that was above average and hearing your numbers I believe it is, since we live in a government-labeled “targeted depressed” aka poverty-rich area. With all of the KZbin channels I follow for antique boothing I had expected to be in the red, and I am considering my start-up costs of lumber, electricity supplies(I ran outlets throughout my 10x20 space), rent and the cost of items to fill up my booth. So thank you for breaking it all down for me. You also have made me realize that I need a better way to track profit/loss. I’m so glad I found your channel. You have become a great source of information for this novice seller.

I just bought an 1800s secretary from the big Williamsburg Antique mall that was priced at $650 but I lucked out and walked in on their 25th anniversary celebration and got 30% off for a total of $455…great deal for a solid walnut with beautiful inlaid designs, four drawers and a built in bookcase (or display case) with glass shelves and pane window French doors on it with a key hole! Wahoooo! You never know when a good deal will pop up, even in a place where people think prices are too high 😉

Hi, love your videos. I once had antique booths about 10 years ago, I got the best deals for resale at garage sales and estate sales. I now have an actual store, and have moved into clothing and jewelry. As you said you have noticed since Nov. , clothing sells easier and is easier to manage. I still carry some small vintage looking items from creative co-op and other companies. However, apparel is still the top seller. I would just suggest hitting good garage sales on Saturday mornings for the most profit turnover and also adding maybe more jewelry (even some wood beads) that would fit better in your look. Also, try to sell items online maybe through instagram- I personally liked one of your items, and tried to buy it online. Good luck! You have the drive, so you will keep growing!

Very informative! Unless you have a shop, do shows, etc., no one can believe how much work it is. But, dang, it’s SO ADDICTIVE! It truly is tied to the "hunt." It’s so exciting. I do one show a year, but have had two small shops. This year I’m hoping to add another show. A huge consideration in shows is, not only the expense of the show, but travel, rooms, food, etc. Like others, I’m always interested in the regional costs of items. It’s amazing how they can vary. It’s also interesting what is fashionable in different states. Anyway, I enjoy your channel and your transparency. Have fun!

Makes the booth seem even more friendly and welcoming with so many plant lovers presently. Love that you look for art work as well. Can’t wait to see your 2022 finds. Enjoying the channel.

My goal is to get a larger booth!! I can’t even get my furniture items in my current booth. It’s only 4ft wide x 2 feet deep. I know, it’s really difficult because I would love to get a 20 x 30 or larger because I have a lot of items read to sell. Facebook is ok but it drives me crazy to wait around for someone to show up 45 minutes late. Or 2 hours early. Or they want me to deliver when I always add to the description that I do not deliver. There is a new Antique Mall about 20 minutes from where I live but they want $565.00 each month for a 20 x 25 booth size + 10% and credit card fees. If I stay on the waiting list where I have my booth currently. It’s only $120.00 a month for a 20 x 30 + credit card fees. And it’s only 10 minutes away from my house. These are actually my goals for 2023. LARGER BOOTH. THAT WOULD MAKE ME SO HAPPY 😁

Goal for this year is to open up a small shop on our property! Not sure how to run a store, but we’re working on finishing up the walls and electricity then I can start loading in the inventory!!! Your videos have been so helpful as what I’m planning on doing is equivalent to what you do, except It won’t be at a mall location. I expect it to be a struggle at first for sure especially learning how to market and run a business, but I am SO excited!!!

Thanks for sharing your numbers! I have sold both online, at booths and at shows. I feel like I make the most money at shows. And being that I too have a very busy “day job” I think of it right now as a fun hobby that makes me a little money (most people’s hobbies cost them money), allows me to be creative and share fun finds with others. But it really is about the thrill of the hunt and helping beautiful items with history find new homes. I didn’t want to do shows or have a booth during the Pandemic but now I’m ready to dive back in. My ultimate goal is to own a Flea Market of my own. That is going to be my retirement job. Wishing you a wonderful 2022! Keep the great videos coming! And with your article in the magazine and your KZbin Channel, I see a lot more good things and financial reward headed your way!

The vintage and antique business is very laborious, you have to love doing it, is what I've learned. Currently have an online presence for hard goods and collectibles and a vintage clothing rack in a brick and mortar(vintage clothing can be very profitable) . My goals for this year are to: Build my ig account to over 1k follwers, build a website and hopefully be renting a booth in an antique mall by years end. I submitted an application at the end of last month, but have not heard back from them. Also, it's very competitive in Los Angeles with Vintage and antiques to get a space and lets not mention, very spendy. But staying positive and goal oriented. Thank you so much for your transparency, Amanda. It means a ton!

You got this Jennie! You are 100% right, you gotta love doing this because this business will make you work DOUBLE to earn every penny. I have full faith that you can get that ig account to over 1k in followers & I hope they call you back about that space soon! Thank you for all your kind words too!

@@amandasmercantile Amanda!! thank you so much for such the encouraging words means a ton! . Im constantly second guessing myself with the items I source and why I'm even doing this, but I absolutely love it. And you are most welcome. You are one of the realest peeps on this platform, and I am confident that your channel will continue to grow by leaps and bounds, and that will hopefully bring you some more income too! I saw a booth at the mall im considering and it totally reminded me of yours. I was like, this vendor has to be watching Amanda! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

Amanda, the alternative is punching the clock for someone else! It always takes a while to grow a business. I know, i had one, it put my children through college! Stick with it, you are over the beginning trials and errors! Love watching you! 😊

Thanks Elaine! Technically I still do "punch a clock" for all of my real estate clients. Until then, as this hobby grows, maybe one day into something more, I'll take what I can get as far as profits go. Encouraging to see your "stick with it" comment. Thank you!

I agree smalls make a big difference. As you mentioned, every antique mall is different. What sells in one place might not sell in another. I finally found a few new gift type items that sell really well. So I mix them in with the vintage items. They almost pay my rent and then other sales are profit. My goal this year is to go to more estate sales for inventory, I want to try my hand a furniture flipping as well. You are awesome by the way. :=)

Hi Amanda, thank you so much for sharing this. I just opened my own booth in September and that is when I discovered you. Your comment on smalls was eye opening since I thought I would need to invest in furniture to really make good sales. Right now my booth is not big enough, nor do I have a vehicle or support from others to be hauling stuff around like that. But…It’s going pretty good so far for me and like others have said, I’m doing this for more than just a profit. My goal in 2022 is to build my social media following and really develop a brand/look for my booth. You’re hustle is really inspirational and I appreciate that you provide this content, you’re a natural so I hope to see much more of you in this year! Best of luck to you in your goals!

I would love to get just half of what you made in 2021 profits for 2022. This was my first year with an antique booth and sometimes my sales didn't make rent. I want to stick with it though and definitely have other forms of income that cover those losses.

I hope sales improve for you in 2022 Amanda. I struggled my 1st, 3rd & 4th year owning an antique booth. I think most dealers do in the beginning so you are not alone. You learn & grow your customer base over time & will fine tune your business. I'm glad your stick with it. You got this!
