The irony of this is that Nick Cage considers this one of his hardest roles to have acted. Because he was told by the director to act as a "Nick Cage" that he felt didn't really exist. He did a AMA on reddit, and it was amazing what insight he brings in acting in general.

I fully agree with you on the adorableness of Pedro Pascal! I first noticed him in 'The Mentalist' a show I watched on/off and wasn't as invested as I am in some other crime shows, because I found the main character pretty insufferable for most of the time. Spoilers ahead: I was really hoping Lisbon would end up getting married to him, he was such a wholesome dude and would have been good for her, but alas, in every show the diehard, emotional stunted asshole has to have a 'come to Jesus moment' seconds before the person he could have professed his feelings to a gazillion sesasons before boards the plane and then she's like 'yay, cancel the wedding, emotionally stunted asshole decided he can tolerate me after all and now we're gonna have sex together.' Anyway, long story short: Pedro was done dirty and deserved to get the girl!!!

I personally thought the film was really charming and didn't mind the CIA elements, even though I felt that it did take away from the friendship between Javi and Nick at the end. My main issue was the introduction of a love interest for Javi and the implied rekindling of the relationship between Nick and his ex, both of which felt shoe horned in as a massive 'no homo though'. I think that the relationship between Nick and Javi, and Nick and his daughter should have been the main focus with the CIA elements only serving to push along the plot in the background. I personally think Nick's ex was an unnecessary character (other than to disguise him with makeup) that could have been fixed with ageing the daughter up to 18, and Gabriela was also a very forgetful character too. Otherwise, I had a good time watching it!
