this man is an absolute inspiration to me. after watching free solo, i feel like i have no right to succumb to fear in any regard. if alex can mentally overcome fear at such an extreme level, it just shows me that anything is possible and no challenge or fear is too great. what a life changing feeling to have. much love to you alex. thank you for being you.

Well said. His accomplishments put everything into perspective. If you're afraid or scared to do something, just think of Alex and geez, maybe what we're afraid is not such a big deal.

"You're gonna lose the girl!" lol That's awesome. 🤣 I love that he's always so aware of his seeming insensitivity to his girlfriend in those moments, or that he at least sees it that way, looking back. Most people don't get an opportunity to see how they're acting, how they're treating someone from an outside perspective like a fly on the wall. And, the fact that he takes the perfect lessons from watching himself from that unique perspective and can so honestly assess his behavior is yet another thing that makes him so overwhelmingly endearing. He's answered that question, or one variation or another, in almost every interview I've seen the same way. Doubtless she's seen it, too. And I bet that self-reflection being so apparent goes a LONG way towards building trust and a sturdy foundation in their relationship. It's probably one of the primary reasons they're still together to this day, going strong. Which is cool because she's a wonderful girl, and they're great together. 👍

Yeah I feel like that's why so many reality tv relationships don't make it... The see their relationships through others eyes and it's not all pretty... They can't handle it...

I totally relate to his simple, blunt and logical way of talking. But I can’t relate at all to the climbing thing. Couldn’t do 10 feet of that slab. I feel like for the rest of my life every once in awhile I’ll random think “I still can’t believe Alex Honnold actually did that!”

She was already a keeper when she chose to be with him even though he lives in a van, possibly down by the river. Seems a simple thing, but that is a very special thing.

Alex's answer about giving up soloing to Sanni did not change over time. He did solo again and Sanni was right there. So finally she just accepted that climbing and solo is important for him

It's scary, no matter how much you predict the moves. You cannot predict what your body can handle. I am not a climber, but imagine if his finger broke or he cramped during the climb. That's some ballsy shit that he did.

It's a bit like the Apollo astronauts, isn't it. Having walked on the moon, Neil, Buzz and Mike were condemned to answer the same naive questions day in day out for decades. Alex (and to a lesser extent Chai and Jimmy) is in the same bind, known and celebrated for a spectacular achievement which he must endlessly re-visit at the whim of journalists. Nevertheless, he comes up with new insights here, the way his preparations involve all the senses, all the faculties. It's not just about motor skills and muscle memory, it's about intellectual effort. The musician goes through the same process, analysing the music in order to internalise the structure . . .

@@Jj-gi2uv I really enjoy them both and admire their relationship so when I heard her speak about him as her work partner, or whatever she said exactly, it threw me off. Their private life is none of my business but if they are on their way out I would be very bummed.

@@robgrant7683 Thank you. How she spoke of him made it sound like they were still business partners but not husband and wife. I enjoy them as a couple and gives me hope you can pursue your dreams and still have a healthy marriage. I've pretty much gave up on that being possible.

Chris Woolford yeah it’s weird. I’ve seen her in multiple interviews describe him as her directing partner and not always mentioning they’re married. So I can understand the confusion. Fortunately they seem quite happy and now Alex and Sanni are engaged too!
