This is such a calm, lovely conversation - they both have soft voices and speak at a deliberate, unhurried pace - just from the auditory aspect, they could make great ASMR, except nobody would fall asleep because the stories they're telling are completely riveting!

Meru is the best mountaineering movie of all time, second to none

I haven't seen it, but Everest strikes me as the film of films: it is a great true-life drama, it has genuine footage (from the IMAX team of the same year), it has a fabulous soundtrack, and despite what Ed Viesturs or Krakauer or anyone else might imply, there were people on the mountain at the time during the crisis that advised on the film for accuracy. Everest, totally gripping whether you care about climbing or not (sailing's my thing: Donald Crowhurst and Deep Water, eh?) has my vote!

@@amandajstar Everest was a well made film, but it doesn't celebrate climbing and mountaineering the way Meru does. Everest is ultimately a tail of a disaster that came about from human error and unpredictable weather. Meru is a far better film.
@amandajstar
@amandajstar 5 жыл бұрын
@@Chasstful Charles, I agree with your first point, but I disagree with your conclusion: because Everest showed humans the way (some of them) are, and the confusion at the root of their motivation, Everest is a human drama for the ages, and far more valuable as such.
@Chasstful
@Chasstful 5 жыл бұрын
@@amandajstar Well agree to disagree. I was inspired by Meru, while I was disgusted by some of the real life characters in Everest. People like Beck Weathers and Sandy Hill Pittman were over-privileged people who had no business on the mountain and played a part in the death real mountaineers and Sherpas. Btw, there are better documentaries about Mt Everest.

This was by far the best documentary I have seen in a long time on climbing/friendship/patience. The need they all have to accomplish this climb - must be born with it. Go for the dream.....and thanks for letting us look thru the lens.

I get that feeling too. Iv been serching for answers so much in my life and i feel like having a mentor/ older brother/sister who i look upto to help find the illusive answers would help me fight the urge to quit the fight. Life's just too hard iv been struggling for my whole life but the past 5 years have been the worst by far. Its only because of people like jimmy and alix tommy sanni so on and so on that i keep trying to be happy .im fascinated how these people cope with such difficult things if only i could have 1% of that i feel i could fly so high and actually achieve thats all i want to feel worthwhile wanted and usefull idk sorry to go on just sometimes a comment like yours really gets in my head

I have to call BS on what was said about Alex and the welfare issue. There is a VAST difference between using one's own resources to help the less fortunate (what Alex did) and forcing one's fellow citizens at gunpoint to to help both the deserving and undeserving (what the welfare state does). There is absolutely no contradiction whatsoever about being charitable oneself while also despising the welfare sate.
